Thank you Brandon, I was just skimming through youtube and saw your video and when I read the title I was part curious and mainly part terrified. I've had my ups and downs in my faith with The Lord. A lot of backsliding, something changed this last time for me for once after renouncing sin I believe The Holy Spirit opened my eyes. Now the desire for the old ways are gone the very thought of them makes me uneasy and sick. I surrendered myself my life to The Lord. Best way I can explain it is when the Holy Spirit was upon me, really made the verse "Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved" hit home. Now I'm on fire filled with Holy Spirit and my life is now solely on serving The Lord, our God is an awesome God. Praise the Son of God The Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. I agree with what Brandon says, but I believe it goes even further than that. When there are people in our spiritual house or family or congregation who are willfully sinning and causing others to do the same, it is our duty to cut them off before they lead innocent souls to literal hell through their deception. The church is also called the body of Christ. In Matthew 5, Jesus says, "for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell." We are all members of the body of Christ. And we do what we can to lead all in life, but when there are "cancerous" members who willfully sin and lead the weak astray, it is our duty to cut them off from the body of Christ. Paul advocates for the same thing in 1 Corinthians 5. It is our responsibility to protect those who are weaker in the faith from the who walk in rebellion. The willful sinner who misleads others must be expelled. Of course the leaders can and should keep contact with that person in the hope that they will repent. But they cannot be left to contaminate the innocent and vulnerable.

Yes! I always took this to mean : I am a sinner -and i must strive to be as much like jesus as i possibly can . However , the master knows we cannot be like him due to our carnal nature . He is making a pointed remark to STRIVE as much as possible with all your might to resist sin - and renounce it . I have been doing just that regarding this exact passage for a while now. In that same chapter of Matthew 5, Jesus directly says the righteousness of the Pharisees is not enough for salvation. He's effectively saying they are misleading their own congregations with their outward application of the Law, but their refusal to deal with the heart of sin. I fully believe what Jesus meant by saying, "cut it off," is this: When there are people in our spiritual house or family or congregation who are willfully sinning and causing others to do the same, it is our duty to cut them off before they lead innocent souls to literal hell through their deception. What you said about surrounding passages assumes that you are taking it from Mark. But what if you take it from Matthew instead? Then you won't have those surrounding passages any more. In Matthew the verse about cutting off your hand comes from sermon on the mount, which is relatively close to the beginning. While everything else, including the little child, is much later.

Yes, it was easier for the priests just to tell the illiterate whatever they wanted, but that was never the official policy of the church itself!

I did not understand it as a literal hell, but if one was to offend a fellow believer by causing them to stumble at the word, means that our actions of misdeeds and misinformation misunderstanding of Gods word through those who have rightly divided the word of truth, we can pass on those erroneous teaching and cause a ripple effect inadvertently I hope. What I do and what I have done, has and will have a ripples effects not just in my life but in those around me and so forth.....WOW Believers of Jesus Christ that so nothing but play eat and spend their time in the pleasures of this world more than seeking God and sharing what is found from seeking will effect themselves more than we realize and effect those we may be trying to witness out of a none Christ fully fulfilled walk of faith in this life and may very well have rewards taken in the next life. In other words do what we can to seriously repent according to Gods grace and goodness not according to the versions of repentance and forgiveness that we typically have made it of. Yes you! Thank you for such a great and important eminder. It gives me renewed inspiration to have Jesus work and be displayed thru my life and actions. I need this powerful reminder a lot because I get lazy and although I feel the love in my heart I don’t always do it in order for Christ to be “seen” or experienced thru me. That’s spurring me on to get back to “our Father’s work” to make His Name, The name of Jesus , be known and honored in His Earth , blessing those who are thirsty and hungry looking for God. ❤️

Wow pastor! It really does look like you did 'misread' the bible. Attachments keep us from coming close to God. Most of the time we are so attached to temporary things, hence the analogy with body parts. He says even thought you are attached to some relationships, possessions and privileges, as though they were part of your body you have to cut them off. We have to be free of attachments. It's similar to the rich young man who went away sad when our Lord told Him to go sell all that he has, give the money to the poor and then come follow Him. The rich young man was sad because he knew that he had finally heard the truth that leads to eternal life and yet he was not ready to follow it. It's as simple as that!

