@Mr.DC.1914.1 First of all, your argument is disingenuous. The Hebrew word "sar" can have many different meanings, but it never means "angel". It can mean prince, or captain, commander, leader, ruler, official, governor, chief. That makes it pretty clear what it actually means, and it definitely doesn't mean angel. It's a broad title of authority. Jesus is called the "Sar" (Prince) of Peace. Michael is called "has-sar" (the prince) "haggadol" (great), "the great prince". You could make your argument from this passage for the Spurgeon view of Michael, without falsely applying meaning to words that does not actually apply. I think the case that Mike made is much stronger, but at least try to make your case with honesty and integrity.

My understanding is that what SDA teaches is, in part, based on verses in the book of Daniel, e.g. Daniel 10:13 and 12:1. It's been a while since I've listened to SDA teaching on the topic, so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I am left wondering why Jude would have Michael say "The Lord rebuke you" (Jude 9) if Michael is Jesus. I think there's been some blurring of the distinction between symbolism and reality on the part of SDA teachers.

I know this is not in the right way to get an answer to a question, but I would really like to know the answer. I have a form of blood cancer and also quite serious liver disease. My husband is currently in a nursing home and wants to come home very badly. The thing is he meds 24/7 care and I really don’t think I can provide this. I need treatments every 2 weeks to keep my platelets at a safe level. If I stopped taking the treatment my platelets would drop to a very dangerous level and I doubt if I would live long.i love the Lord and have been blessed in so many ways. I am at a place where life has become very hard. Would it be a sin to stop my treatments and just let nature take its course. The last thing I want to do is go against God’s plan for me and my husband. My death will be devastating for him.

Hi. I’m sorry you are going through this trial. It sounds like bringing your husband home is just not an option, sorry to say. I’ve seen full-time caregivers destroy their own health until they can no longer be caregivers. No doubt you are a great support & comfort to your husband where he is. I would think it’s best if you do what you can to build & sustain your own health first, & then you can support your husband in whatever ways you can. It is so helpful to one in a nursing home to have visitors & have an advocate for them there. Blessings to you.

I will pray for you brother. I lost my father today a year ago to suicide. There's not a single day I go by I don't remember him; eat in remembrance of him and love him. There was a quote, from an ironically a pretty bad movie, named kingdom of heaven. Although the movie is flawed in it its depiction of Christianity and Muslim crusades, this stuck with me. "How can you be dead when you're in my heart?" I think of the way papa David reacted to Saul and his son Jonathans death. He told the people, do not scorn the king, for he was God's Elect. I promise the Lord will keep his to you and your father. As he did even mine. My father was flawed, but not enough to shun Jesus from his own gift. Grace, to his Children. And children. I grew up Baptist then I went to some non-denominational churches, and then I found myself in a charismatic church, and then I finally found myself in a reformed church, which I seem to have found more truth in teaching than the other churches that I’ve been to, but I still do not agree with everything that they have and hold true to like pedo baptism. Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for studying the scriptures before you speak. There may be a few things that I don’t agree with you on, but I may agree with you later on about or you may change your mind about that’s the beautiful thing about the living Word and the Holy Spirit.

My cousin is an Seventh Day Adventist. I don’t know where he could have come across this certain point of view(My assumption is writings of Ellen G White), but he says that Jesus lowered himself to an angelic form to better understand the angels, like He did with us. Of course, there is no scripture to support it, so I didn’t believe it, but it was interesting.

For reference, I'm a former SDA who was raised SDA, went to SDA schools, the whole 9 yards. That is something Ellen White wrote (I don't have the citation handy), but not necessarily something an SDA is taught. I was taught Michael the Archangel is in fact Jesus, but also that Jesus was fully God. Now, that sounds more like the John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon, John Calvin side Mike mentioned in his video. Deep down, it's actually more akin to the JW view. This is because the early SDA founders were all Arian or semi-arians (James White, the husband of Ellen White, Joseph Bates, Uriah Smith, and more). Ellen White claimed to have divine inspiration that the pre-incarnate Jesus and the Father had physical forms that were distinct, that the Father "conferred" sonship upon Jesus, and this made Lucifer jealous. That jealousy is what spirals into the fall (think Paradise Lost). For Ellen White, she seemed to use more Trinitarian language after her husband died, but she never claimed "light" on the subject and held to her writings as having an "unbroken chain of truth." In my view, she was never truly Trinitarian because her claimed inspired writings do not invoke the one-ness of God in substance. The fact that her writings CAN be seen as making Christ lesser than the Father makes her "prophetic gift" dubious at best. Some SDAs see the Trinity (or at least the current SDA attempt to align its statements with Trinitarian thought) as heresy and/or compromise with "apostate" churches. In Adventism, any non-Adventist church is considered apostate in some way. Mostly because most churches gather on Sunday. Even with Seventh Day Baptists, it's because they believe in eternal hell or reject the SDA investigative judgment. Anyway, there is a small, but growing, group within the SDA church today that wants to go back to the SDA founders' semi-arianism. They make a compelling case to many of the most committed members because every SDA founder who mattered even a little bit to SDA history is on their side. The institutional church knows it can't justify the heresies of the founders or reconcile them to the Trinity, though not for lack of trying. The attempts to do so are to make SDA look good to evangelicals. Even those are mealy-mouthed statements that sound Trinitarian to Christians and sound non-Trinitarian to those SDAs who oppose the Trinity.

