If John Williams did not win best soundtrack for star wars I would say this soundtrack would come a close second in 1977. This movie was a real gem. It was quickly forgotten after 1977 because Star Wars made all other movies made that year disappear. But this movie I think was one of the best movies of 1977.

John Williams worked under Jerry Goldsmith early in his career playing piano in films like Studs Lonigan.

Back in the day, Goldsmith and Williams were the soundtrack equivalent of The Stones and the Beatles. One light, one dark. Both were Maestros.

Wonderful soundtrack. Something funny just occured to me while watching this. The movie starred Elliott Gould, Barbara Streisands ex husband. And also stars James Brolin , Barbara's current husband. Strange coincidence.
My all time favourite composer, and the theme (one of my favourites of Jerry) from this film shows one of the reasons why. He wrote some of the most stirring exciting music ever, He could have composed for a scene someone taking the dog for a walk, and make you sit on the end of your seat with excitement. And yet amongst all the exiting music he wrote, he could write some beautiful heart stirring stuff e.g. 1.07 of the above theme. He should have won the Oscar many more times than he did.

Precisely how I've always felt. From the most mundane subject matter to earthshaking story points that could bring the heavens down -- every movement, every motif, every note he crafted told you something of deep significance was being depicted. The full gamut of emotions brought to life by one irreplaceable genius. There are movies I rate as classics that I would have considered throwaways without what he lent to them.

Great score, as usual, for Jerry Goldsmith. He used a very similar background beat for his theme to Total Recall, which may have been an ode to Capricorn One since both movies involved a mission to Mars.

This is a superb and exciting piece of music to an equally superb thriller movie. Mr. Goldsmith is definitely among the musical legends as far as I am concerned. The music to this film puts you right into the movie itself and also describes the mood perfedctly. My hats off to this guy for producing such an awesome theme!

I love this. Sure like the romantic melody introduced at around 1:07. There's a longer 9:13 version of this on KZbin, too. Movie had some real snappy lines. :) "How much does any dream cost?" "Reruns, of 'I Love Lucy.'"

@DOMuricu ...this is the main title from the re-recording for the album release of the score, found on the GNP Crescendo disc. I thought it is much better suited for an edit because of the punchy nature of the performance although i don't know about the missing strings...they are obviously there in the middle bridge section. Thanks for yer comment though...mighty appreciated and glad you enjoyed it.
