What a great version of this song! This was one of the first few songs that turned me into a JJW solid fan for....25 years now. It was a goal of mine to meet him then. Being from Toronto, it would be a trip. So one day i called Tried & True Records and asked if he was planning on coming up to toronto. I was very sad hearing about Jerry Jeff passing, but I know Heaven just got a little more funny. Thanks Jerry Jeff, for everything you did for this heartbroken boy from Ontario.

Saddest news to start the day is losing a great old friend. Jerry Jeff Walker's music was played so often by me & my friends, he was like an old friend - always welcome to drop in for a howdy and bringing his unique sense of humor. Perfect music for almost any time. ~You'll be missed Scamp. Your like won't come by again in my lifetime. Born Mar. 16, 1942, Jerry Jeff passed on last night Oct. 23, 2020.

This is the first sone on the CD "Viva Terlingua!" ... but this KZbin is FANTASTIC! JJ looks all spruced up ... What a handsome guy. It PAINS me that he didn't get the USA recognation he is so deserving of. Other "old greats" don't hold a candle to him. When you take a very close look, like I have been doing for a few months, he tops them all. WOW! I'm collecting HARD and FAST! Playing his fun music gives me total PEACE from the everyday hassles. Easy Come, Easy Go! Bravo, JJW!

"Don't matter how you do it, just do it like you know it." He expands those lyrics differently here. But I treasure his tried and true LP version even more. That aside . . . a great Jerry Jeff Walker song!

In Concert JJ always sang it "Gettin' by on Gettin' Highs my stock and trade !" The Wizard did him in Concert in Colorado in the mid 80s in Steamboat Springs! I did a bunch of Concerts until a snowstorm , but that's another story ! JJ never remembered we had met in New Orleans in mid 70's at THE CLARITY on Bourbon St. next to Your Fathers Mustache! Great folk, jazz ,bluegrass other types of music.and the next day at his concert when he asked me , first time he speaks to me he says" you got any toot " I had no idea what it was , then my friend Johnnie Walker ,a great solo musician who played anything you could name and why JJ came into the Clarity to begin with the night before ,on hearing JW play. JJ came in had a rum and Coke , or JD I forget. So , after JW finishes his set JJ asks him could he do a song with his guitar....he proceeds to play his Martin and introduces for first time in public a new song his friend wrote. He plays " Night Rider's Lament" you couldn't hear a pin drop...and the bar was full ! Just a page in My life not yours !!!

In 1975 after i got out of school my self and 3 buddies drove down to visit a friend in McAllen down on the Mexican border. Since I'd been listening to Jerry Jeff on Viva Teralingua? for the past year I insisted we stop in Austin to visit the Armadillo World Head Quarters and Capital Saddlery (hoped to meet Charlie Dunn) Unfortunately Charlie was gone but I got my first pair of boots in Austin. Later that night at the Armadillo in attempting to charm a young lady with my Canadian accent I asked if she was from Texas (clever eh?) She looked at me weirdly and said "Hell no. I aint from Texas, I"m from AUSTIN!

Can someone please explain, in sort of crayon eating terms, what is the deal with the time signature of this song? I can't figure it out. The frame where they start the chorus line, they seem to skip a beat. Like it's 7 beats per measure during the chorus or something. help my mind understand this beat

Jerry Jeff was a premium bullshit artist. Exemplified by the fact that his name is made up. Total bullshit with a unique voice that is unforgettable and endearing.