@@rayrayuc2014 "That is something Ellen White wrote" Former SDA here as well. It's not something Ellen White explicitly states but it something that can be deduced from her writings. For example she says, "The King of the universe summoned the heavenly hosts before Him, that in their presence He might set forth the true position of His Son and show the relation He sustained to all created beings." (PP 36.2) “Why,” questioned this mighty angel, “should Christ have the supremacy? Why is He honored above Lucifer?” (PP 36.3) "Leaving his place in the immediate presence of the Father, Lucifer went forth to diffuse the spirit of discontent among the angels... The exaltation of the Son of God as equal with the Father was represented as an injustice to Lucifer, who, it was claimed, was also entitled to reverence and honor... (PP 37.1) "they [some of the angels] were dissatisfied with His purpose in exalting Christ. These stood ready to second Lucifer's demand for equal authority with the Son of God." (PP 38.3) While not explicitly stated the implication here is that the angels did not recognize Jesus as of a different category of being as themselves and of the same being and essence as the Father. This can be deduced from, (1) the reason the Father has to explain it to them (2) Satan can desire the position of Christ. That desire can make no sense if Satan understood that Christ was is the same category of being as the Father. This is clear in that the Father's position is never misunderstood or coveted. It is always that of Christ. (3) even after the Father clarifies the true position of Christ, the angels still don't understand that clarification to be that Christ is the second person of the trinity in all of the Father's glory and essence. This is seen in that Satan still wonders why Jesus should have that honor and authority above him. And persuades other angels of the same. To be fair, White does state in that same chapter that this "exalted position" (her words) was something Jesus had "from the beginning", "before the angels" so if the SDA wants to argue the trinitarian model applies then this would just suggest that the angels before the fall had a major distorted view of who Jesus was. Because their thinking and attitudes while ascribing to Christ a very exalted position of power and authority, do not seem to place it on the same level as the Father. In any case there is certainly an angelic incarnation of Christ in White's writings.

If the Angel of the Lord is Jesus in the old testament, how is it that Gabriel, a mere Angel, is also called "The Angel of The Lord"? In Matthew 1:24? Would that not also be elevating an Angel to an improper status, the same as you argue for Michael?

Read verse 20. It says AN Angel of the Lord, not THE angel of the Lord. There is a big difference. The verse you are speaking of is just the proper grammatical way of speaking of something that has already happened. Joseph did what the angel of the Lord told him to do. It wouldn't be proper grammar to say, Joseph did what an angel of the Lord told him to do. That's why it's clarified in verse 20 as AN angel of the Lord.

Interesting thing about Michael and the angels in his army fighting and defeating the red dragon and the angels who joined him is that it goes to show that Satan is no more powerful than any of the other angels. The Lord could in half a second defeat Satan with but a word, but I think His letting the holy angels defeat the fallen angels, it is to prove a lot of points regarding the angels, and to send a message to Satan that he can't even win against fellow angels who maintained their estate in the Kingdom. Jesus inherited the title deed to the universe, as expressed by the 7-sealed scroll that He shall open. From thence, He also shows that He bought everything back by claiming His rightful throne. The Millennial Reign shall be but a prequel to displaying what eternity shall be like. It's really cool stuff, all by plan and design.

Conversely, a word is as good as its owner. Jesus said "… for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” [Matthew12:34]. From these we may conclude that somebody who is good as his word will have his word as good qualitatively as himself. The purity, truth, goodness and integrity of God's Word are the same as the purity, truth, goodness and integrity of God himself and hence the phrase “the Word was God” as in John 1:1. I think Mike makes it clear that claiming Michael is Jesus is (although initially plausible as a suggestion) NOT provable based on a complete consideration of the Biblical mentions of Michael, and that in fact, there is sufficient context to rightly conclude only that Michael is indeed NOT Jesus. I grew up as a Jehovah's witness but never accepted their teaching about Michael. It is not as foolish as claiming Jesus is Jehovah (as the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints claim) but nevertheless an example of lifting unbiblical human theories as if valid Bible interpretations.

