I'm on Sonoma right now, on a 2009 Mac Pro. I'm 71 and not a super computer nerd....it wasn't rocket science. On this computer I had to buy a METAL compatible graphics card - bought an old GX 680 on Ebay for 30 bucks and flashed the thing as described in a KZbin video - also had to upgrade the firmware on the computer from 4.1 to 5.1. Again, there were videos on KZbin. I think the best part was that I bought this computer, about a month ago, on Ebay for $49 and $36 dollars shipping. The thing is in great condition. I upgraded the RAM to 32 gig for about 30 bucks. So, for around $150.00 I have a nice Mac running the latest OS. Thanks to you and the other folks who provide these videos.

We have converted one Mac Mini 2014 and one MacBook Air 2013 to Chromebooks with ChromeOS Flex without any hardware upgrades or extra costs. The process took about half an hour and now these machines are snappier than ever. @@ukasz9086 that's because Bluetooth might not be loaded during setup - use a USB keyboard and maybe you need to plug a USB2.0 hub in between to force it to use USB 2.0 instead of USB1.1

Thank you for your reply yesterday Jessie. This was such a great video but I was met with a really formidable impasse. I'm using a Mid 2012 MacPro 5,1. I tried both, the USB Drive & the other method but upon restarting in order to get the Apple Boot Selector screen, I would get nothing but a black screen after restarting and pressing alt/option. I googled other solutions & alternatives but nothing worked. I tried clearing PRam but that didn't work either. Is there any solution or workaround for this? Best yet. Now I feel I understand which parts of the process are doing what. The key that I was missing is installing oclp to a disk installs it configured for that specific mac (or other mac if you tell it to with the architrcture selection). Now I feel I can override parts where neccessary, such as using an install disk on another machine by installing oclp for the target achitecture on that disk. This really is the first tutorial of the many Ive seen that explained that properly. Thank you.

Just installed Sonoma on my MBAir early 2014 13 inch using your instructions, got stuck in the middle with a black screen with the white Apple logo. Turned the machine off and started over and got back through with no problems. This is without a doubt the best tutorial to use on the interweb, very concise instructions that work. i bought a mid-2015 MacBook pro and used OCLP to upgrade it to Sonoma. i ran into some trouble but eventually got it done. it works great except that whenever i restart my MacBook, it goes into the boot launcher (you know, where it asks you what drive you want to boot into) but it only lasts on that page for a few seconds before going into MacOS proper and it works like normally after that. i only have one drive in my MacBook and i don't press anything for it to launch into the boot launcher. i'm brand spanking new to all this so i'm just wondering if this is normal.

@@Voaq I don’t recommend Macs older than 2012 to install Ventura or Sonoma. Maybe try Big Sur, but there’s also always the risk something doesn’t work and you’ll lose your data if you don’t have a backup ☝️

Really great tutorial. I have a 2009 5,5 that I had already upgraded to Catalina not using OCLP, so it was not up-gradable using this technique. I used a blank SSD mounted internally and booted off the Catalina drive connected through an adapter. Everything worked fine up to the point of installing OCLP on to the USB drive. It would not detect the flash drive. What made it work was connecting a USB 2.0 hub.

Hi i recently updated to sonoma 14.5 and im stuck on the loading bar halfway, i am able to log in and access everything in safemode. it runs so nice and clean, i have all my files and everything still. I also did the patch update/reset on opencore legacy, and ran a first aid on the disk, but when i restart the device, it still gets stuck on the loading screen halfway when booting up. Been trying for hours now, man i regret upgrading i cant seem to undo it. I would resort to using it in safe mode, but i shows an ! Symbol on the wifi icon. I have a macbook pro 2012. Also if i try to reinstall the osx in recovery mode, it gives me a totally different type osx which im afraid to even touch because i feel it will support my device even less and lose everything.

So just got through installing using "easy way" on my iMac 10,1. Used a USB 3.0 hub so was able to have mouse and keyboard during install, and until Root Patches were installed. Eventually everything booted and iMac is definitely usable. One question - Bluetooth will not work. The button to turn it on is enabled, but after I turn it ON after a few seconds it turns off. So cannot use my bluetooth keyboard. UPDATE - NVRAM reset did the trick !!!

@@ATHARVAGAMER01 So like I said, do a PRAM reset. On Intel Macs, CMD+OPTION+P+R right after you turn on the computer. Supposed to hold on to those keys till you hear 2 chimes. Hi Jessie Thanks for the video. I followed the steps until the step where I have to reboot. I kept the control key to choose the EFI as the default, showed the release note (in the right bottom corner), hit the return key and let it reboot. However when trying to install Sonoma Version 19.4.02 (19402), it give a message "macOS Sonoma is not compatible with this Mac". I have a MacBook Pro9,2 and have installed OpenCore-Patcher, it showed the correct model in the Patcher window. Please advise.