When I was growing up, attending a Congregationalist Church, this particular message troubled me. I knew there was something off about it, but at the time, couldn't tell what. Of course, I had no intention of cutting any part of my body off, no matter what it did. But that was only part of it. It didn't really sound like something the Prince of Peace would say. Now I'll grant, when dealing with unsophisticated and ignorant people, a little hyperbole is often necessary to getting a superior point across, but this idea of sacrifice was an idea firmly embedded in the Jewish culture, of which, the apostles were also a part. And the idea of there being a hell, was a purely man-made construct, completely inconsistent with Jesus' message of our Divine Father-friend loving us completely. But the apostles had been raised with the notion that God must be feared, and that fear was the beginning of wisdom. So they were only partially able to incorporated the idea of a loving God in their ideology. They never made it all the way there. And Christians today, remain mired in that bog of half-love-and-half-wrathful when it comes the characteristics of God. Jesus tried to tell is apostles not to mix his teachings with the older scriptures because they were incompatible with each other, but they didn't listen. [don't put new wine into an old wine skin] Then I found out, that when we're resurrected, we're put into a new body made of morontia substance (partway between material and spiritual). We don't "enter heaven" with any part of our old body. And that it is our motives that are the primary determinative factor for being resurrected, not what any part of our body has done. If I look at a woman and consider what knowing her intimately would look like, or just appreciate her beauty, and yet maintain a hands-off approach, respecting her completely as a human; so long as that momentary lustfulness never translates into inappropriate behavior, no one has been harmed. The whole bible is examples how to put our FAITH in practice. When the perfection of Jesus Christ is available to you, you need knowledge of how to REST in this perfection. If your hand touches someone or something that will make you sin. Like someone else wife or drugs, etc, touch not handle not. If your feet take you places where you know you're going to sin. Like for me, it was the clubs, liquor stores, and some family and friends' houses. We must shod our feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. We must allow God to order our steps accordingly to his Gospel Samething goes for our eyes what you're watching porn or lusting for the flesh or material possessions. That's how I look at the scriptures. We must die to our fleshy desires and become obedient like little child. We're a new creature. What we would do we don't do. Amen!!

I assumed Jesus was talking about sin in that passage and how egregious it is to continue to sin and then to die in your sin. Whatever is causing you to sin, even if it was a body part, turn away from it immediately. Amputation while it is extreme, it is really diminutive when contrasted with the prospect of spending an eternity in hell. The imposition of hell is not only real, it’s indescribably horrifying and permanent. Thank you for the video.

Good job Pastor Brandon, you do a proper job of reading the Bible in context. One can easily get confused by reading verse only. It’s important people studying the Bible know it wasn’t first written in that fashion. You also tie together the Old Testament nicely with Jesus’s words as he would do. After all he is the word and the word is Christ.

So many get so hung up on sin they forger to walk in victory. You see, you will sin, period, no matter who you are. As long as we are in these bodies and until Christ return. So many falsely believe if you have sin in your life you will be condemned to hell. That literally preclude nine out of ten ohe'll. You have to start with what is sin, it is literally anything outside the will of God in your life. That changes things allot. Next we must understand Jesus took all your sin to the cross with him. He does not have to jump back on cross everytime we sin. You are literally already forgiven. This is not a license to sin, we are to strive to walk in Christ footsteps and strive not to. We are forgiven, but the evil one attacks our minds, filling us with guilt and everything in between. Trying to destroy our forgiven walk in victory. When we confess and ask for forgiveness we rid ourselves of all that garbage. We must remember what God gives, including our salvation, no man can take away. Don't get hung up on sin, get free through Christ sacrifice. It's like those who argue we must suffer through great tribulation. I really do not understand this. So like Christ went through everything, including trip to underworld and we are described as his wife and they think he wants us to suffer. It is like all common sense left them. No real man, husband, would throw His wife to the evil one or have them suffer. Like they all forget his sacrifice for us. Anyway, much love. Don
