I gotta tell you, this is my favourite video on the internet. I’ve been overseas for a short while but felt quite homesick and that led me to this video. I can’t believe how well this captures the essence of the NSW experience. Deeper into the countryside, the tribulations faced by the everyday commuter. This video is a journey in and of itself, the narration is informative, funny and ultimately reels us in on the journey too. A true gem on the internet that most of us that grew up in NSW can relate to on a deeply personal level. Loved it mate, keep up the great work

Thank you. As a Blue Mountains girl now living in Qld, I thoroughly enjoyed that trip down memory lane. I'm now homesick though, and like every year around this time, longing for a taste of winter.

Great video sounds like a typical British rail journey on a hst /xpt with the delays and rubbish weather the train is a icon of rail travel that has given vears of great service in gb and Australia 🚆

An excellent documentary of a train that I once worked between 1986 and 1990. A lot of things have changed.

I've been to Bathurst, NSW one sunny day in April, 2019. I started my trip at around 6.25AM from Hornsby to Strattfield in time to catch the early morning train to Lithgow. Took another train ride to Bathurst finally arriving past 11AM. My first train ride in a beautiful countryside of NSW. Memorable.....!

I live in Oberon, you might be pleased to know the NSW govt has helped with getting the line fixed, and eventually operational, between Oberon and Hazelgrove. The OTHR is hoping to get enough funds to extend it to Tarana eventually. Though it'll be just a heritage/tourist service, I hope you'll join here in Oberon when it eventually opens.

I went on the Dubbo XPT once, but from Strathfield to Lithgow

Good to see what I am in for. Going to Dubbo in September. During day. Leave 7.40 am from Central. 1st Class. Then Coach to Cobar. All the XPT/ Explorer trains need upgrading though.

Great video. I lived in Bathurst for a few years but for some reason never caught it westbound. Keen to try it one day. 16:20 When you mentioned “another blessing”, I assumed you were going to say the kid in front of you had gotten off the train but alas it was not to be. 🤣 So are you a train driver? 🤔
@Jerram892 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Haha that Kid proceeded to get on a bus towards Walgett I think. Too bad for them!

Very enjoyable video and the rain reminded me of the UK; the colours of the landscape are less bleached out with some rain. Food looked pretty good quality to me. Can you help me with the below points? 15:13 Changing the direction of the seats ?? Possible on old trams but on the XPT ? 19:19 Does this thing have a ?? (couldn't quite make out what you were saying)
@Jerram892 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment The seats do change direction, but normally this is done by the staff when the train terminates and returns. In this case some passengers did it themselves so they could have their little girl sleep. I think she was a little unwell. "Does this thing have a Daysitter" - that is a first class sleeper cabin in the day config (a separate compartment with 3 seats). If you watch my XPT to Brisbane video you'll see what that is. Thanks.

XPT gets substituted for an Xplorer occasionally.

The glamorous Metropole guest house is an internationally famed hostelry. Actually it looks fine. Luckily you missed a landslide near Lithgow.
@Jerram892 жыл бұрын
Tbh it was great value and as a solo traveller I couldn't fault it for the price. The landslide was not long after I went through otherwise it'd be bus both ways!
@simonf89022 жыл бұрын
It’s a very old train. It’s a miracle we even still have country trains. There’s no money in them.
@shalininaicker2 жыл бұрын
Yep 40 years old, getting close to retirement for the XPTs.

The electrification to Lithgow ( Bownfels) was originally for coal traffic. Not for passenger trains. Yet no more electric locomotives. The nature of change.
@doubledee96752 жыл бұрын
Yes, the passenger traffic was the lesser consideration in the electrification of the line. However, the vastly improved service which electric trains could offer persuaded many more people to live in the Mountains and work in Sydney or one of the western suburbs. That service remains. However, there is now no electric hauled freight traffic on the Mountains, Newcastle or Illawarra lines. There's been no real explanation for the loss of the electric locos.
