16 years ago today, I'm surfing in Santa Cruz at Arches. Finish the set, load up, and there's a convoy of psychedelic school buses heading up Highway 1 - dozens of them. Strange. Never seen that before. Jump in the car. Heater on. KFOG on - Jerry's passed away, so I joined the convoy and headed for Golden Gate Park. I'll never forget that evening celebration of a life well lived. Thank you Jerry for all the music, which will never stop.

From Bob’s cerebral cortex to Jerry’s mouth, down on to his fingers from Heaven. If God could reveal himself in a song, and weave a tapestry of color along a path of lyrical nirvana, this would be it. Rest easy Jerry, you’ve served the world with more joy than any musician alive. Your devotion to its divinity is as mercurial as it was magical. Dearly, you are missed, Mr. Garcia

The key is they never discouraged "tapers" and actually would allocate space for them at times. So it was freely allowed. And now they can be even more easily shared. Cool how the this band that was the most touring band (by far) of their key time, allowed taping and the result is we have all this material. So glad it was these guys. Not that their practice stopped anyone else from doing it. But their "wide-open-ness" gives us our big-ass smiles.

Seriously. "Jerry Garcia was an absolute wonder to behold. When he walked on stage, he had every single person in that room riding on his every eyebrow move, and I have never -- I go to so many concerts, I`ve never seen it again." - Trey "I put Jerry Garcia right next to Jimi Hendrix. That's the level of importance I give him in my book of rock guitarists and American musicians. Jerry Garcia is an American musical icon. He's an enormously influential American artist." - Trey

Music is unquestionably divine. Most all "religions" agree that beautiful sounds are Gods gift to us. I have had epiphany from music when I have been shaken to my soul. device9 I saw the Dead in the 70's and it was magical and still is this is where we come to church. The Buddhist have proven divine sounds they call it chanting a mantra.

when i come back to these songs played by jerry (such as: i shall be released, so many roads, señor, tangled up in blue, standing on the moon....) i remember my first trip with lsd and psylocibin, i mixed them together and was one of the most beautiful moments of my life. I was living at that moment on a little island in the mediterranean in a cliff watching the inmense horizon of the sea, surrounded by the sounds of nature and music, feeling part of the earth, truly conected with her and with my dog partner and protector, a little black cat from the wild which was my best friend those years, the bees, flowers, gigant cactus, tall beings named trees, playing with the mud...oh...and the night sky of course... magical, healing...then the sunrise came and it was like a painting. i never had another trip like that and i think that music helped a lot...i listened to many artists on that trip but the best to trust were jerry garcia and grateful dead! their music seems made for trippin hahaha so peaceful
