Love all the pieces! both the undergrazes and the glazes are just lovely. One question: isn't the part of the mug topper that remains on the inside of the mug unglazed? is that sanitary? those essential oils you are mentioning would permeate the clay, as it is still porous... If I wanted to glaze the whole surface of the topper, do you think I could put them on small stilts like the one you showed for the sweater pumpkin or would they be too big? Thanks a heap!
@JessicaPutnamPhillips5 жыл бұрын
The clay I use is laguna Bmix 5 which vitrifies at cone 5. That makes my mug toppers non-pourous and they do not require glaze to be food safe. You can glaze the bottoms if you want to and fire them on stilts. You may need to use two stilts per piece if the stilts are small.

I bet the cobblestone would look great with some deep sea on the top and seaweed over the deep sea to run it.

Can I brush dip on glazes?
@JessicaPutnamPhillips5 жыл бұрын
Yes, technically you can although they may be patchy. If you want to brush on your dip on glazes you may want to try adding a bit of CMC gum to it and see if that helps it go on smoother. Just mix up your glaze and pour out a cup or two into another container add your Gum(1-2 tablespoons per cup) and see how it works.

Loving all that came out of the kiln. I have a question about your chun, Is there anything I need to add into it to make it brushable or just brush it on out of the dipping bucket? Thank you!!!
@JessicaPutnamPhillips5 жыл бұрын
You can brush it on straight out of the bucket but it tends to be patchy if you do that. Clayscapes pottery sells it in brushable form but if you already have some try adding a bit of CMC Gum to it and that should help make it brushable. :)

I don't understand how you could stamp or scratch the complete bottom of a thrown mug so nicely without ruining it. It is really beautiful. Want to show us in a video?

Jessica this does not pertain to your video. What is your table made of? Do you cover it so clay does not stick to it, I would think it might stick to surfaces. I am setting up my studio and was curious
@JessicaPutnamPhillips4 жыл бұрын
My table is made of laminated pine and its sealed with a polyurethane. It is non- porous so yes, clay will stick to it. I always use a work board, or work mat/slab mat and never work directly on my table. The boards I use for working on are 3/4" birch plywood that have 2 coats of water based polyurethane. :)
