This was one of the songs I ran to the radio for in the 1980's......a fresh breath of air in the (What I then considered , my taste has become milder since the last twenty years) polluted smoke of synthpop. I can still get a kick out of this song and am just jamming along with my newly acquired electric 12 string. Still get goosebumps. Don't know why, the lyrics don't apply to me but it is the overall atmosphere of youth and exciting music that speaks to me still, How sadly Kirsty may have met her end, in her musical inheritance and in her vids she at least doesn't age.Very thankful for the fact I can still enjoy it with modern technology.

@@salmonesque- Are you sure? The guitar credit on this record is conspicuously missing and stylistically it contains many of Johnny's hallmarks. Whatever you may think about the guy it's a matter of record that he loved Kirsty to bits, and cutting guitar tracks for her as long as he remained anonymous is very much in keeping with his way of doing things.
@salmonesque Жыл бұрын
You know more about him than me but as a guitar player I'd bet my tele that he did not play on that track. I just don't think he has the musicality to have played those lines. I know that this is not in keeping with the reverence in which he's held but I don't think he could've come up with those parts. I researched track credits and it mentions a couple of guitarists but nowhere does it credit Marr so, I'm fairly sure. 1985. A great year to have been 21. Thank God we got so much good Brit music in the USA.

As a little boy in the 80's I have fond memories of lots of very 80's films like the John Hughes movies, weird science, anything with the brat pack, etc and I always loved the music. It came as a big surprise when around the millennium I was old enough to track down a lot of the songs of my childhood and found most were by British bands like Tears for Fears, Ultravox and The Cure. The 80's must have been the 2nd British invasion after the rock bands of the 60's!

@@krashd You forgot about OMD Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Their iconic If You Leave was in John Hughes movie Pretty In Pink.

This is my favourite song featuring Kirsty McColl to listen in the wintertime. Forget that other one.. the one with the drunken Irish guy.
@LoveAndKisses4Dannii Жыл бұрын
Fairytale of New York, that's my favourite Christmas song of all time. The drunken Irish guy is Shane MacGowan, from the Pogues. I'm not sure if you've heard Kirsty's cover of the Kinks' Days but that's another favourite of mine.

I only discovered this cover a few years back but straight away love it better than the original. So sad Kirsty's career didn't continue but her legacy is here forever.

The Champ of all time! Great singer! Pushed her children out of the way and died saving them! My lovely old mum would have doen the same for me and my two sisters! There are some amazing Ladies who have been on this planet. Long may their memories carry on!
