As an indigenous person, the social culture aspect of the enjoyment of tea is what I love! I too am doing my part to dispel the "ceremony" image of gong fu cha. As an artist, I appreciate the attention to brewing methos and experimenting with variables of the steeping process. I have a HUGE collection of jianzhan teaware and as well as few daqi pieces. Again, back to my indigenous roots and upbringing, its the organic portrayal of consuming a plant that is given so much respect in the cultivation process, to the consuming process. It CAN be "ceremonial" in a sense, but for me, it's taking the time to stop and pay attention to being fully emersed in your tea session. Being laid back, and sharing with others! Thanks for another great collab video!

Could not put it better myself friend, sharing a moment with my late Papa bonding over fine tobacco and enjoying the care put into a nice cigar as he taught me about our Indigenous culture are some of my fondest memories. Living life in the moment and sharing experiences with those around is such an important lesson I’ll never forget.

the ceremony image.. why would u want to dispel that? rituals are sacred. it is not a bad thing. unless you mean ceremony gatekeeping. it should be a ceremony between friends. maybe its all semantics XD
@samivayajd4 ай бұрын
@@housemana from a native cultural perspective, it can divulge into romanticism of that particular culture from those without full investment and only interested in aesthetic representation. I own a lot of Chinese tea ware, but I educate myself on the history and significance behind it. The materials and art forms, as well as the authenticity of traditional ceramics and other materials.

A rare tea sampler sounds amazing, something you could get 2-3 sessions out of the teas in it, to really celebrate or bring something special to share with friends and loved ones would be fantastic. It reminds me of the times I shared some really nice cigars with my Papa before his passing where we’d talk about life and he’d teach me a lot about our culture, we’re Eastern Band of Cherokee and tobacco was a very important of part of our heritage, and being able to pull something special out to show how much someone’s presence means to your life and share a meaningful moment with were some of my fondest memories with him.

A rare tea box would be very cool. I like teas I can save for special occasions, and old teas and whiskeys get more special with age. Eventually mindful consumption of the great drink becomes the special occasion itself. pluR

“Better for who” is a great way to say it too. Most expensive tea IS better than cheaper tea, but which tea tastes good to you isn’t really an attribute your vendor would use to price the tea as that’s entirely subjective which is why you can often taste your way through samples and find a tea that may be cheaper and also a better experience for you even if agriculturally it was cheaper to produce. I really only regard the price when it becomes either too expensive of which case I would be pickier or too cheap which would cause me to doubt the quality. But in both examples you could be wrong. It really comes down to many factors but the solution is usually just to try it and find out.

I might have visited one of So Han's shops back in 2019 when I happened to see it on Google Maps while I was in town. After some googling it looks like like that was under Guan Yin name! I bought two envelopes of some of the first real Chinese tea I ever had: tried to make some wonderful rare oolong in hotel coffee cups, using the lid as a rudimentary 'easy gaiwan'. Oh the memories!

So what kind of water would you recommend for teas spring, distilled or just plain tap water? Would the taste of your tea be affected if your water is hard or soft? I once read an web novel where an person would collect fallen snow from plum blossoms for tea water, not sure how realistic that was .. Then later came across some information about how Historical people would pair water from certain places to make their tea taste better?

I’ve got two questions for ya lad hope you’re prepared, do South or south east Asians drink tea with mint or any other flavorful leaf if so what kind of tea do they drink it with and what are there are the different combinations? I’ve been eyeing up sage for a period of time What are some tea snacks that south or Southeast Asians eat with tea? I get that you don’t want something that will drown out the tea flavours, i’m thinking about nuts and dried fruit and maybe some saltines

Is it normal for the black jasmine tea to taste kinda soapy? I just tried it from the sampler box, and I’m curious if that’s the flavor or if I did something wrong at some point.

Soapy is unusual - it has a funky scent and the jasmine is strong. If you see any issue with the bag or something you can contact teafriendsupport@jessesteahouse.com - haven’t had any other reports of issues with that tea though

Great show. I definitely had the same views on white tea, basically being water, until I tried higher quality white tea. Small historical fact check though: the birth of Jesus is likley between 6BC and 4 BC. (Based on records and rulers in power at the time). And there is a possibility (though unlikley) it could have been up to 2 AD. Also, there is no actual "year 0" it would have gone from 1 BC to 1 AD.

2700y sounds like bs to me. A tree that no-one is allowed to see?...
@tofuninja548910 ай бұрын
I mean it's more than possible. The tea itself isn't that old but the tree and strain of tree may be that long of a lineage. But I do get it as someone coming from the states. Like the idea that something is so ancient is something I have a weird time grasping because my country is only 300ish years old itself and that itself feels old. But in the grand spectrum of things that is super young in the world. So having an old tree that someone is holding onto so guarded doesn't sound out there.
