I've read 13 books so far and my initial goal was 25 this year 😅 I'll probably end up increasing it as I go. My favorite books for the year so far are The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, A River Enchanted, The Shadows Between Us, and The Wishing Game! My most read genre is YA fantasy but that's not a surprise. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on A Fire Endless (sequel to A River Enchanted).

I have read 16/40 books so far and have avoided at least a few slumps this year and I feel so proud of myself. Honestly, it is all thanks to you and some other booktube creators that I have regained my passion for reading. Also, your constant reminder that audiobooks are fine has helped me so much since it turns out my slumps are but a result of my ADHD and the audio format helps me change it up and keeps me focused!!

Don't live in fear, Jesse! You won't regret reading A Fire Endless. ❤ Mislaid in Parts Half-Known, however, was a disappointment. Don't let the cover art fool you, the dinasours barely show up in the book.

I love the “get a book from my library, and if I love it, I’ll buy it” mindset. I’ve had this mindset for a while- with some slip ups and random book splurges- but it has saved me so much money. I LOVE buying books that I love. I will never stop buying books. I am happy that this mindset has been working for you!!

Backing up the Jade City hype! Such an amazing series. So far, I'm at 26/60 books read this year and definitely also in my Fantasy era. Already found two new favourites in Greymist Fair by Francesca Zappia and Empire of Exiles by Erin M. Evans (both 5star reads!). But also, unfortunately, found two absolute duds within my most anticipated books of the year - Sun of Blood and Ruin by Mariely Lares (DNF) and Lore of the Wilds by Analeigh Sbrana (1star)

Yesss use the library! According to the storygraph my most read genre after LGBTQ (cause is that really a genre?) is literary, which is kind of a surprise to me, I don’t consider myself the biggest lit fic girly. After that fantasy, sci fi, and horror are all tied 😂

I am on my 58th book this year...but I am retired and have been having to lay low because of hip issues. Most of the books are 350 pages or more, but every six books or so I have been taking a breath w shorter books. As a result I have found Rachel Cusk and Claire Keegan.

I am not far off from where u are because I have read 55 books so far 😂, but I didn't expect to have that many read already haha... my year goal is 100 and I have a feeling I will need to raise that goal. Being unemployed right now I am reading, writing and doing a lot of voice acting and taking a course in voice acting for narration.

A River Entchanted is on my want-to-read list for quite some time now and your enthusiasm for it I think will finally make me read it. Thank you for that. I am in Germany and like to read books in their original language, when it is english or italian, because I think translations are always losing out, but this means i can't use libraries very often as , at least in my town, they only have a small section of books written in english and next to none books written in italian. So no saving money for me, unfortunately.

I'm on my 21st book of the year, which for me means that it's my best reading year so far. And for me fantasy has reeled me in, but I do need to diversify my reading with some lit fic or thrillers to keep it fun. Otherwise I get bored easily. Been thinking about a reading journal, but I'm afraid I won't keep up, just like you said hahah. Loved this booktag by the way! ❤

I'm also lucky to live somewhere with an excellent library system and it truly is wonderful!

2024 Reading Goals: *Finish TBR -* I don't normally set reading goals but because I only had 13 books left on my TBR, I did this time. I just re-entered my kdrama/cdrama *era* so it'll be slow from here on but I at least managed to read 9 of them already ^^ *Shelf Refresh -* I used to say I'd re-read ALL my books to convince my mum it was valid I keep them. Given the TBR's retiring, that lie gets to as well! But before I do it for fun, this year I want to make sure everything on my shelf IS what I love. I already did my full unhaul ages ago. But I kept a few series I liked as a teen that I wasn't sure hold up (reread The Raven Cycle in February for this reason but luckily I love it WAY MORE than I used to xD). I still need to check one more series.

for dinosaur book, I highly recommend Raptor Red by Robert T. Bakker, the author is a very well-known paleontologist and this "historical fiction" novel is basically a documentary about a female Utahraptor named Red, trying to survive the harsh harsh world along with her pack of family members (also her journey finding the right male to mate, we get a bit of romance right there, lol)

I've read 16/25 books this year, and last year I read 24/25 books so I am kind of proud of myself with this number so early in the year. Libby definitely helps a lot as I don't have accessible physical library near me, and my other goal is to go through as many physical books on my TBR as I can. I've dropped some books out of my TBR as I'm not feeling it and I decided to reassess my TBR on Goodreads, took some books out of it, and it feels really good. I might increase the reading goal this year which is something I've never done before :)