Hello sorry to bother you I was just wondering if I go with method 3 and get up to the Reboot to apply can I press ignore then do a Shutdown and Remove the Old HDD and put in my New 2tb SSD in and then turn it back on while holding down the Option Key and carry on with the the rest of the steps and also should I remove all partitions on the SSD leaving it blank and unformatted as it would normally come before putting it in the MacBook as I have already used it a little bit in one of my windows laptops but I did format it in the file explorer on my windows laptop but I still think it would need to be properly wiped (all partitions removed and unformatted) for the best stability for the installation and I was also wondering if you could help me out when I go to dual boot Windows 11 I can let you know what model and everything else if you want but I just have to wait for the MacBook to arrive in the mail it should hopefully be here sometime early next week thank you very sorry about all the questions

Best way is to create a USB drive and replace the SSD. Them boot from USB, remove all partitions in the installer and do a clean install from USB 🚀

@@JessiesFlying Thanks Jessie for the prompt response. I am using 13,1 iMac 2012. I successfully updated to Sonoma 14.5 (though it took a while and lots of reboots). The only change I made during the whole process is that I kept ethernet cable connected to my machine and eventually it all sorted itself out. After installing the root patch to my mac disk I restarted the machine and again it took 3,4 attempts to get into Sonoma. I was thinking of updating KDK but since I am using opencore legacy patcher 1.5.0 so I didn't do that step. In a nut shell, all good for now and I hope it remains that way. Lastly, great video and easy to follow steps.

Hi! Thanks for this video! I have and imac 2013late 21”. I change de Hdd for ssd and the 8g of ram to 16gb. It work great, it open all the apps and dont freeze it there are some delay but nothing to die. But this is important to know, if you want to install sonoma on you imac-mac you need to have at least IOS HIGH SIERRA to proceed with the update. if you dont have it ,the Open core legacy patcher will not run the sonoma system update. I have an older 2011 27" iMac (12,2) - I know your recommendation is 2012 and later, I do have 16gb memory and replaced the hard drive with a 1TB SSD. The last supported OS was High Sierra - and I have bootcamp running Widows 10 which I was planning to remove. I know the graphics card is non-metal - so there will be functionality loss. my 2011 iMac runs latest Sonoma fine, just all maps don't work (also in photos and weather app) and sometimes Safari freezes the iMac for about 30 seconds - but the rest works...

I don't get bluetooth keyboard/mouse running and performance is slow (browser freezing, opening programs opens a smaller windows with small icons and then slowly increasing the size). Ventura was almost fine but as said, I even can't install this anymore...ho to go back to Ventura as fallback? the message after booting from USB stick was "can't install old version on new one" (or similar) Thank you

@@JessiesFlying I was not able to get bluetooth running. The general performance was also pretty low with freezing macpro for 1-2min. I did a roll back to Ventura. Here everything is running fine again. Not sure if I will wait for further updates in future to try it again, but as everything is running now, I might keep it as long as possible. Thanks Jessie.

May be I have to delete SSD before (It has two users)? Anyway, I am going to try to fix it. Someting has to be wrong, because Installer says that a 16 gb USB is small but also that a 256 GB external HD is small too. I will keep you informed. Answer: If you try to create a USB installer on a Mac which HAS NOT backup drive selected for time machine, when you are erasing the USB for installing sonoma, system activates the question “do you want to use this drive for time machine?”, and just at that point you receive a message saying the drive you are using for installing sonoma is too small (you are said you need 395 MB more), it does NOT depend on the size (same happened with a 16 GB USB and with a 250 GB external HD) Hovewer, I am just now trying Ventura, and it seems to fit. (in order to create a USB installer, but regarding not able to install system, same problem, it says my mac is not supported) May be the reason is I am using version 1.5.0 of Open Core Legacy Patcher?? UPDATE, finally I created an USB installer on a 256 GB external 2,5 HD, and to erase HD and reinstall Sonoma on a “clean” HD seems to work, but I have other Mac in which I want to preserve all the information. I don’t think that a recovery via TimeMachine from that different macOS versions will work… if you want to to preserve your data either do a manual backup and recover the files manually or try to update macOS more and more (and do a clean install with recovery of the old macOS is something during updating doesn’t work)
