I love and miss Tom Snyder, but he could be an overly sensitive host sometimes. When Jerry did Tom’s signature bit at 13:04 to close out the segment (which I took as an homage that Jerry watched his show), Tom had to say something about it when they came back from break at 13:17, perhaps because he thought it was disrespectful for Jerry to take his signature line. Same with the comment about the traffic from Tiburon and the water towers bit, which was partly in fun, and no doubt partly to remind the producer Bruce McKay whose show it was. This is probably in part why he was never offered a better opportunity by the network, but also part of what made his show compelling TV. Warts, awkwardness, and all, he was a genuine fellow who said what was on his mind and always remembered and acknowledged his audience.
@bigjohn088653 жыл бұрын
I just thought Tom was making a joking reference to how Jerry "stole this line" (13:06, 13:17).

Remember that incident around Fall of 95ish when Tom was in the news after panicking on a commercial airline during turbulence and yelling "WE'RE ALL GONNA' DIE!"? I was working the graveyard shift at an ABC affiliate and didn't get to watch his show when I was working, did he ever talk about that incident on his show?

@@dongiller I've been trying to find any mention of it... but it pre-dated the internet, so I can't find anything. From my memory, I heard about the incident from Don Imus in the Morning.... like I said, I was working graveyard shift (master control) so I don't even know if the incident even made the mainstream news. Oh well... I'll keep searching and see if I can find any mention of it. Thanks for posting Tom's vids!
