The Jetboil Zip is the entry stove in the range and is for boiling water only (not for cooking with pans). The question being is a Jetboil worth the money??? I give my view in this video after owning it for a year.

Nice video! With the 'wayfarer' or any pre-hydrated read to eat pouch meals, I just stuff the entire pouch into the pot (boil in a bag style) with some water. Bring it to boil and then kill the gas... leave for 5 mins and it will be super hot, and not use much gas. Then eat from the bag.

Great video mate. Had one of these for years from when I was in the army and you've made me realise I could donit better what with the flint and that! As the guy below said, we just stuffed the rats into it, didn't even know you could get scran you could add water to! Cheers

Thanks for the review. I see a lot of hikers on the Appalachian Trail in the US using these and I always wondered if it would be appropriate for me. I use an Esbit stove which is very compact but slow. I may add a Jetboil to equipment, to give me more to choose from.

I've had a JetBoil Flash for years and it's been fantastic. The piezoelectric spark still works, but it does take up a big cylinder of room in a full backpack, so recently I bought the Zip (still does 500mL water) and a Gerber Flint/Steel tool to ignite it. The JB Zip is a good inch or so shorter so it frees up a chunk of space inside the backpack when you're maxing things out in cold weather or long food-laden hikes when you need more room for clothing layers and/or food storage. I've had nothing but a great experience with the JetBoils! The Gerber flint and steel takes back some of the room gained but I can store that in my top pouch easily and it's more useful. If I need to start a fire without any lighter, I can use that. And I'll leave my original JetBoil Flash in the campervan where I use it often throughout the year.

gave mine away .. i had to get ground level stove for high altitude ,( not efficient ) bollox theyre all the same ! my 10 year old vango is as fast as any jetboil .. my reason for changing was the problem.digging a pit up a mountain to bury half of it keep it out of the elements , the gas goes nowhere ... building a rock scafhold to keep it upright on a stormy mountain ( the things you dont think about camping.in the woods .. )

Very informative! Nicely done! So with stoves based from a small gas canister like that, is it not practical to use them for say, heating up a can of soup or stew? About how many meals would you guess that one canister would last for that sort of use case?
@Vic-ng8if2 жыл бұрын
You'd have to clean the pot out afterwards chum, then you'll use up more water cleaning it. You can get a bigger can as you probably know but the little one fits in nicely. I use about 1 every other bike trip.

Hi! I have a new Zip and like it but have some concerns about it. When attaching it to the gas canister, it leaks a bit of gas. Also the burner has got some odd bluish color where the fire exits that don’t see on yours. I use Primus canister it is not original Jetboil but still premium quality. Have any idea what might be the problem?
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales3 жыл бұрын
The release of gas as your screw your canister to the burner is normal. Just go as fast as you can! The colour of the burn is an interesting one. I’ve had a canister which burnt bright red and that was a jetboil one. I don’t why... maybe the gas is contaminated.

Never use a gas stove inside the tent. Some people died because of it, the gas displaced the oxygen inside the tent.

I just purchased one after spending 30 minutes boiling water 04 in the morning, in 5 degrees while it was raining on my last MC camping trip. It was a regular burner on top of a gas cannister. I haven’t tested the Zip yet, but the build quality and the way everything packs neatly in the small jetboil is amazing. If this do in fact boil water in 2,5 minutes, this will be a 10/10 for sure!
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales3 жыл бұрын
Superb! It will boil it in under a minute when well sheltered.
@JohannesDalen3 жыл бұрын
@@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales Thats awesome. I bought the skillet adapter too. Will mainly eat food that requires bouled water, but being able to fry a few sausages every now and then is a nice option. The skillet is iron, so it can handle open fire as well, which is what I most often do. Thanks for the response and review!

im not sure if you've had the chance but it worked great for me in 20 degrees weather in north GA so worth it i had coffee and hot oatmeal in minutes i was hesitant because of the price but haven't looked back.

Should the fuel canister be removed from the burner between uses or left on?

The Zip is designed for boiling water however I think there is adapter that enables a pan to sit on the burner.

@@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales Jetboil Pot Support (UPC 0858941006410)
@jimbojet87282 жыл бұрын
You might consider a metal pot stand? MSR have one that is adjustable and fits all sizes of canisters, it isn’t expensive. You could do far worse, give one a try.
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales2 жыл бұрын
Great idea. Thanks for the tip👍🏻
@1djbecker Жыл бұрын
The JetBoil stand is specific to packing the stove. It's designed so that the burner nests into the center, and the folded legs protect the pot coating from the metal burner edge. I pack the stand as an essential part even though I rarely bother with the hassle of clipping it onto the fuel canister. One of the neatest features of the Zip is how cleverly everything nests together. You can add a coffee press, cable hanging system and pot support without increasing the size. A mini lighter fits in the heat diffuser void. Of course with actual use I store fragile items in the pot, letting the robust fuel canister fend for itself.

The jet boils seem to be a bit pricey but efficient. I bought a cheaper version from Planet X for £29.99p- It boils 300mils of water in 4mins 20 seconds - a bit longer than the jet boil but does the job.
@FlyCampCaravanNorthWales2 жыл бұрын
Everything in camping is overpriced! In this video of the jet boil it got the water to a boil in circa four minutes but that was with a strong headwind. In sheltered conditions the boil will be less than two minutes easy.
@ianwatts74028 ай бұрын
The orange stand it comes with does not fit Coleman gas canisters. If you want a stand, the MSR one is way better
