How do you like the Grado comparedto other makes? They seem to have a lack openness through the mids to me.

It's a funny one, through my speakers it sounds great, but listening through headphones it definitely seems to be a bit flat over the mid-range. I've actually just swapped it out for a Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood and that has a much more balanced sound, but again, when listening through my speakers it doesn't have the same 'smoothness' as the Opus 3. And having said all that, it might just be my setup that is failing to get the best out of the Opus 3. That's one of the things about analogue audio systems, no two will ever sound the same.......

@@needledrophq9211thanks for your thoughts. Grado definitely polarise opinion! I was considering them as they are high compliance carts and there aren't many around these days. Maybe I should punt on a used prestige Black to see if their sound jives in my modest system, but then again, I know I like openness in the mids..

@@Danthehorse From what I've read the 'sweet spot' for the lower priced Grados is the Blue, so if you're planning to dip your toe in the Grado world then perhaps that's as good a place to start as any.

I suspect the preamp will play a big role with these carts.
