just.....wow. grew up with him on the Radio. didn't particularly buy his records, but...ending up a musician myself, and had ears on, during this phase of generational brilliance, got a healthy dose of this incredible bands offerings, for say, the last 40 years. this peice here, is nothing short of stunning. Ian is a better singer, and entertainer, than i ever gave him credit for. this is True Art and Music. no "Formats'...no "Formulas'... pure unleashed talent and shining brilliance

Listening to "Songs from the wood" this evening, and I still loving it as much as I did when it first came out. Thank you Ian Anderson for many, many years of listening pleasure!

Frankly, as I Yank, you wouldn't think me to be a big Tull fan, but from my youth, they were my favorites! From 'This Was', with the first line up of musicians, Ian had me with his mix of English history, and rock and roll eccentricity, to 'Heavy Horses' (the last LP I recall purchasing...), I've been a fan. Seen them four times in concerts over the years. The only problem is that all my recordings are in eight track format. I'm almost 54 years old, now. Thanks for posting a piece of my youth.

One of the best videos of the guys on KZbin, in my opinion. Still browsing through some of them though. I'm a younger guy who's really into Jethro Tull, and will have my first opportunity to see them live in Los Angeles at the end of this summer. Can't wait for it!

every man in the band is absolute a genius. you cannot perform a tull song from the beggining to the end without hours and days of learning. but what about singing 10 songs from tull? they are and will remain the best!

Great song played beautifully by this great band. Love it. They were really something live. Glad I was able to see them.

When they were popular in the 70's I was about 16, didn't like to watch them if they were on TV live on some show or concert hall in Detroit cause the lead singer freaked me out, but I would listen to them on the radio or my brothers' albums and *loved* them. Now 30 + yrs later, I see he was not just a (brilliant) singer and musician but an actor and a clown...no need to fear him!

Saw this tour, too. What an incredible performance and this is a jewel of a video, with great (rare) quality audio to boot! This was the second tour of Tull's that I saw...1979 I think, with 1975's Warchild the first. My bro went to the Aqualung tour and Thick as a brick as well as the 1971 Passion Play tour. I bought the coat and the boots and took up guitar... Ian's the greatest rock songwriter of all time (next to John Lennon)...

I never really thought about them doing this live before. That is incredible that they could do songs like this one live rather than have to lip synch it. This is true and absolute talent. I have always loved Jethro Tull and while several of their other albums are close, this was my favorite.
@jaysonryder197313 жыл бұрын
Being born in '73, I have one question. Why can't there be musicians with this level of passion and talent around today? Or at least why must they be such a minority? Music has never been about who sells the most records, it is all about expression, and conveying your thoughts and feelings to your audience. These guys remind what it is like to believe in magic again. Truly amazing.

For some of the younger people visiting this post, you may or may not be familiar with the group Jethro Tull. Composer (and bearded rock genius) Ian Anderson merged classical rock riffs with a Renaissance-era flavor and consummate musicianship, and was known for his onstage frenetics and flute playing. This cover tune from Song From the Wood, their 1977 masterpiece, is just a taste of this superb album. Everyone who appreciates this group should have at least this CD in their collection.

Gives me the chills this is so good. The music, poetry, performance and heck, creativity, are all amazing - and with a sense of humor. Plus they dance across a number of musical genres effortlessly. To top it off Ian smacks those cymbals at the end with superior alacrity. You just can't beat this. Thanks to whomever posted this one.

Barrie absolutely kicks ass on drums here. Remarkable composition--you hear something new every time you listen. There's just nothing else in modern music quite like this. Sheer brilliance.
@neilgibson99592 жыл бұрын
Great comment, EXCEPT...'BARRIE' as you called him, is Martin Barre, the black and white striped -pant legged guitarist of 40+ years (!!!) service in the band... The energetic drummer is AMAZING, but that's Barriemore Barlow...the 2nd, and arguably, the 'best fit' drummer that Jethro Tull ever had...and obviously, he and ALL of the players in that lineup were multi-instrument talented. The drummer?, momentarily playing flute? (and glockenspiel)... I know Martin Barre also played 'live' marimba, saxophone, and I believe, flute. Amazing!!! Missed!!! So Grateful!!!

Gentle Giant albums from 1975-1980 were issued by Chrysalis Records in the UK, and Capitol Records in the US. Jethro Tull was also signed to Chrysalis Records, which distributed their albums in the US & UK for many years. I just checked!

Ian Anderson a true legend. So many decades, albums, different band members. Had salmon farms, used satellites, technology & a whole other load of stuff. So called progressive rock, doesn’t do his music any justice. Let alone his business & entrepreneurial skills.

hercegnooee-According to the official website: John Glascock, Jethro Tull's third bass player, was the first member of Jethro Tull to have had a recording career that didn't start with Ian Anderson. He was with the band for only four years (1975-1979), before he died suddenly at the age of twenty eight from complications stemming from a congenital heart defect.

@wmdarkmoor The Moodies were first, and their fusion of classical music and rock is fantastic. Anderson used a flute as a stand-out piece, and I would think that it would probably be harder to have a flute upfront than a classical section. In any case, my wife and I are looking forward to see the Moodies in March at the Beau Rivage in Mississippi!
