Whilst unconfirmed, this is believed to be one of the last, if not, the last commercial flight for GLSAK, 28 year old, Boeing 757 before its inevitable scrapping next year.
I’m very pleased to have made it on board for one final time which marks the end of an era for British charter/holiday airlines using the jet since its introduction in the 1980s.
Known for its unrivalled power to weight ratio especially when powered by the Rolls Royce RB211, this narrow bodied short/medium range aircraft sent waves through the industry at its time of introduction and ironically is todays most sought after, in terms of capacity/range.
Having ridden on the jumpseat of a 757-200 just over 2 years ago from London to Faro, Portugal, it’s clear that crew who, for some, have circa 20-30 years experience flying the jet will miss its classic feel and aesthetic but strangely seems timeless even with some jets such as G-LSAI 1987 built, at 38 years old, still looking sleek.
