A theory on why you haven't found anything like Miss Peregrine's: My favorite books are generally ones that impacted my life somehow, by either presenting a new concept, or showing something a different way, or generally doing something that in a small way helped me grow as a person. As I grow older though, I have already learned a lot of the lessons or concepts talked about in books - especially YA novels. I still enjoy them, but they don't hold the same meaning or excitement they once did. I'm just not in the head space of a teen anymore. Now that I am a parent, I sometimes find myself gushing over parenting books, or novels containing people with babies and toddlers. I am deep in the baby stages with my kids, and that is what I relate to and learn from at this time in my life.

But then when I do feel like reading them it's just so annoying having to reread what I've already read! Also, I feel the same when I don't know what to read., sometimes I feel like fantasy but then sci-fi, but then maybe even mystery/thriller AND I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO

Whenever I'm in a weird reading mood and I'm having trouble choosing a new book I read something I liked before that is pretty short. And then I let those ooey-gooey happy book feelings follow me into a new book. I find that the happiness is usually enough to get me through the tough part of getting interested in something new.

Listening to music that goes with the aesthetic of the book really inspires me to read (this works well for books in a series) as it reminds how much you loved the series and gets you excited to read it Also, I get inspired to buy books because of booktubers (most of my books have been bought because of this)

Recently if I’ve been struggling with reading I’ve picked up a graphic novel, middle grade or old favorite. They are all super quick reads for me so it makes me feel accomplished that I’m reading without getting consumed in a long book that might keep/put me in a slump. Also once I start reading/finish a quick book I usually feel more motivated to read so it’s a win win.
@marawhite99295 жыл бұрын
Audio books have helped me with this exact problem and it passed enough for me to pick a book I know I'd like and then from there I was able to go back to my normal mood reader ways.

My absolute favorite author is Lois McMaster Bujold and her Vorkisigan series. You can really start any where in the series, because there is a timeline of each event w/out spoilers. The books have a plot and are very well constructed. My favorite two books in the series is Ethan of Athos and Memory. Especially Memory, for me, because it really emphasizes that our actions DO have consequences, whether positive or negative.
@Pendragon-zw6jl5 жыл бұрын
I always write every to-be-read book on little pieces of post it tabs or notes and i fold them up and put them into a raffle to determine which book to read next. With series, I always just put the next in line in to the raffle so that i don't end up skipping ahead. It really works well, especially if i stick to the book that i pick up to read. Plus, it also frees up some of the books that have been on my shelf for a long while. :)

Thank you! No one from my reading friends didn't understand why I watch and read reviews after the book. Some times when book is unknown for me I just saw who read it and how many points give it. This kind of helps me to pick it up... I don't even read the synapses. I watched book hauls or other videos listen what is book about and put it in my mine... Then I forget the synapses but remember the book and kind of go blind. But after the reading is done I search for the opinions and it's so much fun to find out what is thinking the other person in front of you nodding when you agree 😂

With Goodreads I read the synopsis first and if I’m still uncertain if I’m going to read it then I look at reviews and ratings. Also I’m so indecisive about what to read next I use a random number generator. I use it in two ways, one to definitely choose which book I should read by reading whatever book is selected and the second is to reveal my true reading desires as I keep hitting refresh to get rid of unsatisfactory choices till I end up with a book and say “yeah that sounds alright”.

hey I'm currently reading in my bed (well I was) and now I want tea because I saw your mug, anyway, what I do when I don't know what to read is taking the titles that I want to read the most, put them in a list and shuffle (a website does it for me actually) and then I just read the books in the random order that appears there, it's not a perfect system but it gives you a place to start, and of course, if I'm not liking the book I trade it for another that wasn't in the list or go to the next one, so I basically put them on a random order and go
