I fell in love with this song when I first saw this video on the British show "The Tube" (MTV used to air the series back in 1984). Unfortunately for me, the clip wasn't fonted, so I never knew the name of the artist (he was known affectionately as the "Running Scotsman "😁). Fast forward 15 years later and I finally get my answer after watching a documentary on Parliament Funkadelic, recognizing their keyboard player Bernie Worrel was also in the video, and after a simple internet search of his discography, led me Jesse Rae! This song is still a favorite and brings joy to my heart nearly 40 years later. ❤

Unique. If you see this video only once, you'll never forget it. I first saw it in 1985 and it certainly made an impact on me. A few thoughts a. It must have been incredibly expensive to make, what with at least two helicopter hires in NYC and in the Highlands (but absolutely worth it) b. That gobsmacking timing over the Castle with the drumsticks flung into the air just as the helicopter flies past c. Persuading those mid-80s souls - punks, skinheads, dogs - to sing ''over the sea'' c. I still shudder whenever you risk certain death getting near to the edge of that bloody skyscraper d. The beauty of the wee lassie and her blue-eyed gaze It's a thing of beauty and I'm so glad it exists. Thank you!

There was so much good music featured on the excellent Max Headroom tv show, where I first saw this video. I remember being knocked out by the track when it played, back in the 80s. I’ve never tired of listening to it. A classic track… and a classic tv show. 👍🏻

I remember seeing this on TV years ago and went out to buy the record. Great footage of Eilean Donan Castle and the shots of standing on a mountain with a flag are breathtaking (how the heck did he get up there!) Didn't realise that Jesse was supporting Adam Ant, else would have made an effort to go and see the show.

I remember seeing this video years and years ago on some programme concerned in some way with pop videos of the 80s, possibly the 70s too. Only saw about half of the thing, I suspect. Various artists: Duran Duran, Adam Ant, Madness, and of course Jesse Rae. I don't recall the title, only that John Peel was one of the presenters. That's not important, though; just background fill. But somehow this video got lodged in my head and only now have I dug it out, rewatched the video, etc. It's the only way to deal with an earworm, besides passing it on to some other sucker. -- was that Bernie Worrell?! Having done a bit of reading up now, I shouldn't be too surprised, should I?

I saw that program too I think it was called Video Jukebox.
@slacknhash2 жыл бұрын
@@philjones1432 Just checked; you're right. Omnibus Video Jukebox, lasted 6 hours, co-presented by John Walters. About the history of the video, back to promotional shorts and sound films of the 30s onwards. Shan't watch it, though. I'd be about as comfortable watching that as something hosted by Dave Lee Travis or Jimmy Saville. But thanks for helping me fill in a gap in my memory!
