@@tomdobby8625 hey, I got rejected post-interview from Oxford. But I didn't take A-Levels. I am from India. I am predicted a 97.5% at the ISC. That is equivalent to 44/45 IB or A*A*A*A*

I may be slightly late to the comments but hi! Stressed law interviewee here :) Thank you so much for breaking down the stigma surrounding Oxbridge admissions processes and the true matters of what tutors look for in a candidate. In preparation for my interview I have been preparing to the best of my ability, though a question popped into my head and I thought I’d ask here given the fountain of knowledge that you are - is there a likelihood that the tutors would ask a question regarding the content of my LNAT? Particularly, the essay section? Seen as it is written work in that it showcases my thoughts and writing style, but it is not something I have necessarily seen since the time of me sitting the exam. Thanks in advance! P.S. Your desire to improve the field of education as a whole and generosity in sharing fundamental advice, information and resources is just a representation as to why students so desperately want to be part of an institution like Oxford :) I hope to see you climb even higher up in the field of education and implement rules and policies to influence the academic field as a whole!

Thank you for your kind words! No, it's not likely that you will be asked questions based on the LNAT. In the unlikely event that you are, the interviewers will remind you of what you said! But, honestly, I think it is a less than 1% chance.

Hi! These videos are very helpful. Thank you! I am applying to Oxford law in October 2021 and I was supposed to attend a course for students applying for law in order to get familiar with the language specifics of the subject but due to the pandemic it didn't happen. Most probably this will not be possible next summer again and I don't find similar one on one courses online. Do you have any suggestions as literature or courses for example that you find to be helpful? Thank you in advanced ❣️

You’re not expected to have a detailed knowledge of the language of law in advance of studying it. It is not required to have ever studied the law to be a competitive applicant. Nonetheless, a good place to start is to look for academic journal articles, or case reports and make a search for any terms that you come across that are unfamiliar.

Hi! I’ve got my first interview quite soon, and I was just wondering if the interviewees will take stuttering/hesitation badly? I’m quite prone to using filler words or saying “um” - and I know the general advice is to “think out loud” but I’m worried that the more stressed I become the less articulate my answers will be. No, don't worry about that. It is common to be nervous and hesitate/stutter. You can stop to think in your head for a second or two, if you feel you need to gather your thoughts before speaking.

In the end, if the interviewers ask if you have any questions? How will it come off if I ask them "Is Mathematics about solving old problems or asking new questions"?

The interviewers won't have time to answer such a deep and interesting question! When they ask if you have questions, a) it's not necessary to have a question, and b) it's more to help clear up anything you may be unsure about as regards the admissions process.

Politics pre-reading is likely either to be a graph describing data for you to interpret, or a short piece of text about a political phenomenon.

With the “can you define intellectual property”? Can I say “yes, but I think the real question is should we:” then begin to explain the downsides of defining intellectual property?

Good question. You need to stick to the question posed, which is at root a question about literal interpretation.You could then, if it seems appropriate, pivot by interpreting "can you" to mean "is there a coherent moral framework to define intellectual property". But, you shouldn't pivot away from the question without prompting from the interviewers.

Hi, thank-you this video is so helpful, but I just have one question. If I were to misinterpret one of the words of the question, would the interviewers help get me on the right track? Say for example I misinterpreted the word ‘political’ to mean something purely relating to the government or parliament, this would make me unable to explore the true complexity of the Girl Scout question. In this situation, would the interviewers help me redefine the definition of ‘political’?

Yes, for sure. The interviewers' job is to help you perform at your best. It's worth noting that they will not likely think you have misinterpreted a concept, but will encourage you to think about alternative interpretations.

Thank you for your message! Yes, the test is for anyone wishing to apply for law at Oxford and several other British universities. It is not restricted to British students only.

It depends on which jurisdiction you hope to practice in. To become a lawyer in the UK you can actually take any degree at Oxford. If you take law, then that's the quickest route into the profession. Otherwise, with any degree you can take a law conversion course (one-year postgrad) followed by a law practising course. You would then need to look for jobs in the immigration sector, either as a solicitor or barrister. Best of luck with your career plans!

I was just wondering how important are GCSE’s specifically after applying on a gap year with your A-Level results (wanting to apply for law but mine are incredibly low, but hope to achieve A*A*A) will my GCSE’s still weigh in as an important factor to determine my future academic potential or will they be wholly discarded as My achieved A-level grades are now a more helpful indicator in the admissions process for Oxford? I prefer the law course here but I’ve heard they care more about GCSEs than Cambridge and feel as though I shouldn apply they’re next year as I could just be wasting my hopes on Oxford.

Find something that interests you and become a bit of an expert on it. Read around the subject, delve into its various recesses, think critically about how the issue can be untangled. Make sure you enjoy yourself. Successful applicants tend to be those that are having the most fun whilst learning!
