I was 18 years old and spent 4 days and nights on the hill overlooking the festival site.The nights at the end of August were chilly and all I had was my fathers World War Two army blanket.However it was amazing to be looking down at the lighted stage where The Who,The Doors and Hendrix were performing.Despite Jims death the following year The Doors continued to tour and I saw them again,with Ray on vocals,in Copenhagen in April 1972.Soon afterwards they disbanded.I turned 70 just a couple of months ago but The Doors remain my all-time favourite band.

Hey, I was up on that hill too! Near the metal fence line that was ripped down for shelter. The night the Who did all of Tommy and then Hendrix performed was unforgettable. I swear they threw Melanie on stage any time no one else was ready...Was at Woodstock the year before but I gotta say this was better.

He had quite the interesting insight to the counter culture of the USA back in the 1960's. He also had an interesting insight into the way a certain part of the music industry would evolve in the future that turned out to be very accurate in regards to the way the electronics industry would change the music world (and the Big/Small Screen (movies and television shows).

King, Ray Charles, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Totto, Dire Straits, I think nothing else, but I agree with the comments that mention a beautiful time learning music lyrically, without technology without cell phones, time passed very slow and friendship and love were more authentic. What can I say about The Doors that hasn’t been said before?. They were and still are THE BEST GROUP EVER!. John Densmore was a Superb drummer who was so clever, so precise. Ray Mazanek was a keyboard genius!. He also accompanied Jim on vocal backing. Robby Krieger an absolute fantastic guitarist. And I just loved the way he shadowed Jim Onstage. And last, but not least Jim Morrison singing vocals. A music genius!. I just love Jim!. He was an exceptionally intelligent man. With an IQ of 149. His gravely rough, edged voice and his high pitched screaming in songs when warranting sends shivers down my spine. And his smooth and yet quite romantic at times, voice when certain songs required it, just melts 🫠my heart ❤️ Jim incorporated “Theatre Arts” with his superb, articulate Poetry. Jim had a degree in “ Theatre Arts”, that he studied in University. When Jim and Ray put The Doors together along with John and Robby as a group they never thought they would ever become Icons And Legends. But they DID and are still very much Icons And Legends. Jim wrote some outstanding Lyrics. And Light My Fire became an over night success and right up until the last of the three passed away, are known for that catchy meaningful song. John Densmore is the only living member of The Doors, still alive today. He is now 79 years old and has become an established author. When you watch musicians perform whether it be playing an instrument, or singing you don’t realise until you watch them perform how clever they actually are. And so very talented. A lot of hard work and dedication goes into performing, touring and staying on top. I just loved Jim’s outrageous antics onstage. A lot of it was part of the performance, but there were times when he was completely out of control. But his fans loved it then and we love it now. Jim wouldn’t be Jim if he wasn’t that way inclined. Everything about Jim fascinates me. He’s so Charismatic The Doors are the Epitome of true” Artistes!.” The preeminent performers of their era. Today their music is NOT out of date. Thats only my opinion some people will beg to differ. And that’s fine with me. Like Elvis Presley. When he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show only allowed Elvis to be filmed from the waist upwards. He must have felt a deep sense of anger, but we will never know how he felt. Jim Morrison was a fan of Elvis, he said this of Elvis “ Quote” “ He Was The Best There Ever Was!.” And Deserved His Recognition!.” “Unquote” . And said not in Jim’s words, but something ,to this effect . That it was Elvis who paved the way for other Artists. Because he defied all the odds against him. And did what naturally came to him. Which is very true of Elvis. Did you also know that Jerry Scheff also played bass guitar with The Doors at one time or another.?. That’s a fact. But it was when stone faced Ed Sullivan went backstage to meet with The Doors, for the very first time, Jim wasn’t impressed. In fact he was so ANGRY. He looked at Ed Sullivan as a “Stuffed shirt”. He didn’t like the way Ed Sullivan said they looked good, but needed to smile more. And when Ed Sullivan asked Jim NOT to sing the lyrics “ Girl We Couldn’t Get Much Higher” part of the lyrics of Light My Fire. Jim