Not a booktuber but booktags are fun! 1: How many books have you read this year? 43..... my year long goal is 52, so like I might be a little overly obessed. I maybe need to chill a little. Lol. 2: I don't think Ive found my 2024 favorite yet, but I might be reading it this month (Braiding Sweetgrass!! By Kimmerer, I'm only on like chapter 3, but its Sooo good so far). My favorite that ive read so far thought is probably "The Secret Life of Albert Erntwhistle". It was sweet and well written with relatable characters but I also loved the themes of this book which included (just to name a few): Overcoming shame, unlikely friendships, you're never too old to change, overcoming shame, and more. 3: A not quite 5 star read: The Sentence by Louise Erdritch. I really loved it and would recommend. It has some magical realism, some excellent character studies/commentaries and I really like reading it. The only thing that might have prevented it from being a 5 star read for me was A) I wanted the pacing to be a little faster, and B) It covers the pandemic and that was maybe too recent for me. 4: A 1 star or least favorite read: Sea Change by Jorie Graham. This is a poetry collection and while I liked both Jorie's theme and style, I struggled to keep reading this after the first 5 poems. Her poems are dense in content and very complex. Which can be nice, but its every poem. Another reviewer mentioned that "all the poems are basically the same" and I really agree. It was like she wrote 1 opoem, like 50 ways. I just didnt have the energy for that and it put me off poetry for a while. Luckily Louise Gluck's really "candid" style is reviving me! 4: My most read genres currently according to Storygraph are LGBTQ+ and YA which are both tied for first followed by contemporary, then fantasy, then middle grade. If you're surprised based on my other book mentions so far its because I enjoy reading lower stakes and "fluffy" things in between all the more serious reads and LGBTQ romance is one I pick up a lot to give myself little "breaks" from the heavier stuff. 5: A surprising book: "Unapologetic, Reasons why despite everything, Cristianity can still make surprising emotional sense." By Francis Spufford. Yes, my reading tastes are that of a 50 year old British man. Anyway, I'm not Christian hence why this book surprised me. It was recommended by another non-Christian. And despite not being converted, I was surprised by how of a read it was. Spufford is relatable and approachable and it was lovely to read about how "despite everything" aka what he often refers to as "The human propensity to f_ things up", people can find hope and compassion (or to use a more Christian term, Grace) in their lives. And Spuffords approach to Christianity is tolerant, welcoming and accepting of all humans, which I appreciated. 6: A book that came out this year that I've been looking forward to. Honestly, I dont really pay attention to when things come out but one book thats on my TBR thats not crazy old is the Heaven and Earth Grocery store which I beleive came out last year. 7: Successful book Goals. Currently, I'm blowing all my book goals out of the water. Ill be hitting my yearly book goal this month, my audio book goal has already been reached, and my pages goal will probably be hit around June. Ive also been doing a TBR challenge every month and have been successful with each of those. 8: Goals I'm failing: I'm not currently failing any reading goals because I'm in my reading hyperfocus era and I tried really hard to not set unrealistic goals, BUT I want to mention that most of my other life goals, like getting more exercise and cooking more often are uh.... not going well. 9:New to me booktuber. This year, I discovered and have been loving Tristan and the Classics. His excitment is just so infectious. It's motivating me to try some Classics again which school sort of traumatized me away from.

I read a lot of short stories collections, so I do get the whole short fiction thing you are talking about. It is always interesting because at the end of the year my author count is always so much higher than the book count because of all the short story writers. As for your questions, mine may also be fantasy but I think a majority of what I've read has been horror or horror adjacent. Even some of my nonfiction has been such as Eaters of the Dead: Myths and Realities of Cannibal Monsters. I have been doing pretty well with my book goals. I am reading more nonfiction and I am reading more of a set of books which are these hardback foiled editions (Flame Tree publishing) that are collections of short stories. I have easily at least a dozen and I have only read a few. So far this year I have read or finished Haunted House Short Stories, Spirits and Ghouls Shorts Stories, and Science Fiction Short Stories. Currently I am reading Witches, Wizards, Seers, and Healers Myths and Tales. I have not done well on my 24 books to read in 2024. I have only read three, one which was a dnf. I am currently reading/have started three of them though. I have found a new favourite which is a nonfiction. It is Astronomy: Sky Country which talks about the Aboriginal people's knowledge of astronomy prior to colonisation on their understandings of it. It talked about how they passed down information and made connections between various stories and recorded astronomical events from other parts of the world. It also talked about light pollution and how it affects the native plants and animals in Australia, and talks about to combat light pollution as a whole. It is also talks about the debris surrounding our planet currently from satellites, which gave me information how we are polluting space as well as our planet. But it was excellent and I loved it, and I need my own copy because I borrowed my mum's. I may have found two more favourites but I am currently reading them and they are Roarings From Further Out by Algernon Blackwood. This is a collection of four novellas, so far my favourite and easily a new favourite of the year was The Willows. The other is The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo. At the very least I am very fond of this novel and it is going to be a five stars.

