I used to work at Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and go to church there. I can tell you that even though Jimmy thought rock music was the Devil's music, he was secretly proud that Jerry Lee and Mickey were his cousins and were such successes. His face would light up and his voice get warm when he spoke of Jerry Lee starting rock and roll with Elvis. I always smiled inside when Jimmy would talk about them. He will tell you Jerry Lee was the master of the piano. All 3 of them never studied music in their lives, played by ear.

@@billallmon4094 Jimmy sold enough books and music albums that he could have been a millionaire recording secular music were he not preaching the gospel. He had many offers to do so. As far as the "the lady's of the evening', what you have to understand: no Christian walking this planet is a perfect saint. Some of us have greater grace from God where we don't have much weakness that afflicts us. God only knows why he let Brother Jimmy suffer through these sinful encounters...but let me remind you if you know anything about the bible is that God is a God of forgiveness. Back in the new testament, when it was recorded how King David seduced one of his general's wife, impregnate her, and in an attempt to cover his sin, arrange to have her husband killed by having him placed in the front of a battle. However, God forgave him, called David a man after his own heart, and name his eternal throne after David. I am saying all this to point out, what brother Swaggart did PALE in comparison to what David did. Yet people are so fast to label Brother Jimmy a false teacher. I beg to differ.

Carl McVoy (1931 - 1992) was an American pianist and cousin to the younger Jerry Lee Lewis. He got hooked on boogie-woogie while in New York with his father which he subsequently brought back to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Jerry Lee Lewis would visit his older cousin and get him to show him things on the piano. McVoy recorded "You Are My Sunshine" at Sun Records and a number of other sides in 1957 and 1958, most which have remained unissued. He died at the age of 61 early in 1992.

My grandpappy was a bluegrass Gospel singer-- not at this level. On Mother's Day my husband gave me a guitar and I'd never held one. Within 22 minutes I was playing Amazing Grace. On July 4th I played my first special in church (Amazing Grace and I Surrender All). But ya know what's weird, I can only play Gospel. If it's in you, it's in you.
