Thank you for this…and thank you for being aware with those who also with disabilities (like myself)! BUT, also put yourself and family first! I have a disability, too. (Severe Migraines too, and Trigeminal Neuralgia). It’s so essential not to push your body toooo hard and to listen to it! Please don’t over do it! Rupert (and Claudia of course) need you healthy so much more than we need captains and content! I made the mistake of overdoing it during our move this last week and am paying for it laying in bed for it with on and off face pain! Take care of yourself, Jess! Also, and I say this with all seriousness, if my mom wasn’t mom (she is wonderful): I would truly want you two as my moms/parents. It is so clear how unconditionally loved Rupert is- and he will always have a Loving Haven and soft place to land as he grows up! You both seem very intentional parents and, should Rupert have a disability, you would see him for more than his disability, ability to work and make money and that sometimes needs ext help help…blah blah blah-all Puritanical American Boomer ideals (unfortunately, my father sees me as nothing but my disability and had no idea who I am behind that. I don’t even think he truly understands what migraines are or even tries to…beyond a “headache.”). It hurts more than physical pain and makes me so very sad. I feel like a liability to him that has nothing to really offer him or the world (in his eyes). Thank God for my Mom, people like you two on KZbin, and my therapist! My dad can say very hurtful things-because he isn’t intentional in what he says. (Nor has he ever been-despite the fact that I think he loves me. I think my Grandparents did a number on him, too). Rupert is a very blessed and lucky baby. I’m glad you two chose to be moms! He will do so well in this world with all the love you give him! ANYHOW… on a side (side) note: My baby nieces loved the Baby Lit. books out there! Pride and Prejudice (for babies) is hilarious for adults, too! So is Moby Dick. As a former teacher, good on you for reading to him so early on, please keep it up! if is so so important for the beginning of his lifetime educational journey!

Honestly seeing you two talk about how Rupert’s learning about the world as he develops is a really neat perspective than how raising babies is usually talked about with new parents - usually they talk about how they can’t sleep and it’s almost like they don’t talk about how the baby feels about things? I really like hearing how he’s started noticing Claudia’s face when feeding etc, it just makes me appreciate how novel being a baby must be haha
@marli89073 жыл бұрын
I do think it’s a bit easier for them than the “traditional” person as they can make their own schedules. They don’t have to be up for work / school for other kids. Also, I think having two moms helps too. You’ve got two maternal presences.
@Boggythefroggy3 жыл бұрын
@@marli8907 yeah I do see that, I think you could still be more humanistic in your view towards your child even if you say have to work a lot, and also if you’re male - I think it’s more because the idea of raising children in society is viewed as very utilitarian and almost like completing steps instead of figuring out what your baby likes and dislikes personally if that makes sense..? I think it stems from more conservative views on child rearing overall. It’s definitely true that lower income families etc will have a harder time doing this sort of thing though because they just won’t have the luxury of ample time and money to raise your kids in this way. Also with many cishet couples the man is probably more likely to not view babies under this same lens, mainly due to the emotional problems that come along with mainstream masculinity etc. I think we would really benefit from raising our kids with more compassion and empathy though and hope more people do it in the future.
@Boggythefroggy3 жыл бұрын
@@nicolescats2 yeah I was actually thinking of that too, I’m Canadian myself so we have paid maternity leave for instance. I remember learning the first time how in the states there is no mandate for companies to provide paid maternity leave and it’s just awful. It really is just like you said, that childhood is more to be survived rather than enjoyed because of how that system is set up.

It seems like despite being disabled, Jessica put in more effort to help Claudia recover post-partum than most husbands do to help their wife. They also work from home. I am reluctant to judge parents who complain about lack of sleep (and sleep deprivation is no joke) or other things because it just is hard. Post partum depression and psychosis can be horrible, and that's not even thinking about the regular things like anemia and pain that almost everyone experiences after giving birth. It also seems like they got a very calm and happy baby! :)
@lisastenzel57138 ай бұрын
Now that you say it. Yes. True. I guess many people feel the need to get a baby for all the wrong reasons and do not see them as humans until they are a certain age. They don't take joy from seeing their child grow. And that's the sadest thing ever, and shows...how many many people are depressed without realising it. The world is sick of sorrows and trauma. My nephew was born just a few weeks after Rupert was born and I never got to see him. His older brother I did see a bit and his mother...really didn't get the hang of things. The boys are both not doing too well, from what I hear. It's heartbreaking. But when you are not the parents...you have to live with it. By you I mean me in this case.