Technically if we include all the manga and graphic novels, I've reached my 75 book goal for the year; however, if we are just doing books, I'm a little over a third of the way to that goal, and I'm just as happy with my progress. My favorite book by far has been The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett; I've already read it twice in the past few weeks. I also feel like I'm in my library era/my love and appreciation for the library has been renewed. I recently quit my job and have been more conscientious of my spending habits, including books. I've been borrowing more and only buying books I've loved after borrowing or sequels of series I love a lot.

Oh man, my dinosaur book collection is finally paying off! I agree with everyone recommending Jurassic Park and The Lost World by Michael Crichton. Raptor Red is another great fiction pick (from the perspective of a Utah Raptor, and written by a paleontologist who was a subject matter expert for the Jurassic Park film!) I've also just read the first book in The Deadlands trilogy, which was a fun middle grade dino story. And if you're interested in classics, The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne, and Dinosaur Stories by Ray Bradbury are also options. I hope something piques your interest!

Lol, it’s never too early to have a book crisis! So, I’m reading my 120th book this year…… yes I’m that crazy person. In my defense, I’m on a semester break from school, so I do have a bit more time than I usually do. But, here are my secrets on how I do it. 1. Audiobooks. Yes, they absolutely count as books. I also listen to them at 2x speed and listen to audiobooks in place of listening to music. I have ADHD, so I constantly have to have something going on in the background while I perform tasks. I started listening to audiobooks while I was driving back in 2018 to prevent myself from going on autopilot and to help pay better attention to the road. Eventually, I started to listen to audiobooks outside of driving and got to the point today where (unless I’m working on homework or doing something where I have to physically read words) I will listen to an audiobook in place of listening to music. Also, I slowly started listening to audiobooks at increased speeds in order to not zone out to them as much and to get through them faster. It took me MONTHS of slowly increasing the speed up by 0.25 until I got to the point of where I’m at today, where I listen to them at 2x speed. Also, they now have Graphic Audio books, which are audiobooks where they have a full cast (I.e. one actor per character), but also background sounds and soundtracks. They’re motto is “a movie in your mind” and, honestly, they really are. 2. USE YOUR LOCAL LIBRARIES. Audible is great, but you have to pay for it and (from my understanding) can only get ten books a month. A lot of local libraries are free, you just have to sign up for them (again, usually free). Also, libraries allow you to check out and put on hold more than ten books at a time. I’m a student in a different state than where I’m from, but I have a membership for the library where I’m currently at as well as keeping the one that I have from my home library. Both of those libraries allow you to put up to 20 holds on digital copies at a time plus more holds on physical copies as well. Not to mention how many books you can check out that are available at a given time. Libraries are a life saver and allow me to read books as they come out so that I can then decide whether or not I like them enough to then buy them. Another thing to note is that a lot of libraries have books by small indie authors. You’d be surprised by how many small indie authors and their books I’ve read through my libraries. 3. Read books that you enjoy and don’t be afraid to abandon a book because you don’t enjoy it. This was a hard one for me to learn, as I feel guilty if I don’t finish a book. However, if you don’t like the book that you’re reading, the more likely you’re going to avoid reading it and spend more time doing other things. The more you like a book, the more likely you are to read it and go through it faster. 4. Spend less time on your phone and playing games and read/listen to a book instead. I know it’s hard, especially since social media can be addicting, but people waste hours just scrolling through videos and shorts on their phones (myself included). The less time you spend on them, the more time you can dedicate to reading. This next one helps me a lot, but doesn’t always work for others: 5. Keep an organized list of books that you’ve read this year and an organized TBR list. What I’ve found is that if I keep an organized list of books to be read in order and a list of books that I’ve read this year, I’m better able to figure out what book to read next and get through my TBR faster. Again, doesn’t work for everyone, just something that works for me. Hope this helps everyone and happy reading!

