Fun fact: if you get in the car with the man as a child, this is the result: "Once you are in the car he turns away from the school and heads for the highway. This man is very sick. You are tortured, killed and buried in a landfill. Your body is never recovered. This game is over.” Not kidding, actually in the game.

i really adore this game so much. i actually played a sleek remaster of it (same content, just updated interface and a few bug fixes) a few years ago without knowing anything about it and it really has stuck with me to this day. there is something incredibly novel about it that games today still haven't been able to fully replicate. it's such an experience, i'm so glad jerma got a chance to play it!!

@@frogfrog666 After AlterEgo i found out about choicescript games. Some very good. There is a company that makes them called "Choice Of Games". Too much fantasy though. Some of the games I liked Parenting Simulator (Reminded me of AlterEgo, it's very similar but instead of growing up, your character is already an adult and you raise a kid) Sixth Grade Detective (Really Funny, you are... a sixth grade detective. You investigate stuff like missing bikes and school rumors. It's a really cute game) Choice of Robots /This one is a lot more convoluted. The first two are casual "life" simulators like AlterEgo. This one is a sci-fi where you create robots, but, theres something magical about it too. I was very touched by the ending I got.

Also, playing through it myself, I honestly teared up at the ending (natural death). Mostly because I tried to live a good life as if I was the ideal version of myself. Lucked out with a wife who was both very attractive, very trustworthy, and very happy (other stats were moderate). I hope my grandparents got the same feeling my character got at the end. Also there was an episode in childhood that I'm sad most people don't experience because it's put near the end of the episode tree (so if you go in order you'll never see it). It's the tile below the single vocational tile (man with suitcase icon) if you're interested. It's about a cranky old lady cooped up in her home that everyone is scared to see, but one day the light in her room goes off and all your friends assume she's dead. You can choose to ignore it or go see what's up (you're given like 3 chances to back out including peer pressure) but if you keep pressing forward, you can tell the old woman that you were worried about her. She tells you that the light in her room is off because she's too old to fix it and has nobody to help her. If you help her, the old lady gives you cookies and tells you that you remind her of her son. Her husband and child died in a horrible accident involving a train years ago (the game gives full detail). Now she's been all alone ever since. Final choice is to thank her and go home or ask to keep helping her on the weekends in exchange for pay. If you pick the second one, she offers to pay you with more treats and she's happier than ever. The game informs you that you've given her a reason to live. Also welled up a little at this part.

2:52:00 for anyone interested; I played this game as a child. I picked the choice to keep asking him what was wrong, and the result still kind of infuriates me to this day. Your childhood friend comes out to you as gay, and of course I chose to tell him that I accept him. The next prompt says something like "you promise to still be friends with him, and you hang out sporadically after this, but eventually this puts a strain on your friendship and you drift apart." as a dysphoric child who didn't know she was struggling with gender identity, I was even pissed off on behalf of my own character,
@gianni50725

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that **only** happens if you decide to take on the responsibility of their problems all on yourself instead of recommending they speak to a professional regarding their depression. It's a fairly realistic result to be honest although I think it should have a differing outcome depending on how thoughtful/gentle your character is.

@@kinnikuboneman it does tho. I have made three comments about it already but that alcoholic Mark bit was bullshit. "Professional help" should have lead to "then you need to contact the police and a lawyer" ("professional help" includes police, lawyers, and individual therapists, not just marriage counselors) or at LEAST let you redirect to "divorce him" when you learned they had already tried counseling. Ending it like it did made it feel like a "wrong" choice, when you shouldn't be telling her to just divorce her husband when you don't know the extent if the situation (and ultimately shouldn't be telling her to divorce a violent man without going to SOMEONE to help formulate a backup plan for her safety) and CERTAINLY should not be trying to talk sense to the drunkard
