Unfortunately, the LSO do not appear to be in top form on the night. I would put it down to lack of rehearsal time.

Shame that the 'Black Magic' part of the 'Supergirl' end titles was skipped.

@@iceomistar4302: A fellow named Chris Kinsinger, who at least used to post regularly at FILM SCORE MONTHLY. (The concert *was* almost 25 years ago, so life has gone on for everybody -- and extinguished for some, including Maestro.)

A lot of film aficionados during the heyday of 1970s - 1990s "popcorn flicks" regarded Jerry as a John Williams substitute, as though he were a lesser talent who could be commissioned to score a film if Williams was unavailable. That is totally misinformed & just plain WRONG! These 2 selections are a perfect case-in-point: Jerry's STAR TREK theme was often compared to Williams' main title for STAR WARS, as though he was hired with the directive to copy that style. Nope! Jerry came to the recording sessions with no "Trek theme" in mind & solely considered the beautiful & sweeping "Ilia's Theme" to be the central musical identity of ST: THE MOTION PICTURE. It wasn't until director Robert Wise realized that there's no Trek theme did Jerry compose it. John Williams was NOT director Richard Donner's first choice to score SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE, it was Jerry! Because of their previous collaboration on THE OMEN, Donner wanted Jerry, but he was unable to because he was already committed to scoring Richard Attenborough's Anthony Hopkins thriller MAGIC. So it wasn't the case of Jerry being offered the job because Williams was unavailable - it was the OPPOSITE! One wonders if his brilliant music for SUPERGIRL would have been used for the Superman theme. Either way, he knocked it out of the park!

Not Star Trek First Contact. Actually, Star Trek The Motion Picture.
