No idea why more people don’t do this. I help people with Malenia and frequently see hosts taken out with her rot aoe. When that happens, caution goes to the wind and I run in to wail on her until either I die or get sent back to my world. The amount of damage two well equipped players can do when they decide to go all out with no regard for survival is impressive.

The fact that Malenia heals is a cheap way to make the boss harder, and it's proof especially since she can heal ON BLOCK aswell like bitch, if you can heal without hitting me then ima bust out the mimic and wreck yo ass, and before you say "oh but with summons you haven't beaten the boss" i'll have you know that i've beaten her alone the first time after 4 times, the first 3 were with my own playstyle (heavy strenght weapons so yuck vs this boss) and the forth one i used the "no bullshit" naked setup and poked her to death with an estoc and dodged every attack so she wouldn't heal, i legit beaten her hitless while naked so no, it's not that the boss "isn't for us" it's that the boss is just dumb and artificially inflated by that stupid healing. Sister Friede and Lady Maria completely shit on this boss when it comes to enjoyment in battle.

You are practically playing a different game... whichever is more fun/rewarding is up to the person though. In my mind, if I needed help, I didn't win. With a greatshield, and at least 40 END, you can block almost all of the damage from waterfowl dance. Some of the damage can get around the shield, just due to how much she moves around, but at least you're still alive. The problem though, is that she heals off of every single hit that you block. One fully blocked waterfowl dance can take her from a sliver of health to almost half. More if you summoned a spirit and they get caught in it too. This is why I think her healing is the hardest thing about this fight. Without it she would just be difficult, instead of absurd.

You can also run around her when she jumps up, or my technique was to roll into her, roll forwards again, then triple roll backwards, I only took about 2 hits, no need to heal. I think her simple triple slash is the worst, she whips it out instantly and can combo with it, totally ruins the flow.

@@Lovelle1 omg a fellow Great Stars enjoyer, I used Great Stars & Rotten Hammer, it's a brutal combo. If you put Cragblade on Great Stars & drink the poise break Physick, you can break her poise in 2 jump attacks. Phase 2 is a different story, she's almost impossible to poise break... I just bait her jump attacks and punish, takes a while, but reliable (interestingly, this is my exact strategy for Sister Friede Phase 3 in DS3).

This fight especially as a mage is horrendous her main weakness is being very easy to stagger out of her attacks and she just loves to stick onto you like glue so getting time to cast any spells is nearly impossible.

Just dodge and Use adulas moonblade whenever she does any attack where she slams her sword into the ground, or the attack where she does that huge thrust from range, you’ll hit her every time. The spells that have a delay like glintblade and glintblade phalanx are good too cause she dodges the cast and not the projectiles, pretty much everything else is useless though

This really only works on NG, but you can spam Stars of Ruin on both phases if you don't stick too close nor too far and clear her pretty easy. Will not go great in NG+ though. Had to beat her the melee way.

It's not easier as melee. If you decide to do this alone she stalls and alot of times refuses to act unless you do. When you go in for a swing she does as well and alot of times it's a trade, trading with her under any circumstance is not prefferable and reduces your damage cause she heals. also you run the risk of windfoul blade at point blank range. IMO it's WAY easier as a mage who can keep range and stay realatively safe from long long distance.

actually this is a lot easier on a mage as you can outrange a lot of her stuff due to never needing to go to melee. magic glintblades and carian phalanx are the best spells if you're soloing as mage tbh

I've beat her 3 times with 3 different builds and mage was by far the easiet (I mean, also the last one I did so I had her moveset down). Given her tendency to wait to counter the moon fucks her up, adulas moonblade deals a lot of damage to her and frostbite can cancel the waterfowl pretty reliably. Plus you are encouraged to be far away from her making dodging that attack much easier. But what makes mage be extremely easier is the fact that you can chunk 50-70% of her healthbar from the second phase in her first attack (use flask of infite mana and use either azur or asteroids). Skipping the majority of the hardest part of the fight makes her not nearly as hard.
