Exactly, they're not supposing anything, like Hilly would, that Minnie can and should choose for herself and they're reassuring her they'll respect it because they're genuinely grateful 🥺

It was a different scene in the book Spoiler alert! In that one, when Minnie arrives at their place, he does say that she has a job for the rest of her life if she wants and he's grateful but because Minnie saved Celia's life at the time of that miscarriage. Celia didn't cook for her. They just had a major breakdown together.

SO many emotions here. Minny being treated not just with respect and dignity, but as an HONORED GUEST, being served by the white couple she works for. And Celia, finally rising above the horrid treatment she received from Hilly and her pack of lemmings. I've said this on other videos, but I'll say it again here: those two women save each others' lives.

It kills me still, that after everything she's been through, even with that table of delicious food as a thank you from Cecilia, Minnie's first thought is to check that she hasn't been fired. The fact that Johnny jumps in to answer first is also very sweet, considering how nervous Minnie had been about him finding out about her working at the house for Cecilia.

0:41 Celia Foote's facial expression when Minnie asked "I'm not losing my job?" Just that expression shows her kindness as she was in disbelief why Minnie would even ask this question. Also, Celia Foote's husband, most men in those days were even worse than women when it came to descrimination and racism...Celia got lucky finding him, they match in their views, he is one of a kind.

God sends you Angels when you most need it. Celia was one of those angels in Minnie's life. I worked cleaning houses with my mom in middle school and high school. One of the houses was owned by a lady who was an angel, I thank God for her all the time. She treated us so well. Sometimes made us sandwiches, she paid for personal tutors for me, gave us Christmas gifts. She and her husband were very wealthy but always made us feel appreciated. There are some really good people in this world who treat others with compassion and love.

The beautiful music which accompanies this scene makes its own beauty twice as impressive! The warmth of Celia, the love of her husband and their affection for Minnie all blend together to make this the most poignant moment for me in the entire film. Celia was the most beautiful foil to Hilly and all the other women in this movie, because she was a REAL person; the others were phony, fake, pretentious and lacking in any kind of depth to their feelings.

There were a lot of family's who treated their help like family, the sad thing is we never really hear about them.

This was a deeply powerful movie all together and had some really hard scenes to watch.....but this BROKE me! 😩🥺😢😭The way Minnie had been treated so terribly and then get that kindness and gratitude absolutely floored me. All three actors were PHENOMENAL here.

I get chills every time she says "That's a mile high merengue, Miss Celia..." the affirmation Celia's been waiting her whole life for.

The thing about Celia is that her heart is always in the right place , even if the situation doesn't call for it or its misunderstood. And Minnie with all the weight of the world on her shoulders can still see that clearly. It's suggested here that Minnie rescued Celia, and that can't be denied, even her marriage she rescued. And Minnie helped Celia find her balance. And its suggested here that Celia is going to rescue Minnie from her man and give her a home in one of the homes on the property. I like to think of that outcome and help Minnie send her kids to school and whatever else they might need. Very powerful performances here and the whole movie. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Was Sugarditch a poor area? Hilly called Celia "tacky" because she was from that area.

I’m telling you, this scene is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen since this movie came out. I sob every time. Especially at, “Cooked it just like you taught me.” Ugh. God, bring out the Prozac.