I have read 0 books this year so far. But I'm not stressed about it. I started to read Dune and I have to return it to the library in 2 weeks so that's not good. (Because I'm only 340 pages in) But my goal is to read it to at least to the point where the Dune 2021 movie ends. Today was the year I finally got out of my reading slump, thanks to Dune. So my only goal is to just finish a book.

Yes! I love that. I did a reading challenge in January that was to read 1 page (or listen to 1 min) every day. I thought it was a great challenge because it's really just about building a reading habit rather than completing anything. Finishing books or hitting page goals can be great, but I feel like sometimes the book community can be so focused on all the books they finished that they forget to enjoy the reading part of it.

I've never reached 50 books in a year before. Normally I get to around 40, so this year I decided to challenge myself with a 50 book goal... it's April and a few days ago, I logged my 49th book. Not sure what happened, but I've been averaging 14 books per month since January lol. Not complaining. Actually loving it😁 New favorite: probably the Extraordinaries trilogy. Read the first two so far (both 5 stars), but I'm hesitant to read the 3rd because I don't want it to be over😭 MC has ADHD, just like me, so I relate Not quite 5 stars: Song of Achilles. What can I say? It was really good, but just fell short of 5 stars for me. One star: I DNFed Howl's Moving Castle with like 2 hours left in the audiobook. It wasn't bad. I see how some people would like it. It just wasn't for me. In not a fan of books that dont really have a goal or character arc that they work through. Even something like Legends & Lattes, a cozy fantasy with low stakes, i liked because it was still working towards Viv's character arc and making the coffee shop great. But Howl's seemed to be a mish mash of random events that werent really connected with very littlw character growth. Gave it a DNF rating of 2 stars. I hear the movie is much better, so I may still give that a try Most read genre: fantasy in 1st with LGBTQ+ in 2nd and romance in 3rd Surprised by: A Darker Shade of Magic! Read the first 2. Last VE Schwab book I read was Gallent. Good, but not amazing. I wasn't expecting to love these books as much as I did 2024 releases I'm excited to read: A Drop of Venom, The Wartime Book Club, Bride, and Sunbringer, to name a few Goal I'm succeeding at: my book goal. I'm so proud lol Goal I need to focus on more: stop pressuring myself to read how others think I should rather than how I actually want to New to me booktuber: Brittany Loves Reading

The last days of the dinosaurs by Riley black, it’s nonfiction but it’s pretty short ( only 200ish pages) and it packs so much information in a short read. It really paints a vivid picture of what life was like ( as much as we can know) before and after the asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs. It made me go from mildly interested to very interested in dinosaurs lol.

I’ve read 3 books so far this year (and halfway into one) 😊 I know that’s nothing compared to most here 😅 but at the same time is the most I’ve consistently read as far as year update, so im proud of me (my goal this year is to read about a book a month)

I saw a book tuber that read somewhere around 150 books already this year. Apparently, like 80%+ of them were single volumes of manga, which is still A LOT of reading, but it made more sense than if he'd somehow managed to read 150 ~300 page novels. I mean, we're only 100 days into the year (actually exactly 101 days at the time of posting.) So could you imagine reading a book and a half a day? Crazy! My reading goal this year is 52 books. 52 because thats how many weeks there are in the year so my plan was to average a book a week. But, I'm averaging closer to 3 books a week, so I'm definitely gonna be hitting my goal. Lol

11 out of my 35 book goal for the year. Also, for dinosaur books, you should read Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton! It is so good! It's one of my favorites!

I've read 14ish books so far. I counted three books in one omnibus separately, because the audiobooks were separate. For similar reasons, I'm counting a six book series as three books, because that's how they're published. (Well, I will when I finish the second and third volumes.)

Maybe you should do your art reading journal as you prepare for your quarter reading crisis. Less pressure to keep it up constantly and a good way for you to see how you've done and how you feel about each book.

1. I have read 8 books this year. Almost 9. 2. Absolutely. Where sleeping girls lie by faridah abike iyimide. I'm about 3 quarters done, and I'm loving every second of it. 3. Pass. None of the books I've read so far fit that criteria. 4. Live and let die by Ian Fleming. If it's not the incredibly racist writing that will make you want to chuck the book across the room, then the fact it's so mind numbingly boring will. 4. Contemporary fiction. 5. I'm going to have to go with the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Because I didn't expect that book to destroy me as much as it did. 6. The girl in question by Tess Sharpe. I'm reading it after I finish where sleeping girls lie and I cannot wait to devour it. 7. I didn't make any goals outside of my reading goal. And I guess I'm on track to completing it, so i guess that. 8. Pass 9. Pass