Don't get too hung up on what's in the books, just take what works and ditch the rest. The best method is the one that meets your family's needs. :) )
@katherinemorelle71153 жыл бұрын
My kid was weird, they started sleeping through the night (from about 10pm to 5am) at about 3 weeks old. And it was then I decided that I’d never have another, because I’d jinx it and get a difficult baby. That’s what happened to my parents- I was super easy, slept through from about a month, fell into my own easy routine, never cried much, never got sick, apparently handled teething like a champ with very few issues. As my mother said, my brother is my fault- I lulled them into a false sense of security. “What are these people on about? Babies are EASY!” Hah. My brother was lactose intolerant and had colic. He didn’t sleep through until about 8 months old. Though I didn’t get off completely- though my kid was super easy as a baby, toddler and young child, as soon as puberty hormones started at 9, all that went out the window. They’re now almost 14, and making up for how easy they were when they were younger. My mum calls it karma for how difficult I was at that age (and I was similar- easy from the start, but at about 10, all bets were off).

They do change very quickly. My kid started rolling around the floor at 16 weeks. She could zoom all over the house and any time you put her down, she’d take off. She didn’t seem to have a purpose to it. She just liked rolling. But that was it-from that moment on she could never be left on the floor without someone’s complete attention.

I miss when my little 6 year old was a tiny baby. So cute. The little thing Ms like when she first figured out how to get off the bed by herself. When she first walked then ran. When she climbed her first bookshelf (yes that’s gonna happen). Her first time on a tree. First time a squirrel turned the tables and chased her. Seeing all these things are priceless.

When our kid was young, like, around 8-9 months, she asked to be picked up. Indicated I should go over where her sound machine was. Then she hit it. Hard. It instantly broke and she giggled.

You guys are so cuuute! You can tell you love baby Rupert so much when you talk about him, love to see it ;0; I've never heard a parent talk so enthusiastically about their baby before, it's so refreshing. You talk about him like he's a real person, and I'm just not used to children being spoken about in that way (which is sad). Sending all my love! You guys really inspire me and I hope I can be such a loving parent one day.

You two are looking so good for having a new born. I looked like a zombie for about a year. Edit: My baby didn't like the white noise at first then liked it later so don't completely write it off yet. They are constantly changing what they like. I just thought of it as a game. :D

This may seem like a weird question, but are you in the USA? Having joint paternity leave plus family that can drive over from quite a ways away in an emergency really helps with exhaustion. Parenting is still difficult in a supportive jurisdiction, but you don't hear the same stories about people who thank their deity that they didn't crash their car due to exhaustion on those first months back after FMLA leave. Americans brag about belonging to a company that offers more than the 4-8 weeks of paid leave common in the quarter of managerial/professional positions that offer paid maternity.
@westzed233 жыл бұрын
@@nicolescats2 They live in England. Maternity and Paternity leave is different around the world. Most have paid leave stipulated by government. I am not sure but the US is one of the few countries without paid government Maternity leave.
@nicolescats23 жыл бұрын
@@westzed23 I know they do, I'm wondering if that is the reason why they look so good for having a newborn compared to others. I was wondering if having a supportive leave policy keeps most people over there from looking like a zombie due to exhaustion, and if their level of tiredness is normal in their social circle unlike the social circles of many commenters. As someone in the US, I have no idea what two parents being involved in their newborn's life looks like, as over here one parent feels forced to pick up extra hours, or both struggle to split parenting duties into shifts, to cover the time the child isn't at daycare.
@westzed233 жыл бұрын

The white noise thing 😂 my first baby would only go to sleep with gentle, low classical music playing in the background at bedtime so I used to set one song on every night and within minutes they would be out for the count. Rupert is adorable batting his mobile about. It’s amazing when they find their hands.

Rupert seems like a wonderful baby, I'm so glad that you got a fairly easy baby, especially with your worries about your abilities as a mum. The clip of you signing with him while changing his nappy was unbelievably cute, he clearly loves it and you very much. He's growing up so fast, babies at 3-4 months are my favourite human beings on the planet! They're just starting to show their personality but still very much a baby that are (usually) happy to just be cuddled. I am speaking as a non-parent, just someone who is the go-to person for baby holding in my family and also works in a toyshop, where occasionally a tired parent will entrust me with their child while they browse.

As a mom to a 10 week old, I relate so much to this video! He’s my second so I’m definitely way more relaxed about it all (naps on the play mat? Sure, why not? Let his sister pile half her toy box on and around him? As long as his airway is clear, sure, why not?).