My understanding of 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 is that it points to the earths’ harvest in Revelation 14:14-16, the separating of the wheat from the tares. First comes the rapture and then the wrath of God. The angel does ‘shout’ to the Lord to harvest.

@@yasaaley easy, god didn't fully reveal the full identity of the Angel of the Lord to early jews. revelation was progressive it unfolds. but even then we see the angel of the lord having qualities that no other angel posses this is by no means exhaustive - god says to jacob "do not anger him for he forgives sins" ( werid since only god can do that, and later at christmas when he incarnates he comes for the forgiveness of sins ) - god sends him to part the red sea ( read it again slowly you'll notice it wasn't moses or God but the angel of the lord ) - not the strongest evidence but this surprises ppl - god tells us that the angel of the lord has gods holy name in him, again weird since having a name in you in meant you shared a nature - Jacob prays to him - jacob wrestled with him But Jacob was left behind alone, and the Angel wrestled with him until morning. And He saw that He is not prevailing against him, and He touched the broad part of his thigh; and the broad part of Jacob’s thigh grew stiff while he wrestled with Him (Gen. 32; Hosea 12:2-5).…thou hast prevailed with God, and with men shalt be powerful. Spurgeon was not saying that Jesus was ''just an angel", a created being. He was saying that Jesus is from everlasting, but that when Michael the Archangel appeared, that was really Jesus. And God does appear as the "angel of the Lord", like when He wrestled with Jacob, and said Jacob had "wrestled with God, and prevailed." It all depends on whether you are thinking of angels as a certain type of created beings, or you are emphasizing that "angel" also means messenger. God can be his own messenger or prophet, when He wants to. But He is not a mere, created being when He does.

Why all this confusion about who Jesus is and who he is not when he did everything to inform the simple who he is? It is all because of men failing to accept the message of Christ as children. Jesus tells us in no uncertain terms that the Father is greater than him and by your theology you conclude Jesus is equal to the Father. Jesus tells us the Father is his God and by your philosophy you insist that was a temporal situation of Jesus being in a human body, forgetting that a person remains the same person irrespective of what clothing he puts on. Mike, in reference to Jesus‘s cry of command. In military tradition, A company (large variable number of troops) would be arranged according to their stations, and broken down according to rank and position into the smaller platoons, and even squads. A squad is run by their leader in their “rank” or line, a “guide” would hold the flag symbolizing their platoon. The platoon sergeant would be separate and apart from the platoon, and reports to the platoon commander, who then reports to the Adjutant Officer. And the adjutant officer addresses the whole assembly of platoons as a company. (If you wanted to go bigger; a group of companies is a battalion, and a group of those is a regiment) more officers, more staff. Important to note, there’s typically always a band that accounts for rhythmic commands, and sounds for commands. Such as marching drums that keep the cadence of the march. Horns for positional commands such as flanking, halting or charging. (Think of the Rohirim in LOTR) The Adjutant always reports to the Commanding Officer, who is always distinguished by being out in front of everyone else. If there is a superior officer to the commander, such as a king or a prince. In our days the president they would report to him, and when he would give the commands, the officers repeated and pass down those commands. And when required, the band will sound when it’s time to make movement. So thinking of this in military perspective makes a lot of sense, considering they’re referring to this in warfare terms. I agree that Jesus is not an angel but then I get semi conflicted mentally when I know that angel means messenger and also that an angel of the Lord exists. a-god amid of-us is the literal translation of Emmanuel which is constantly being quoted as "God, with us". What is translated worship is actually bowing to, which is also used the same for bowing to men etc. There is no indication that Jesus is God to be worshipped, but only that he is Master. We have one God, the Father, and one Master, the Christ. just as 1 Cor. 8:6 states clearly without ambiguity: "yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him." As every Bible scholar KNOWS: "the Hebraic word [often translated as] "worship" is to bow down before another, whether God or man" - it does not mean what our English word "worship" does. It is right to worship the God Almighty alone, but the Hebrew word often translated as "worship" is far MORE often translated as bow down or do obeisance to, to prevent suggesting that we should worship a man or men etc. The quote "Let all God's angels worship him" comes from a dead sea scroll variant from the Masoretic text, but that Dead Sea Scroll variant actually says: "Let all gods bow to him". Psalms 97:7 similarly says: "Worship him, all ye gods". The angels are sometimes referred to as gods, and the God Almighty is referred to as the God of gods, so these are consistent with one another, and not inconsistent with the Bible at all of course. Of course, Psalms really says "Bow [low] to him, all ye gods."
