Buffet was also selling when the pandemic hit, a great entry point for people of my generation (30s, 40s) and a great period for stocks overall. My question is do you think it's a good time to consider selling some stocks too? I’m considering rebalancing my $2M portfolios and curious for the best strategies to do so.

Jesse is a keen observer of the markets and economy and clearly a smart guy - so why does he consistently come to the wrong conclusions? It's because, like a lot of guys and gals that made their mark (and money) during crashes, he always sees another one coming. And those that follow him miss out on out-sized gains for YEARS and years. I know, I used to be one of 'em and I sounded so smart - or thought I did. The truth is there is no substitute for our system here in the U.S. and also no shortage of quality professional management to run the best companies with massive network effects. There's also the debasement of our currency (not inflation - that's year-over-year rise in consumer prices) that is reducing the denominator by which our assets are valued. As the value of the dollar gets eroded, it serves to elevate asset prices. It explains stocks, real estate, gold, Bitcoin, collectibles, etc. all going up.

I thought when economic activity is low, there is less demand for oil
@lawrencesmith9059Ай бұрын
Very smart guy. Oil is going down because investors realize that with Trump in office, oil production will increase and oil prices will drop. China is converting all its transportation to EVs and now those Chinese companies are moving outside China to other countries with very low priced cars. Look for EVs to dominate within 5 years (based on cheaper prices and longer range), so the energy mix is shifting. Electric energy generation is maybe the one area that is strong for energy.

Stocks are in a permanent bull market that will never end. Aside from institutions, the retail investors, pension funds, foreign capital, etc., you have the PPT which will intervene if the indices lose more than a few percent. August with the yen carry trade is the perfect example. A bear market in stocks in the truest sense is AGAINST THE LAW.
@astev52Ай бұрын
That makes no sense, how exactly can a bare market be "AGAINST THE LAW"? What LAW will a bare market break and who will be prosecuted?

@@astev52 It's a figure of speech. Wall Street has clearly declared bear markets off limits. With algorithms, it's very easy to manipulate markets with liquidity sloshing around. It is so simple. look at bankruptcies rate. The data comes direct from the bankruptcy courts and is not manipulated. Also look at the large Household Survey data on full time private sector jobs. Both show recession has been occurring for many months. Other government data is adjusted so much it is meaningless.

If you look at u.s. home prices (inflation adjusted) relative to historical norms, you would’ve gotten out of Real Estate in about 1950 waiting for it to return to suppose bargain price. That’s an entire lifetime where you could’ve made the argument that Real Estate should be avoided. Perhaps the same is true of all other assets, they’ve been undervalued for a century. After all, if everybody knows stocks, I would perform all the other assets, and efficient market demands that they sell for higher prices until they aren’t such obvious money makers. The market is correctly, making them less of a sure thing.

Ehm... Warren Buffet (Berkshire Hathaway) owns big chunks of DaVita (kidney care), Coca Cola, Chevron, Moodys, Kraft Heinz, American Express and others. It's not just Apple and Bank of America. Warren Buffet's problem is the size of his investment company. When you manage a fund that is worth about a trillion dollar, there's only a few big companies you can invest in. If Warren Buffet wanted to buy 10% of Chipotle (just an example) he would have to buy all the Chipotle shares that are offered on a daily basis, and do that for a few days. Halfway the first day the shares would already double in price 😁
