I am caught in a day of reflecting upon my life and the many journeys within. Going to see The Jerry Band was so soul soothing. The world could use a dose of it these days.

What continues to astound me is that as we watched Garcia’s painful meltdown with the Dead and no one noticed or cared- meanwhile up to the very end the JGB was sharp and on point; you’d never guess what was going on elsewhere. This should not be news to anyone, but during an ongoing massive relisten it was so dreadfully obvious I had to stop by and see if anyone else had noticed this, or have my marbles rolled even further away?

Compare any of his playing and voice to any similar era Dead show. What a difference. No matter how lugubrious he was with the Dead, almost all through the last days you can hear (and see) the difference when he’s doing what he loves, by that time I’m pretty sure was not playing with the Dead, all detractors aside. Although he actually said words close to that, even though it was much earlier. And ❤️ seeing Melvin.

no one owns a song and i dont care if they did write it....because music is made when someone who can take the energy(psychic energy) that is given off by all life , anyway when that is recieved by a person that person then can translate that to music(or some other creative thing) and thats what the dead or jerry did the best...they took the audiences energy and gave it back as music...pure love

Stop that train: I'm leavin', today! Stop that train: I'm leavin', anyway! Stop that train: I'm leavin'. And I said: It won't be too long whether I'm right or wrong; I said, it won't be too long whether I'm right or wrong. All my good life I've been a lonely man, Teachin' my people who don't understand; And even though I tried my best, I still can't find no happiness. So I got to say: Stop that train: I'm leavin', oh, baby now! Stop that train: I'm leavin', don't care what you say! Stop that train: I'm leavin'. And I said: It won't be too long whether I'm right or wrong; Said, it won't be too long whether I'm right or wrong. Some goin' east; and-a some goin' west, Some stand aside to try their best. Some livin' big, but the most is livin' small:: They just can't even find no food at all. I mean, stop it: Stop that train: I'm leavin', leavin', mm-hmm. Stop that train: I'm leavin', I don't mind! Stop that train: I'm leavin'. And I said: It won't be too long whether I'm right or wrong; I said it won't be too long whether I'm right or wrong. Stop that train: I'm leavin', leavin'! Stop that train: I'm leavin', can't take it! Stop that train: I'm leavin',got to be better! It won't be too long whether I'm right or wrong; I said it won't be too long whether I'm right or wrong.

Others will argue music is intellectual property. I've heard it said that DSO is a GD tribute band. IMHO that's like calling the Boston Pops a Beethoven cover orchestra. Music is collective property and should remain such. It is a universal language, which requires no translation. If you have the gift, play what you feel.

@sessionskier You're missing what he's talking about. At a Dead show there were others that sang tunes, whether or not it was their own or a cover. When you went to JGB show Garcia sang every tune. On top of that, the way he played the tunes he decided to cover, he made it his own the way he approached the tune...
