Jerry Reed is one of the best guitarists AND entertainers of all time. You can tell he's having a blast, and that it's genuine. To see him and Glen Campbell, pickin and grinnin on a summer day on the lake, surrounded by a huge crowd... now that's my idea of heaven. Forgive me for sounding cliche, but it really doesn't get any better than this.

Except that Mr. Toussaint's rendition of his song was smooth and melodic and didn't really contain the Dixieland whimsy you referred to. In all honesty, I like Allen Toussaint's version a lot, but I *LOVE* Glen's version. The Dixieland Whimsy (outstanding description, BTW) is what speaks to me. Another song he sped up was "Galveston." Jimmy Webb's version was slower and more somber in tone. I don't think Mr. Toussaint or Mr. Webb had a problem with Glen's tweaking of their songs. He made them the $ucce$$e$ they became. For the record, "Southern Nights" is my favorite of Glen Campbell's hits. This is my favorite version of this song.

I got home from Vietnam in 1968 and never heard of Glen Campbell. One of the guys living in the BOQ at Fort Gordon, GA had his door open and I heard Glen. I stopped in my tracks and asked who was that singing? He told me who it was. I immediately went out and bought his albums and listen to them to this day. Jerry Reed and Glen Campbell were great musicians. May They Rest In Peace.

The highlight for me on "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Comedy Hour" was whenever Jerry Reed stopped by. It was his appearances that led to his own summer replacement series. Burt Reynolds was a fan of Jerry's music and was surprised at how funny Jerry was. It's said that the summer replacement show convinced Burt to cast Jerry in "W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings". And the rest, as they say, is history.

The two of them together is simply magical. The swagger of Jerry, the virtuoso that's Glen--when they got together there was truly nothing like it. You can always see Jerry complimenting Glen and taking second chair, and Glen always loving playing with Jerry by the expression on his face. Damn that's good.
