Actually, I get so tired of people that come up with these crazy Ideas. J didn't exist so because of that the pronunciation is wrong. . . You are not linguists, I'm not either, but language is interesting, so 0 as a concept didn't exist until it existed, does that mean something like the concept of nothing didn't exist before a symbol for 0 started to circulate? Our alphabets have been evolving for thousands of years, after speech evolved over longer time then that, it was with writings that sounds in part could be written down, it expanded as people could learn to differentiate different sounds, so while j might not have existed, the sounds for e, i, j, y might still have been in circulation and even used the same symbol, just look at Hebrew for one, the symbols have been changing in order to emphasise the many differences in sound one can make from one pronunciation of a symbol, so in order to teach a more coherent language, it had to evolve and expand, much like every other language had to, I'm a native speaker of Swedish, we have å, ä & ö, that's only a few countries that have these symbols, and use the sounds they make, you have some languages that use click sounds. So while j might not have existed, the sound most definitely did, and that's why the greeks and other scholars had to create some kind of differentiation for a reader in order to teach, otherwise one would read hi, hy, he, hj, when reading a text. Do you comprehend why they came to be now?
