I love how people want us to not talk about the stuff that is ruining an industry. Oh wait, that's why it's dying in the first place.

The only problem I have with modern comics aside from the huge number of variants is that I can't afford to by more than a few due to the distance I have to drive to get to a shop!

yeah if it werent for speccers and flippers the comic book sales would be 50 percent less than they show today...i have a 14 yr old boy and a 9 year old...they refuse to read comics...about the haters you gonna have that in a certain percentage just as you will have the positive percentage and the blah blah blah percentage..its statistical when you have a number of followers...14 k followers equals 2 k haters 2 k lovers and a whole bunch in between...i like this content cause its mostly for the love of course you a human going through human things...anyway what im rambling about pretty much comes down to...ignore the haters

Great video, and I appreciate how it addresses the broader issues within the comic market. It's true that the comic hobby seems to be on a slow decline, but it’s unlikely to disappear entirely for decades. While it will inevitably shrink, it will continue to be a passion for those who truly love it, though growth seems out of the question. By the way, Jerno is a far cry from Sticky Goose. Sticky Goose embodies everything that’s wrong with the hobby. I do not always agree with what you say, but you speak from the heart Jerno. Keep up the good work.

So my 1 cent. I went on a purge where i unfollowed alot of comic content creators. I listened to you and not going to lie took a long time to get on your page until this video. All my locals thrive when it comes to modern so i guess because of that i couldnt agree that its dying but i see where youre coming from. I myself think that content creators are also to blame. Alot of the channels i unfollowed ONLY dealt with specs and graded comics but always dropped videos saying the hobby is dying. Like they never talk modern or promote anything other than books the general public cant afford again thats what I myself see. I havent watched your content for a while and while you dabble in it its not your "personality" you make content that make people think yea i can do this or i cant but here are alternatives. I may not agree with everything you say but i am grateful youre a channel that promotes and makes things realistic. Unlike joe over there who just got his full run of green lantern volume 1 back from cgc does three videos on it and drops a fourth titled the "hobby is dying". Nothing wrong with specs and grading at all but if thats all you dabble in i feel you cant talk about the hobby as a whole. Also content creators i feel should do their part and promote something. The books, supplies something get people to the shops. Sorry for the long ass comment but ive wanted to make a video on this topic but everytime i hit record i cant pull the trigger.

I really appreciate this comment and for you sharing your thoughts. First, I don't know who Joe is, but that sounds interesting lol. Secondly, you can't blame content creators for much of anything. People are going to do what people do, but I know what you're saying, which I think just speaks to people's character. Many people will do anything for clicks and views. Honestly, if you look at someone like Comic Tom, like him or not, he keeps collectors interested in the hobby for both the primary AND the secondary markets. The thing with floppies is that there is a prime demographic right now that still loves comics and is willing to fork out money. So those LCS's that make good off of new releases and pull lists are staying afloat by a demographic that is aging out and dying out. That's a statistical fact. So what do we do once that happens? I could go on with more details but I'll stop there. I do appreciate you sharing your honest thoughts.

@JernosComicsPopCulture joe is figurative lol but ultimately and I think you'll agree we all hope that what you say and what numbers show don't come to fruition. I can never argue statistics but if I lose my floppies it'll be a sucky day for sure

I know that I'm fighting a losing battle. But I can't give up on floppies. I'm not a flipper, I don't do spec buying, I don't chase variants, I'm just a middle aged guy who grew up reading comics and just want to get young kids into the hobby. I get encouraged when I go to my LCS and see kids in there with their parents buying new issues, talking about stories and covers. Maybe you're right, Chris. Maybe guys like you and I will go the way of the dodo and comics will die off. Not because they're "woke", not because of variants, not because of spec buying or investors, but because guys like us are a dying breed. And it makes me sad. I'm not giving up on physical media yet, but I guess people aren't built like you and I.

First off love the channel. But these dirty flippers are not doing anything to keep modern comics alive. For instance they go into my Lcs and run to all the 1:25 and 1:50 variants and flip them for money. They don't touch the regular covers which is what needs to sell to keep modern comics going. I agree the variant cover collectors are whats keeping things running now. I stopped collecting regular monthlies because of them ending titles and restarting them with new #1s.
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 күн бұрын
I'm using the term "dirty flipper" very loosely and honestly just as a buzz word, because that's what people call anyone that simply flips books. People who do what you are talking about definitely need to be put in check, and this is why many shops will put limits on customers.

not all modern comics are woke. there are always good ongoing series, you just got look for them. ive been on and off with comics for 10 years. i started late when i was 25. i just got back into reading them again. i just find a few ongoing series that i like, and ill buy an omnibus every now and then. i think everyone should try to find at least one ongoing series to buy, to maybe help out modern floppys. but the industry probably needs to make some changes to survive long term. im not familiar with all the statistics, but a shift to political center would help. it doenst matter who you are or what you do, no one likes to be fed propaganda. 9 out of 10 people see straight through any form of it. i love comics, they're the best story telling medium. and im gonna find comics that i like and keep buying them.
