California usually can handle rain. The problem is there has been severe drought for so long, coupled with the forest fires, makes the risks for major flooding and mudslides much higher than it would be if California hadn’t been in a severe drought for so long.

My husband and I were trying to get home to Wilton Saturday Night. We ended up going the back roads and ended up in Galt. ,( below Sacramento)The road we were on went from 6 inches of water to 4 1/2 feet in less than 10 minutes. We had to be rescued by the Wonderful Wilton Fire Dept. It was dark by then and the water was above my waist inside our F350 4x4 Truck and the water was up to my window. We had to wade out of 4 1/2 feet of very cold, rushing water and we very, very thankful to be alive. It got pretty close. We had about a foot left before we drowned! Thank You Wilton Fire Dept. for saving us!

Jessica, I saw the news reports about bad California weather that's happened as we've eased into 2023. The Atmospheric River has happened multiple times during & after the holiday season. I learned about the Bomb Cyclone. I'm from the Eastern Time Zone. I started a new year 3 hours before you did. On the 4th day of the year, the weather stormed in Georgia. I'm phobic of thunder and lightning. My house wasn't destroyed. I didn't lose power. There were multiple tornadoes in the South.

I loved when the boys made up this whole dance just to beg to play video games. Me and my two friends did that twice, one for a sleepover (it worked 😂) and the second time to go shopping (it worked) I think it works because it makes the parent laugh and see how much fun their having and just say yes but idk haha! Girl try Living near Galveston Texas. The minute a major storm comes near the gulf storm prep starts. We generally prep the non essentials first and when we know when and where landfall will be imminent we do final prep. My parents are selling their crystal beach texas home because it's too much stress at 65 years old to worry about. God speed I hope all went well. Love your channel!

I live in ca too and in my town it rained 31 days in the entire year. It has rained 1/3 the amount in January of 2023 as we did an entire year in 2020! Our schools are outside. Our houses are not raised.

I still love the round Tablecraft condiment squeeze bottles. The red ones are only for ketchup. They yellow ones are only for mustard. The clear ones are for any condiment. Party City usually sold the bottles many, many years ago. More bottles are found at "Bed, Bath & Beyond" and Big Lots. I still have 4 empty clear bottles that I can still play with.

I live in Galt, Ca. & was supposed to be on the 99 but my plans were canceled due to the nasty weather. I literally got chills when I saw the flooding that occurred. My heart goes out to all who unfortunately got caught up in the terrible weather/ flash flooding & to the 3 who lost their lives 😢 & their loved ones. It feels so surreal to me, you hear about this happening in other places, but when it hits home it's like your in a huge nightmare pinching yourself to wake up. I live off of twin cities by the 99. It was the First New Years Eve without electricity & was literally pitch black, couldn't see a thing, in the whole town of Galt due to the power outage. It was the first Year we didn't get to see the ball drop on T.V. I'm just so very grateful that our plans were canceled. I'm happy you and your family were okay & safe. I just love how you are so involved with your kids, making these beautiful special memories with them ❤️.

I spent my NYE in 2019 (going into 2020) in both incredibly drunk but also in the middle of a catastrophic bush fire, im Australian, the massive fires we had that summer were awful, on of then was like 20 mins from my house. Luckily I was fine. But ringing in the new year like that was definitely memorable. We had to have the windows open because it was extremely hot (as Australia usually is in December) but opening the windows ment letting in the smoke..

We get those alerts on the tv all the time but luckily they are almost always wrong 😂 they use it for severe thunderstorms, Blizards, flooding, high winds and all that stuff we have the beeping from the tv and like a million phones I hate when they do it on repeat one time it was 1 alert liturally 10 seconds later another one for another reason so the house was very Loud

I'm surprised we haven't gotten any shelter in place alerts though. I have been getting the alerts for the wind advisory and flood alerts though. Either way we have been staying indoors with the storms.
