When you're selling such a huge collection, you HAVE to leave the keys in there. You'll get more per book on the whole lot. If you cherry-pick the keys, it'll be harder to move thousands of run filler books. Not impossible, just harder.

Assuming those big keys pictured aren't trash condition I'm selling those and the slabs individually on whatnot/ebay/instagram and then bulking everything else for closest offer to $1/book. If it's really mostly silver/bronze/early copper you can move giant collections like that on craigslist/facebook if you're willing to go under a $1, even in this market. I did it earlier in the year and a friend did it last month. He'd make more doing that then asking for $5/book and sitting around waiting for the best offer. He's not selling this for anywhere near $5/book and the more he waits, the more he's just wasting money.
@JernosComicsPopCulture10 сағат бұрын
Depending on the context of the entire collection (which he has a list for) I'm going to disagree. If the majority of this is silver and early bronze and A and B list titles, his asking price is a fair starting price, especially for a buyer that is buying as a collector. If you separate the keys, the bulk of the lot isn't going to be anywhere near $5 a book if you do the math that way. So, again, hypothetically, if he sells all the keys for market value, he could probably sell everything else well under $5 a book and still get $13k (if he was selling the books like a reseller would). You're saying that he should sell silver age ASM, FF, Thor, JIM, Green Lantern books for a dollar each? That's just honestly laughable. Even in this market, in mid grade, you're getting at MINIMUM 20 bucks a book. For ASM, 50 bucks a book. MINIMUM. If he removes the keys and sells the rest in bulk still, then he will be attracting more dealers rather than collectors and will be lucky if they offer him a dollar a book, and that is what you're telling him to do to make more money, and that's flat out wrong. Also, waiting has nothing to do with wasting money. That statement makes no sense. To me, it sounds like he doesn't want to take the time to sell it individually, which is where he would MAXIMIZE his return, but he's also in no rush to get lowballed. The only way I agree with you is if the 2000 books that we haven't seen are 1976 and up, not A or B list runs, and just two gun kid, Kull, and D list junk that no one wants.

@@JernosComicsPopCulture Based on the pictures I have zero reason to believe the majority of this collection is silver and early bronze for A and B list titles. The books in the pics are supposed to be the best books of the collection - but only 2 of the ASM's are silver and none of the ASM's are huge keys. None of the DC books are major keys, no silver Batman and only one bronze Batman. If that's the best of the best then I'm comfortable assuming what's left after taking out the big keys aren't going to stress me letting go for a $1 to move the collection so that I can reinvest the money. He has a whole pic of just Captain Marvel books... good luck selling those for more than $5 - silver age or not. Silver age marvel doesn't just sell for $20 anymore. Captain Marvel/Sub-Mariner/Nick Fury - if they're not keys or high grade they'll only move if they're cheap. You think you're selling those non-key Green Lanterns for $20 in this market? Again, good luck. As far as leaving the keys in to attract collectors - you're not selling what I'm looking at to collectors. Not enough big keys and the big keys that are in there aren't big enough. You're only selling this to flippers and dealers. And yes, waiting is wasting money. He could quickly move the big keys for slightly less than market value and quickly move the rest of the collection in bulk for less than $1 and reinvest that money in other keys that will move much easier and faster and have more upside than what he currently has. And he won't have to wait weeks and maybe months for that collection to go through negotiations and actually sell. I did what I'm suggesting earlier in the year and a buddy of mine did it last month. We both reinvested the money in books that we've already flipped and made a much bigger profit on than we would have if we had juiced up a collection with a bunch of keys/slabs and twiddled our thumbs while we waited for it to move for the price we wanted. I guarantee this is going to sit for what he's asking, he's going to get frustrated with it not moving and eventually take an offer that is much less than what he could have made by going the other way.

@@CrystalMax7777 First off, I actually agree with everything you said in the last comment, outside of the waiting part. Waiting does not waste money, it just doesn't bring you fast money, especially if you're not looking to "reinvest." It seems like this guy wants to part with his collection, so to assume he's going to "reinvest" is way off, imo. Also, I never said silver age marvel simply sells for 20 bucks. Never said anything close to that. I even said that Captain Marvel books don't go for that much and even said the Carol Danvers 1st appearance is going to be struggle to even get a hundred bucks graded. With all that being said, you're right about what you said about this being the best he has. He sent me the list. We see pretty much every silver age book in the collection in the pictures, and there is no more A list books either, outside of later number Thor books that move up into the 90s. I feel his descrpition of what he had was very misleading. Also, he has the grades listed, and the majority of them aren't even mid grade, but low grade, and many of them have water damage. SOOOO... I still stand by everything I said in the video though. Everything I said was based on the hypothetical of what the rest of his collection was. Knowing what's in his collection now, I might not even give him a dollar a book. So good call on not being optimistic of what else he had.

@JernosComicsPopCulture9 сағат бұрын
Cap 100 a secondary key? First Juggernaut a secondary key? Red Sonja? You can label them what you want. The only thing that matters is value. From what I see, the majority of these books can seller for at minimum 4x 5 bucks a book. Again, everything is hypothetical because we don't know what the rest of the collection is. If the rest of the collection resembles what we see, then yes, 13k is most likely easily only 25% of market value. But that's why anyone interested needs to see the list before making an offer.
@denymenot13538 сағат бұрын
@ first of all ,these are second and third tear characters with an exception with a few. You pointing out a few keys out of over 2 thousand . if this seller is displaying all his high end books then you safely assume the rest aren’t much. Yes $5 or $6 a book is nice but to pay $13 thousand a simple books with about 10 keys if u call them that..the second appearance of Morbius is a secondary key.
@JernosComicsPopCulture8 сағат бұрын
Never said a 2nd app wasn’t secondary. I ultimately agree with you though, but there are some prime keys. But to your point. I’m basing everything on a hypothetical. I have an update that you’ll probably enjoy

For a dealer with a shop or online store, 2k comics isn’t that many. They NEED inventory. This is prime back issue inventory being sold at a fraction of its market value. If it was modern junk, then it wouldn’t move. Silver and Bronze Age A list titles move every day.

I will respectfully disagree 100%. I speak on this at the end of the video. Selling off the keys leaves him then with a bulk lot of books that he will not get anything close to $5 a book for.

Also, many raw books are selling at or even higher than their graded counterparts right now. The slab market is not full proof right now.

@JernosComicsPopCulture It is really difficult to sell $13k in comics. It looks like 99% of these books are non-keys. Only non-keys that sell are ASM. The rest of the books will take a lot of time and effort. Just IMO

@@gregk9710 First off, you've only sseen maybe just over 100 books out of the 2300 books in the collection, yet you're making a statement that 99% aren't keys. You actually have no idea. Secondly, saying the only non-keys that sell are ASM books is extremely ignorant and just dead wrong. Selling comics in general takes time and effort. Selling anything does. Running a business of any kind takes time and effort. I appreciate your respectful back and forth, and I say this with all due respect, but I'm not sure where you're pulling these statements out of, because there is no base for you to stand on.
