Oakridge Boys in their younger years. They wore the long black sideburns just like Elvis. Duane had said that they were not accepted in the gospel music industry because they sounded too country and rock a belly. The country music industry because they were considered gospel. But thanks to Johnny Cash he helped them to find their place in music! Now this many years later they have enjoyed decades of music success. Thanks Boys for sticking it out and given us some of the greatest songs and music this side of heaven!

I can see that. That was NOT a typical 1970s church atmosphere in this video. They would have been condemned for drawing too much attention to self with all the flailing of the arms and Jazz/ Rock chords being played on the electric (Rhodes) piano.

@@juancarlosmontes I grew up going to southern gospel music concerts in the late 60's and 70's. A lot of southern gospel groups flailed their arms like that at concerts, even in churches. Most of the group members did have the real short hair back then though. Here is an example from the 60's of one of the major southern gospel groups.kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXWum51ueN6AbaM My mom used to joke and say that they were not allowed to dance, so this was the closest that they could come to dancing.

The group was pretty famous in the 50's and 60's in Southern Gospel music, but they had different tenor and bass singers and a more conservative look. I loved their sound in both the older group and the newer group. When they got the new tenor and bass singers was right before they went country. Here is a clip of the older group. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nF6ol6CQjbmIp5Y

They were in concert in Valdosta, Ga. at Lowndes High School in 1971. It was one of the best gospel sings I ever attended. The bellbottoms and porkchop sideburns bring back a lot of memories.
