This was the beginning of a great relationship with some fantastic people. We've taken the Bronx Funk, to Greaseland recording several times, since this, with Chris Gill, Alabama Mike, Billy Price , Frank Bey and more to come. That's D'mar aka Derrick Martin jumping off of the skins., and Jim Pugh on the organ. Thanks for all of your good thoughts.

Drums are fantastic. Drummers: listen to the groove. He is driving the train but not overbearing. The backbeat is a work of art. Look at his posture! He is dancing, but up and down. That won’t hurt you.

I agree its great, i think his playing is a little busy but its not overbearing at all bc his top priority is keeping the pocket

Great to hear Jaco's line with Jerry's warm, buttery tone. Headphones- you can really feel the bass- crank it up loud. And the horn section in a club setting- great! And that funky drummer. Jerry always plays with the solid drum guys. Love Jerry's extended bass solo.

Jaco didn't write the bass line. It was a cover.

That’s not Jaco’s line. Original by Fred Wesley and Maceo of James Brown fame. Jaco burrowed the song please and the bassline. Check out the original please.

Nice! Jerry and James Jamerson were two of my main influences and this was a fine funky band. If that wasn't Bernard Purdie on drums he sure played like him. I don't know what Bernard looks like but he was great! Where is this club? Thanks from the jazzman north of Boston. My last gig was in 91 so out of the loop now-sorry for the ignorance.

+NewHampshireBoy Hey, thanks for viewing and enjoying the clip. Actually, the South SF Bay area (i.e., Silicon Valley more or less) has become a mecca for this type of music-in particular mid-20th century blues and R&B-and loads of fantastic musicians live here, attracting other greats (like Jerry Jemmott) who pass through and mix it up regularly!

Hey Jerry You could have at least given a shoutout to Jaco Pastorius, it is his song. The man idolized you growing up, you interviewed him in Jaco Pastorius Modern Electric Bass.
@KidAndersen
@KidAndersen Жыл бұрын
Jerry dedicated this tune to Jaco, and talked about their long standing friendship before he played the tune. Pee Wee Ellis wrote the tune, not Jaco, but Jaco and Jerry used to jam on it all the time, and of course, it is closely associated with Jaco. Perhaps to explain, i should inform you that this is a video of one song form a whole evening of music and talking. The band didn't just materialize out of nowhere at the time this video starts. There was lots of music and talking both before and after. Including several nods to Jerry's friend Jaco Pastorius, with whom he shared a mutual admiration. To assume that Jerry would leave that out, just because the video starts right after all that, seems odd to me.
@BassGod1225

@@KidAndersen In what clip does he dedicate this tune to Jaco? How would anyone know what was said if it wasn't recorded, to assume that people would know this is just asinine. Instead of being a pompous asshole, try not to be a pompous asshole. Does that seem odd to you?
