Theory: 1. Eddward S. and Stephen Dowell are the same person. Stephen could be his middle name that he uses professionally so his full name would be Eddward Stephen Dowell. This would explain why we never get to hear Eddward’s “last name”. Eddward is probably referred to constantly as the gardener because he buried his son in the garden. The garden is associated with his homocidal personality rather than his doctor personality. 2. Abraham realizes through the letters that Stephen is becoming unhinged/thinking about killing his family. Abraham probably knows Stephen’s first name and realizes that it is actually Stephen talking about himself. So when Stephen talks about “Edward” wanting to kill his family he becomes concerned. This is why Abraham told Stephen to send his wife and child somewhere safe. 3. Either Stephen himself or someone else is using Stephen’s own therapy method to make him remember his crimes. This would explain how we have access to all of the medical tapes regardless of which personality we are viewing the game through. This is forcing him to remember all of the therapy that he did/attempted to do on himself. This also explains how in the opening scene (from the last episode) you start off receiving the video therapy and then “wake up” in the doctor’s chair. 4. This one is kind of random, but I think the crows, Thought and Memory essentially represent his two personalities. He is afraid that Thought (Stephen) will leave and never come back, but he is more afraid of Memory (Eddward & the literally memory of murdering his family). Whether the crows (his personalities) coming back and or recombining is something he is afraid WON’T happpen or is afraid WILL happen is up for debate I think. 5. Also random, but I’m not sure how real the children’s pictures are. He may just be projecting the gruesome imagery onto other drawings his son made in the past. This would explain why one picture shows the crow attacking the mother. Theodore probably wouldn’t know to think of his father as one of the crows. However the photo of the giant knife in the the mom is debatable. The reports did say that the son was found two days after the wife was stabbed to death [note: possible interpretation differences about the 2 days thing? It makes more sense to me that they FOUND the boy 2 days later instead of him actually being KILLED 2 days later]. So it is possible that the son could have seen his dead mother; that also adds up with the son’s phone call. However, I find it unlikely that Theodore found his dead mom and decided to draw a picture but who knows. I think it is more likely that Stephen is imagining this drawing after realizing that his son found his dead wife or at least feeling guilty about killing the mother of his child. I'm binging the series because I was just recommended this by a friend and I got a theory to this crazy ride! Pre Finale Theory: Stephen is the "host" and Abraham & Eddward/Eddie are his alter egos for his SPD/MPD & Richard Birdman is either a pen name for his book hobby, a previous identity before he ran away & changed it, or it's another alter ego personality Here's my logic behind that; There is so much variety from what's being said and what the subtitles & game tells us. We are told we don't have a wife and kids and yet we hear their voices every so often! And the subtitles "translate" the tapes! So what I think is going on is Abraham is a conscious alter ego and he tries to guide and help Stephen in a way he'll understand since he's not aware of the circumstances whenever he switches into him. So Abraham warns Stephen of the more hostile & aggressive alter ego Eddie who most likely sees the wife & kids as a threat so he wants to "protect" Stephen by killing his wife & kids so that the threats are gone. But because Stephen genuinely loves his family Eddie can't get enough time to act out the murder that Eddie wants. And Abraham writes Stephen as a friend so that when Stephen switches back to his normal self he won't be weirded out by suddenly seeing letters everywhere around him he gradually finds them and writes Abraham back once he's more aware of his egos & what's going on. And that's my logic & theory

The quote from 1940, "I am always afraid that the Thought may not come back home" seems to me to connect to Odin and his ravens, Huginn and Muginn, representing essentially thought and desire/ambition. Odin sends his ravens out each day, and he worries that Huginn may not return, though he worries more for Muginn. I dunno, I'm still only halfway through this episode, but I'm excited to see if the Norse angle plays out.

Ok theory time! On 9:26 we hear that Eddie suffers from a mild multiple personality disorder and a couple of seconds later we hear that the other part of his ego hasn't appeared yet but I think it has. Look at the little kids drawing at 9:54 there is a family and there's a black figure. I think that the black figure is the father's ego and the kid some how knows it (so it's kind of like a Jekyll and Hyde thing). If we go back to 9:26 it says that Eddie suffers memory loss so he doesn't remember anything his ego does. Now think back to Eddie's nightmare he sees himself killing his son and wife but the thing is he doesn't have and kids and he's a bachelor so his ego must have a wife and son so, in the last episode, when we hear the son say something along the lines of "daddy... daddy he's... he's here... stop him!" that means Eddie does technically kill his son but we don't know about the wife yet. (Good lord this is long! Sorry to take up your time but please tell me what you think and if there's something that I've missed)

I think the subtitles are different to make them easier to read as the person transcribing the audio has to take into consideration how long the player will have to read the text.
