I was scanning reviews for the DR Premier and found yours. I gotta say, it was long man! However, you had the CONTENT I was looking for that showed me it's capabilities and now I'm confident the machine I ordered (Premier) is the right one for me and my Back 40. Good job man. And, good on you for keeping yourself active despite your disability.

I too am handicapped and have been looking to see if this would help me. I'm also left handed with bad shoulder and also have a jeep liberty renegade lol. Thank you. I think you have sold me on getting one. My grandpa told me years ago to keep moving as long as I can or my body will give up. Keep fighting I am proud of you. Thanks again

2 things I noticed. You had the string set to low and you didn't tighten the belt tesioner. I own this exact DR trimmer and it should have no problem at all with cutting grass taller than you. when the string and the belt tesioner is adjusted correctly it will take chunks out of trees lol. Don't feel bad almost everyone doesn't adjust the belt tesion lol

Good job! I bought that mower and still haven’t used it! 🤦🏻♀️ You’ve given me some great tips, particularly the point at timestamp 25:55 regarding the belt tension.. I think I’ll be buying that triangular string you bought. I read a pro tip for the DR string was to boil it for a few minutes, 2-3, then keep a moist sponge with the string in a bag. The string breaks significantly less. Don’t beat yourself up about not reading the manual, I'm the same. I’m sure you’ll remember those lessons more from your experience as opposed to just reading the instructions. 👍🏽

My parents had the first one that was made so I was sure this would work for me I have disabilities head to toe and the disc and sciatic nerve drops me anytime so a carry trimmer is dangerous and this wow I got the beaver blade too and been using it for yrs now clearing my 3.5 acres little at a time and so proud too. Worth its money for sure

Great video. I just got the premier. Has electric start. I also got quick release head. Makes it much easier. I use my hand held battery one for steeper slopes and kit of the way stuff but this makes short work out of the rest. In one use it was so dirty it looked 10 years old. I cleaned it up with a wet rag and leaf blower to get the dust off it. Tha k you again for the great video!

Great video and thank you for taking the time to create it and share your experiences! I know this is a few years back when you made this video, but I just bought this model. Im hoping to tackle and sorta keep on top of my almost 3 acres that has the rocks and grass you described. The weeds get crazy tall, taller than I am and I hope to get a handle on them this year. There are so many different types. I hope this machine will allow me to finally mow my land as I have left it wild because of the rocks.

This was invaluable! I have been looking at the Premiere model from DR, and one of the Echo string mowers. I broke my back twice and now have nerve damage and problems bearing any weight above my belt line (so shoulders, arms, etc are extremely limited weight wise). I also have several sections of uneven ground to deal with that I have only been able to use a string trimmer on, but to be honest, it's not just too much for me, but more than what a string trimmer is designed to do. I really like the drive disconnect of the DR Premiere so the engine doesn't shut off. I think only Cub Cadet offers something similar at this time. But I also like the direct mechanical drive of the Echo, and the tilting feature, so I will have to think on what is going to be more important to me in the long run. At least now, I feel that the string mower is a viable option for me, thanks to your videos, and candid disclosure of your health conditions.

They work best with the grass to be cut always on your left side. For a patch like that if you go round and round in a counter clockwise direction it will work well. This way the cut grass is thrown out on the already cut area away from the wheels. If going the other way the clumps of grass end up under the wheels and it is very hard to push. When going counter-clockwise the machine actually pulls itself along. That method along with a tightened drive belt will make all the difference. I have a different make but similar machine and had almost given up on it until I discovered that I had been using it in the wrong direction. Going the correct way my machine cuts through tall grass at a walking speed. Im sure your machine will too.

I don’t know if it makes a difference, but you’re not locking in the cords. After the ends come through the center, and both are pulled evenly under the loop. You then need to push the loop up into the line plate groove above them and then pull ends tight. I’ve seen many wrong videos, you may have seen them too! Oh, I also agree with another viewer, I feel the cord should be up higher when cutting tall weeds. Thank you for sharing, and very impressed with your commitment in staying active and keeping your muscles toned. Stay safe.

I owned a pre-2014 string trimmer and it was the best mover ever. Sadly, I lost the mower in a massive fire in my town. I purchased a new one in 2016. Within 10 minutes of using it, the belt broke. After adjusting the belt several times, the belt still fell off. DR had me send mower to a local DR dealer to repair the belt problem. All the repair place did was put the belt back on! Of course when I got the DR trimmer home, the belt fell off immediately. I told DR that they send me a defective mower, so they sent me a new one. Well, with the new one, the belt fell off within the first hour. Had continual belt problems. I sent this second mower to another DR repair place. This place did some remodeling of the belt area, which seemed to help the belt issue, until the next spring when the belt once again kept coming off. I called DR about this. They pretty much told me I was shit out of luck because the mower is not under warranty. I argued with DR that this mower has been a problem since the first day I got it. They did not care and told me I was on my own. I had a local mower place put on a new belt. He put on a Kevlar belt, and it works much better. Within 20 hours of use, the mower threw a rod/piston (something along those lines). Of course DR would not help me at all, as it is a Briggs and Stratton engine, so DR. told me to call Briggs and Stratton!!!! Forget it, they would not help me either. I had my local guy fix it. It runs okay, but not like a mower with only 20 hours on it. I pulled out the mower to use this spring. Lo and behold the lever that has the rabbit and turtle on it SNAPPED!!! To fix the lever I needed to order a complete assembly kit for it that I now have to take to my local guy to install. This mower has been in the shop more than it has been at my house. NOTE: It is such a coincidence that I started having problems with DR mowers as well as customer service WHEN GENERAC BOUGHT OUT DR!!!!! They are now using cheap, throw away materials in their mower since the buy out. One last thing: I have gone through 3 mow balls in the 20 hours. It is cheap plastic. If your mow ball is broken, you are not able to mow. So sad, as I loved the DR mowers. I don't anymore and I recommend you shop elsewhere. I had purchased a Craftsman walk behind mower because I needed to have the grass mowed and the DR was always in the shop getting fixed. While it is not as fancy as the DR, it is a fraction of the cost of DR. Sure enough when I pulled out my DR mower this spring, the mow ball broke as well as the throttle switch snapping in half, I pulled out my Craftsman mower that has not been touched since last year. The Craftsman started right up and went to work mowing.

This machine is not made to mow large fields, It is made to mow around obstacles were your brush mower cannot reach. This is the wrong mower for the job! Try the DR field and brush mower with a 14 HP engine instead of that little thing!

Painful to watch. The DR throws cut grass to the right, so if you keep the uncut grass on your left you can mow right along and if when there's really thick stuff, you just take smaller bites. 🙂

Be careful purchasing from this company. If they send you a mailing of items on sale they do not stand behind the price listed on the mailing. I received a mailing of tillers on sale. The sale price is 799.99 they would not accept a order for the price listed they said it was a misprint on the flyer it should be 899.99 nothing like false advertising. What else would they not stand behind?
