Epic video. I’ve only done the Kepler up to Mount Luxmore and back. I’d love to go through with a bit of snow like you did. Kea are such amazing birds, they’re very clever. Word is that they’re about as intelligent as a two year old child, or the average ten year old Australian.

Yeah we got so lucky with the weather. It was epic. Lol, yeah the kea are awesome but haven't seen any recently...

Hi there! What time of year did you walk the track? And do you think it could be done solo?

We did it in early June and met a few people doing it solo.

Hey Jesse, great video! I’m thinking of doing this next week but am a little hesitant to do it if there’s a lot of snow. How easy was it to follow the track with snow?
@JesseStLouis4 жыл бұрын
Was pretty easy because of the trail markers. Definitely check avalanche conditions with DOC and bring appropriate gear.

What month was this hike mate? Thinking of coming over in June and not sure how it will be weather-wise on these hikes? June or September, what do you think?

@@JesseStLouis any other good hikes you'd recommend which should be relatively safe ?
@JesseStLouis2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesscott1935 we did Kepler, Routeburn and Milford at the end of May/beginning of June. Depends on how much recent (if any) snow they've gotten. Always recommend checking in with the local DOC office to see about current conditions.
@JesseStLouis2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesscott1935 it also depends on the freezing level and whether you will need crampons and and ice axe (and know how to use them). If things are too icy on the tops Hollyford Track is a good alternative as it is lower elevevation. September would be more prone to avalanches due to snow accumulation over winter.
@pyingsien2 жыл бұрын
In which month did you go? im thinking of doing this May or June, do you know if its suitable?
@JesseStLouis2 жыл бұрын
Can't remember either late May or Early June. Depends on weather. Always check in with the local DOC office for current conditions.
@pyingsien2 жыл бұрын
@@JesseStLouis Thanks for the reply! Did u have to make any application or permits for the track?
@JesseStLouis2 жыл бұрын
No permits or applications, the huts are first come first serve so need to buy the Hut tickets at a DOC office and might need Plb, crampons, ice axe, avalanche gear/ training if conditions require it. We were lucky to be there for the first snow of the season so luckily none of that was necessary. Good route finding ability also is good when the track is covered in snow. You will love it!
