We're a hockey family near Burlington and my kids got into box lacrosse this spring. We went to a Junior B lacrosse game and couldn't believe the fist fights without skates. Even though I spent many years fighting in amateur Muay Thai Kickboxing, it was incredible seeing the fights in lacrosse. The first thing I thought of was that someone's gonna call the cops lol.

Its cool seeing the difference between lacrosse gear in the states vs canada. The helmets they use are like hockey helmets while the ones we use are kinda like football helmets. Also goalies wear a lot more gear than american lacrosse. Look up the Premier Lacrosse League and look at this vs that. No fighting in american lacrosse either

It's easier to exchange blows by fighting like that. There aren't a ton of guys that are avid boxers and know about footwork, stance, head movement etc.

The main reason is repetition and intensity of shots. In the field game, you are defending a 6x6 net in a very wide open area where the strategy for shooters is going to be to shoot around the goaltender, so the goaltenders strategy in turn would be to try and catch the ball first and then use his/her body as a back up, consequently we don’t need much gear. In the indoor game, the nets are 4.9x4 so the shooters have to aim for tighter shots in a much smaller environment than the field game. Shots come in harder from closer ranges and if your not properly equipped it will sting. I play goaltender for both field and box, and when I started playing box (using some outdated goalie equipment) I found I was coming home with more bruises than I did in the field game.