fell silent, His anger welling up inside of him, into a rage like a volcano ready to erupt!. He went out on to the stage and Ray began playing the keyboards and Jim broke into the song he went, as bold as brass with a straight face of contempt for Ed Sullivan . And stood tall and sang “ Girl We Couldn’t Get Much Higher!.” Ed Sullivan was furious and said he wouldn’t have the guys back on his show. “ High” , was inappropriate for a family show on National Television. Because of its association of “ILLEGAL DRUGS USE”. But why should Jim change the lyrics of a song that was popular and had already sold millions of copies?. Light My Fire quickly went to number one on the billboard charts,after being released. The whole idea of going on the show was to promote the group, The Doors manager booked The Doors, for them to appear live on the Ed Sullivan show in the Autumn 🍂 17th September 1967. The group had become active, prior to that in 1965. Jim had a very tumultuous stage presence, but a magnitude of presence. He sure did draw in the crowds of youngsters. They went ballistic for his appearances live in concert. They loved him and hungered for “MORE!.” With his boyish charm and cheeky smile , Jim won them over immediately. He payed hard and worked hard. Even smoked a cigarette or joint onstage. Everything about Jim made him the most wanted man of the group. He wasn’t at all vain,in fact when he first appeared at The Roadhouse he would start off singing with his back to the crowds of people, because he was quite shy. And he would sing a lot of the time with his eyes closed. It’s a well known fact Jim had stage fright!.Jim was a Sharman and would perform his famous Sharman dance onstage and jump high in the air and scream this high pitched scream this was his famous “ Trait.” It’s what defined Jim. I’m 67 years old and have been a fan since I was 8 years old!. when I first listened to The doors and followed their success and enjoyed it for six years of listening I was hooked. For 59 years I’ve been a fan!. Jim always wanted to be remembered for all eternity. And The Doors will be remembered for exactly that. They will live on in our hearts ❤ and minds. 🤔Their Spirit will live on Eternally. It’s so sad that so many videos are archived!. There are a couple of videos of The Doors full live concerts on You Tube, but also a lot of the same only with still video photos. And music. Which is not half as exciting than watching them live. We want “MORE.” Of full actual live concerts to actually be able to see our guys in action. I blare my music of The Doors out every day. I’m enthralled by them. Every time I watch the couple of concerts I have saved of them, I learn something new about them each and every time. There MUST be a way that we can get to see more concerts here on You Tube?. If any one knows PLEASE tell me how we can go about getting these Videos shown. I’ve noticed most of Jim’s provocative videos have also been taken down by You Tube. There isn’t a group today, that could match them. Our groups of the 1960’s are the best that there are in my mind the “ Creme de la creme” “ Artistes” that have put their hearts and souls, into becoming successful. Jim Morrison has certainly, left an impact on us ALL. His dedicated fans. I am PROUD to say I am a fan of The Doors. Jim Morrison, would have written so many more fresh lyrics, had he still been alive today. And given us many more electrifying performances onstage. And his writing of poetry, would have given so many people many hours of pleasure reading. I’m sure too, he would have written many more books compilations of his life experiences. Got married and had children. But sadly his untimely death prevented that from ever happening. We love you Doors and Thank You ALL for the Legacy you left us. Rest in Peace God Bless you. Especially you Jim. Amen. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹😘😘😘😘

Same story here. I got completely sober around 2010, after many years of hard drinking and drugging, not real hard drugs, never heroin or crack, bit of blow and acid in my teen years. It’s amazing how many people fall off when you get sober, isn’t it. It’s fine with me I always hated being around drunks, even when I was one, I could hold my booze with the best of them. As you get older the hangover lasts longer and it’s not worth it anymore.

But its hard to say if that woudlve even helped. morrison was smart & head strong, those types are very hard to help.... he honestly wouldve done very well transition wise into media behind the scenes. whether it was screenwriting, film production or writing. he had the brain for it... sad loss & wouldve continued to make an impact if he couldve got more grounded. the film scene in the '70's was perfect for his artistic vision.

