Dude. I just bought the E Revo on a whim because I had loved my RC cars as a kid and now over 40 I am looking to have some fun. I have been worried about the decision to spend a couple hundred bucks on a toy, but this video has given me so much confidence in the community and my decision to buy. Thank you for this great video. I will be referencing it for some time to get the most out of it as time and money allow. Absolutely LOVED the holding the camera with your chin, noting the fact, then immediately dropping it as I would have done the same. Thanks again for what I would consider the inside scoop!

I have some upgrades to add, and notes. I had my 1/16th for about 30 minutes before my Servo stripped, so I upgraded to the Savox Metal Gear. I had the truck one week before I stripped my rear diff, so I ordered another, and that one stripped about as fast. So I took the truck apart, and found that my Slipper was seized, the bearing was shot and the slipper was rusted shut (just because the truck is water proof, doesn't mean the components are). I cleaned my slipper, and then when I put the spring back on I put a small washer between the spring and the new slipper bearing, so that the spring wasn't pressing against the slipper bearing seal. I also ordered a center differential, and loosened my slipper. This center Diff and loosened slipper really made a big difference in the enjoyment of the truck. I have yet to strip a diff and I've ran 8 2S lipo packs through it. The truck also seems to be better balanced when going around turns. If I strip another diff, I've heard that the aluminum bulkheads/diff housings really make a difference because they don't flex when ran hot which causes slop and stripping. We will see. :) My tires kept getting filled with sand, so I filled the inside holes and put 4 holes around the tread of the tire to let the sand out. I did a bearing upgrade kit to have some extra bearings but also to replace the rocker arm bushings and some of the other bushings like the steering bushings, and some bearings that went out. If you want your truck to last, you have to maintain it and keep it clean. I also did the front bulkhead screw/secure and it helps quite a bit. Metal Atomik Axle Carriers are a major difference. I wish there were better options for Pushrods etc. They wear out really fast and really screwup the handling of the truck at speed. Shock Socks o homemade Shock Savers using ziploc sandwich bags instead; cutting strips and making the socks out of those instead, fast and free upgrade. They are also more flexible and water resistant. The key to these is to keep dirt away from the seals. Thanks Jethro super helpful.

What shim the ring gear closer to the pinion gear? I noticed the Traxxas Diffs aren’t very tight tolerances even brand new. Outdrives move more than I would like to see.. That throws off the gear mesh also by putting leverage on it inside and not stay where it should..

As someone who’s thinking about upgrading my son’s 1/16 Slash to a MERV and getting another MERV for myself, this was awesome, thank you. One tip to add: Traxxas’ own metal servo gear set (TRX2082X) fits into the stock servo. We stripped the plastic gears pretty quickly on our mini Slash, but metal ones have had a lot of abuse already and are holding up.

5 year old video but glad I found it. My stepson said he was bringing a bunch of rc stuff to me and if I didn’t want it to sell it. He is out of college and working now so his hobbies have long since changed. I was expecting toys or cheap junk but boy was I surprised! It’s older stuff but most is brand new and never even unboxed and in the pile were two 1/16 Erevo’s!! One brushless and one brushed. Plus a few Horizon Hobby helicopters and drones, a couple Spektrum transmitters, chargers, a couple other cheaper Traxxas rc vehicles. His dad works for Amazon and brought him returns over the years. The Nimh batteries that were in the boxes only gave 1-2 minute run times so I cut the connectors off and put them on a couple 2s and 3s lipos. I have only tried the 2s so far because it got dark but this little thing is a beast just on 2s! Looking forward to running the 3s soon!