Montessori was SO wise! My godson (her son) was raised by my very best friend since we were eight years old. He is now 40. We are in our seventies. She was a Montessori teacher for children from infants to five years old. She kept a Montessori pre-school for 25 years. Her “kids” AND their parents STILL keep in contact with her. Her own son and his two sons have TOTALLY THRIVED! Congratulations for choosing Montessori! If you ever feel in the need of consultation regarding Montessori, she will give you wise counsel.

Watching this process has been such a mix of emotions for me. It's so heartwarming to see the care and attention you're paying this little person. Rupert is *such* a lucky boy. At the same time, it's making me realise how neglected I was as a child. There wasn't a single adult in my life that paid even a fraction of this attention to me and I'm really starting to mourn that loss. Thank you for this window into parental love, because I think it's been really useful for me to see.

It's SO wonderful to see your family. A baby will put YOU on a schedule; and you just have "read" what they are telling you--"no white noise machine, please!" LOVE that you are signing with your son--THAT makes it an all-inclusive home [as it should be]. You can see now how the sleeplessness and delirium has officially set in for both of them. Bless them. Jessica, will you be taking on another carer now that your maternity leave will be over? You're holding up pretty darn good but I can't help but think it would be a great help...and Claudia is just a champ. I swear pregnancy & new mom has never agreed so much with a woman, her whole aura is lit up even if she's exhausted as well. Rupert of course is doing great and adorable! Also, for the white noise thing. Keep it bc it may come in handy later, try soothing "Rainy Day classical piano or cello music", it even works on my DOG. It's super soothing and mellow. No crazy crescendoes or loudness yet variable enough not to be too boring or repetitive.

One of the first same sex couples I've followed to have a family was Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black, it felt so surreal to hear the news of the baby on the way and felt even more unreal when snippets of him had finally come up. Now, Robbie is three years old and I'm witnessing another couple I follow share their new life with their own son. As someone who has known they weren't straight for years, the fact that I'm approaching the depths of adulthood scares me. People talk about family homes and cars while I wonder if having a family is even an option for me. I'm bisexual and the option to marry a man and act heteronormatively is there, but that's not the entire me and I always think about the possibility of meeting a woman that I'd want to spend the rest of my life with. As someone stuck in the closet in a religious family and conservative country, I just look at you guys and it makes me super happy. It's couples like you and Tom and Lance that give me hope for myself in the distant future. Motherhood suits the two of you so much and I'm sure that Rupert will join a relatively safe sport as soon as he's able to choose. You're both glowing and doing great, I hope all the best for your adorable family!

Hi MJ! As a bisexual woman in my mid 30's;I was totally in that spot in my early 20's. I wasn't even sure if monogamy was for me. However, that all completely went away after dating my now husband. It just clicked that this person understands me, loves me for me, makes me feel uplifted, we have an incredible dynamic even when we argue, and i want to be a better person for them. I just stopped thinking about "what if's" with other people. We've been together for 11 years, and no regrets. I didn't even think of being heteronormative, because I'm still queer, but I have no interest in being with other people. (And this man doesn't fetishize my bisexuality and pressures me into 3ways like many men have). We are a goth/ alternative couple, child-free, and we love our 2 cats! He's not a traditional man who falls into traditional gender roles, and that's what I love about him. But that only came as a result of dating several men and women over time. I even tried the polyamorous relationship, the open relationship, but it seemed so much more trouble than it was worth, IMO. Every ex taught me more of what I was looking for in a relationship, and what I needed to work on so that I was a better partner. And truly, that's what the point of dating is. Good luck in your love life, and remember that you can't plan for real love. It will come in its own time, on its own agenda, you can either accept or decline.

I’ve watched so many family KZbin channels for so many years and your videos make me feel so happy. I love how not only are you respecting your baby and their privacy but you are teaching others that not everything revolves around the internet. It’s sad seeing kids of youtubers always film them growing up. I think it mentally drains children at a young age to be known as a kid of a youtuber and not having any privacy with your parents because people are so fascinated by your life. Also love how you are singing to your baby at a very young age because not many people understand that it’s another way to communicate with your kid even if they don’t know how to fully grasp sentences yet. Also i love that even through Rupert is still very young he has his own little personality. I can’t say wether it’s easy or not being a parent (because I’m not one ) but i love how you two are loving and caring people and try your best to be there for him and yet also let him learn at an young age to also be independent. Hope you both are doing well and much love to you both and Rupert 💗