This in 2023, im watching at the age of 40, amazed by how advanced people were back then, in the use of, extracting sound from real instruments, the digital sound is too perfect, played by a looper moving along like a clock, it doesn't slow down, to accommodate the humanness of not being clockwork, machinelike. Perhaps just the times they were in with the music tech at hand, i don't think the vocals can ride on a looper in the case of doors thou, great use of sound taking it to the max. Totally a breath of fresh air. People are imperfect and nothing is perfect except for AI running on a programme, back then you had to talk to eachother but in these times we talk to AI but its important to never forget that it can only take a human to understand another for where we take life towards.

People romanticize that shit. It’s four guys working at their job- a job well done. Talking about how high or troubled he was is just bullshit- deeply troubled people couldn’t get anywhere near pulling this off- they are professionals possessed by the muse. The rest is just intrigue and hearsay
@danielclee4148
@danielclee4148 3 жыл бұрын
@@brokenpremise Thank you for your comment. I do believe Jim Morrison was a deeply troubled genius, the other members were not. Jim's life of excess and self destruction is testament to this. He managed to 'pull it off' for years and even wrote the first two albums while homeless and living on tinned beans and acid. Your correct in saying we romanticize this and perhaps we shouldn't. He still inspires me and millions of others. As for 4 guys doing their job....were they bricklayers or something? They never did a job, they were artists and performed. I recommend you watch final24 Jim Morrison on KZbin.

What I love about the great bands from the sixties is you never confused them with other bands, The Doors didn't sound like any other band, Pink Floyd, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Stones, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, they all had their own thing there were no Greta Van Fleets of the world that aped other bands sounds to the point of being a tribute band. Now there are so many bands that are derivative and watered down by perfection, the human element is gone, and the idea of being original is harder cause so much music has come to pass, it's hard to capture what those bands had and still do.

Well, there are a few artists who've managed to create a niche for themselves who are truly gifted and technically great such as Joe Satriani, Extreme, and Eric Johnson. Unfortunately, we have a record music industry that thrives on mediocrity in order to make a quick profit. Hence, artists are hard pressed to succeed in such a mess unless they have a loyal enough following that Artists can afford to tell record companies to go to hell such as Rush who recently retired.

This is just incredible concert footage. I remember the moment a friend came over and put the Doors brand new first album on a turntable and turned up the volume we were all totally spellbound and blown away by what we were hearing. What an amazing time for music and the Doors were a big part of that. I was lucky enough to have seen them once at Winterland. I still listen to them now 55 years later. They were in perfect alignment with each other.

I was at the Doors show in Moscow in 2013. There were Manzarek and Kriger. Also they brought a guy looking like complete Jim Morrison (!!!), as for appearance, as for voice! Impression was like at this filmed show, though I was only 13 then I and lived behind the Iron Curtain in USSR... Thanks God, I had a possibility to listen to alive "The Doors" (though with only two from the real group...)

Wonderful. "Light My Fire" sounds like a radical version of "My Favo(u)rite Things" (the Sound of Music song by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II) on this live performance during the instrumental section! The extended solo arrangement is performed throughout the keys of A Minor and B Minor, the same chord progression used by John Coltrane on his cover version of "My Favo(u)rite Things". According to Manzarek, the instrumental sections were an homage to John Coltrane whom the band admired greatly.

Aside from elvis, he had IT ALL, sex appeal, voice, charisma and danger factor, legendary genius. Jim was the next American frontman since elvis 10 years prior to be an American icon. Great looking guy on top of that. Can anyone name an American singer at that time that was better than Jim? I can't. After Jim iggy pop, then who? Until the 80s. Jim is a true rock God , one of a kind. Such a lyrical genius, he had it all, even one upped elvis cause elvis didn't write his songs. But, imo Elvis is the king and Jim is the Prince. American rock is the genesis of rock, FACTS.

While I didn't attend the show myself, The Doors played the high school auditorium around the corner from my Mom's house in SoCal in 1967. The first album was released and "Light My Fire' was already a mega-hit. The Little Rascals (Love That Dirty Water) opened for them. Tickets were $2. Jim passed out in the bathroom before going on. A friend of a friend dragged Jim to the sink, splashed water in his face to revive him and The Doors went on to rock the house.
