Still that doesn't mean you should be complacent and doubt your abilities. Know your limits but that doesn't mean you shouldn't push them. I get where Jerm is coming from where having that kind of mindset can be destructive when we don't achieve what we want but invest your best in what you want to achieve and expect failure.
@hengedraws2 жыл бұрын
My therapist told me once that “if you don’t even give yourself permission to fail then you make it way harder to succeed” Basically saying that just trying is enough, you’ll surprise yourself, and even if you don’t do as good as you hopes, that’s okay, it likely isn’t the end of the world It’s good to try your best but if you don’t have the energy to, don’t beat yourself up over it
@mikemeier18172 жыл бұрын
You should absolutely pursue your dreams, whatever they might be, but the actual pursuit and outcome is always going to be different. In Jerma's case, he wanted to be a famous actor/director, so you can reasonably assume that he wanted to be the best in his field. That whole path is just as much luck as it is talent, and there is almost endless rejection. So if your dream is to be at the top of something, you have to ask yourself along the way how much of yourself you want to sacrifice just to get the top, and it helps to establish your limits early.

He was talking to himself, but, actually, I think I live in the fucking Twilight Zone during Jerma streams and it's similar to this. Jerma's chat mostly has a, like, 3-5 second delay, which is what you'd expect on Twitch. But I swear, I fucking don't. It's the weirdest thing. It seems like the messages he responds to pop up at the exact time he reads them, as if he only ever pays attention to the newest message in chat at any given time. Like, it's such exact timing that it almost feels prerecorded and like the messages are timed to be sent at that exact moment, which I wouldn't notice if there was a delay, but there isn't. It's the most bizarre shit.

I'm more surprised at Jerma's face. Last time I've seen him in such a high quality setting was Dollhouse.

I agree with the dad speech about people living to fast or being driven by expectation to succeed immediately in life. To much of the world has fallen into the trap of seeking there fulfilment by pursuing too much at once. We're forgetting the simple joys of what it means to just be, and by extension, to just be happy. So much overstimulation has left us just wanting and needing more and more as the world grows quicker and quicker around us, and we feel so compelled as a result to chase everything and have it all. A fair reminder to what's really important in your life. All you really need is what you all ready have, your happiness is what you are, not what you receive or manage to accumulate in a lifetime. Think of the overlooked amazing wonder of what it is to be a living, breathing organism, capable of everything you can do, and being able to recognize that, and the fact that all you see and experience in this vast, possibly endless universe, exists despite the circumstances or odds of it. Living and being alive in itself is miraculous and wonderful, yet so easy to overlook and forget about at times.

meditation and such practices (for example, administering a substance that may or may not infer a psychedelic experience that one could, theoretically, garner extremely useful life lessons from!) are a shortcut to this understanding. i don't know how jerma has gotten to this point - i know a lotta people around his age, still stuck trying to advance in a world that they don't understand, by doing things they don't understand and constantly trying to find meaning in things that they just don't understand. jerma somehow still has a magical outlook on life - reminiscent of a child, yes, but also incredibly useful in this day and age - he can see amazing things that a lot of other people are too ignorant to see. i feel for a lot of the younger generation (even if i am one of them!) - as soon as they leave school, it's immediately: work, college, money, family, house, children, legacy, die. so many people pressured into believing if they aren't constantly "succeeding" and progressing at all times, they're "losing". and nobody wants to "lose" their life. i'm glad, however, that at least a few members of my generation and others, have a role model like jerma to look up to. (even if they get a bit snug calling him daddy all the time!)
