Well first ya gotta get them to want to live in the middle of nowhere. All the people with the money and the means to do anything left years ago. There are reasons for that. You can't rehab everything and some places just need to go back to dust.
@marianlincoln90086 ай бұрын

9:09 The C-54 missing its tail and left outer wing has an interesting backstory: Over two weeks in the winter of 1944, students at Maine Township High School, Park Ridge, IL, raised over $550,000 to buy War Bonds, and as a reward, this plane was named after the school, with the inscription _"Faster and Higher - That's Maine's Flyer"_ . The plane saw service in the last months of the war as a hospital transport. 75 years later in 2019, Len Johnson of the Park Ridge Historical Society was given permission to salvage parts from the plane's cockpit and returned them to Illinois to create a display for the Society's museum. He even repainted the slogan on the plane's nose - but that's now apparently graffitied over again.

Interestingly, even though it was named after someone's wife, but Lake Dolores loosely translates from Spanish as "Lake of Pains."

Funny, I lived in Eagle Mountain in the mid 70's, went to school there and worked at the one and only market, while my father worked at the Kaiser Steel mine. From the drone footage, I can still see my friend's house still standing on the main road going out. The place reminds me of a Twilight Zone movie in a reality show setting. Desert center was our main fuel stop before we would go to and from Orange County. Lake Tamarisk is all that is left when I stopped in 2007' We used to go to Lake Dalores in the early eighties as well. Due to injuries from the dilapidating water-park structures and fights caused by drunken idiots, we always had to sign a disclaimer just to enter the park. Good times!

Desert Center. I remembered my brother and i stopped by for Lake Tamerisk when he took me there the first time almost 8 years ago. Crazy it's on this list. We usually stopped by for a rest to Blythe from now on.

As a European this just looks so alien. Because we build real houses (as in : not cardbox and plywood sheds) this would rarely happen. The value of brick houses will always be high enough for some buyers/developers to repurpose the land/buildings.
@jessiesdroneadventures74643 ай бұрын
I don't think these homes were really built for the long haul. In my opinion, i think they knew the mine would eventually run dry, they just needed homes to get workers in there as soon as possible

For people wondering why Eagle Mtn hasn't become a 2nd 'slab city' its because it isnt 'abandoned', its owned and regularly patrolled. They are talking about demolishing the houses and then turning the pit into a landfill. It also is way farther out 'in the middle of nowhere' than slab city is. Those people dont have all that far to go to get supplies are have somebody bring them. If they lived in Eagle mtn they would be S.O.L and it would probably result in deaths from stuff like dehydration and medical emergencies.

In 1991 an older resident of "Newberry Springs" drove all the way to Browning Oldsmobile in Cerritos to redeem his $50 certificate to test drive the new-for-1992 Eighty-Eight. After the drive I asked him if he would like to purchase the car and he simply said, "I came for the $50!"

A friend and I were low on gas. We pulled into hollaran and they were closed. We were prepared to wait until they opened the next day. Next thing you know grandpa came and opened so we could get gas. Were are eternally grateful. We also used to visit lake Delores in the early eighties. It was a lot of fun. Camped right on the water next to the slides. Beer, weed and lots of bikinis. Also eternally grateful.

It's depressing yet understandable and pretty humane (life goes on, pal) that probably many of the places we enjoyed during our childhood and even present day... will end up like these. Good thing memories don't crumble to dust that easily.
