I’ve been struggling with finding a good organization system for my comedy stuff - I’m going to try this out! Thanks for walking through how to do it!

I write on 4 x 6 notecard, front key word , backside joke -- do 2 per day in 60 days I have a stack, in a yr. I have hundreds, sort them out, polish, and create a set -- put all the cards in filebox, when I have time then transfer to Google docs -- in just 3-6 months you can generate a lot of material

Great method to organize my material. Turns out it works in a similar way with iOS Notes. Makes it easier to refer to the same material multiple times without duplications.

Great to know. And iOS Notes will sync to all your devices if they’re Apple

Your videos had a lot to do with my current full-time gig; Cruise Ship Comedian. Been following you for years! Thank you for putting these out!

This is great stuff, Jerry! I reckon this organisation technique will work well for songwriting as well. Cheers!

Absolutely! Stay tuned for part 2 that shows how to keep everything in one document then link to sections in that master document. Thanks to @Jeff Hamel for that suggestion.
@jshamel3 жыл бұрын
Great video. FYI, you can also create these links for sections within the same document. Can avoid so many open tabs.
@JerryCorley3 жыл бұрын
Great tip, Jeff! In fact, I was just doing another video to show how to keep all the material on one document and use headers (labels of your jokes) to mark and identify each joke in the document, then create a hyperlink that will then take you to that section in the document. In web pages they're called anchors. I appreciate the comment!

@@JerryCorley , keep the great videos coming! In fact, I figure this is a good time to tell you how I have benefitted from your videos. A couple years ago, I was heading to an army reunion and was "voluntold" that I was the MC for the final banquet night dinner. That's when I decided to turn it into a mini roast/humorous evening. I used A LOT of your suggestions and ideas and that evening far exceeded my expectations. I have no problem with public speaking, but I am no stand up comic. That evening, for about an hour I was an amateur standup comic and it was an absolute blast. Thank you sir!

@@jshamel Yeah, but then you'll have no record of when you wrote each joke.

Nice! I worked with Excel and Word on my Hard Drive like this but i´m more and more convinced to put it in a cloud. That´s where my jokes belong. :)

I consider myself an " in the funny moment" funny guy. If that makes sense ....I've been told I need to get onstage but, I don't have the balls to get up there or even know how to write out my shhhtuff. Thank you very very much for this video. New sub right here

I just recorded a second part to this which shows you a way to link to certain sections of your document so you can keep a set together on one page

I wonder if there is a place on the internet where we could share lists or is that a dumb idea since it it not personal to the comedian
@JerryCorley2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think collaboration is ever dumb. But it’s the angle of the idea that comes from a comedian’s unique persona. One person’s list will have different ideas from another’s based on that uniqueness.

That's not really what redundancy means with servers, but it doesn't matter.... More importantly, what about organising the flow of a set so one joke leads to another?
@joemoment-o12753 жыл бұрын
Would you say comedy is a good release of frustrations?
@JerryCorley3 жыл бұрын
George Carlin used to say, "Take all the things that drive you crazy and make them funny." So frustrations are the best things to put into your act. The trick is keeping them funny.
@joemoment-o12753 жыл бұрын
@@JerryCorley I DIDNT hear that from Carlin. Thank you.