@@jethro450 3 years ago I was running something RC every single day, car, plane, drone, or helicopter, but then 1 July 2021 we bought a small farm and I was excited at first, I was going to have all this land to enjoy my toys whenever I wanted! But, I didn’t know that my wife’s plan was to get animals right away. So then my daily play time turned into taking care of animals and I have only touched my rc stuff maybe 4 times since then! It all just sits and I have not sold anything because I keep thinking that I will one day have time for them again. These are my first Traxxas vehicles. I have an Arrma Typhon, 6s Kraton, 6s Kraton exb, two 8s 1:5 Kratons, a Talion, and a Felony! I think thats it for my Arrma collection plus a few other Bang Good smaller buggies and cars. 3 or 4 helicopters, 10 or more planes, probably 100 assorted lipos! Almost forgot the 30 or so drones too! I went a little overboard for a few years after retiring at 46!

One of, if not the best RC mod videos out there. Entirely informative and useful. Your list of mods and warnings about things like gear rations is invaluable. I own 1 1/16 Velion Rally, (the original) and turned it into a much more controllable road car. Body, 1/10 wheels and soft X pattern tires, Traxxas newest radio, and receiver with the stable/adjustable steering tech. I have had two 2010 Camaro bodies. I think I bought the last one available on the planet, btw. Anyway, enough about me! My son has the 1/16 Revo and I'm forwarding the vid to him. Thanks! PS; I'm attempting to mount the new body using 10th scale magnetic mounts. The body has no holes in it. I'm going to check an see if the velcro is possible for my car.

Hey, at the point in your video when you start talking about the sloppy toe and suspension push rod links and how when you said it wasn’t any better to get the Traxxas aluminum links- well, from what I found out on my stepsons e Revo 1/16, the reason why those don’t seem to last very long is because Traxxas puts them cheap plastic hollow balls inside the rod ends so hopefully those expensive aluminum Traxxas toe links or suspension push rods you bought, you didn’t throw those away because you can go on the Traxxas parts page for these cars and for just a couple bucks, you can buy a package of 20 steel replacement hollow balls that will work in the cheap red plastic non-adjustable links and even in the Traxxas aluminum links.

I watch these videos for learning purposes. And they're fun. And many channels do well. It's cool to see E-Revo or Summit tires on a mini. If the joints are wearing out, the end result is too heavy. Those tires look used on the flats and not on the edges. Cut the edges off. If the edges are not wearing down, they aren't serving much purpose if the joints don't like the extra weight. Just remove it.

some great tips (lot of stuff I agree with, have the same exact same 2s and 3s lipos and lot of the upgrades) can't believe anyone uses body posts clips, the velcro mod was the very first mod I did kinda shame I don't run my mini much....since I got the big revo few years later I run mostly that one (would probably be different if I had a small track in my backyard ;o) I have the castle 1406 big block conversion + sidewinder 1/10 esc, hitec servo and few other upgrade pars - aluminium shocks and steel push rods and toe links, rpm knucles, extended rear arms and proline trencher 2.2 tires....and a spektrum radio (anything is better than traxxas, maybe the newer ones are not as bad as they were 10 years ago) if you run in wet/snow you need closed cell tire inserts which do not suck up water, sadly they are maybe hard to get now, proline and other companies used to sell them but discontinued them, I have a box full of them as I was buying all different ones I could find trying to match different tires (I have like 4 boxes of different truck and buggy wheels and tires and closed cells) how did you do the front to center skidplate mod? is it just drilled through and use a nut and scew? never seen that one but it makes a lot of sense....chassis flex and as a result bulkhead flex and diff misalignment always have been a weak point on both revos (big and small) honestly I don't know why it's just one screw holding the halves together, if it would have 2 screws it would help remedy the issues a lot imo

Atomik rc makes aluminum tie rods that are pretty affordable. They definitely last much longer before they start to wear out and are worth it in my opinion. Just be careful when tightening the front ones up to the bellcrank because they use a smaller size hex than the stock. Tight enough is tight enough!

I found the stock springs to be too soft for bashing, and running over rough terrain. Truck would slap it’s chassis going over rough terrain. I put the pink springs on mine with 50wt oil and it’s so much better over rough terrain, it still dampens the bumps but with less chassis slap on the ground.

What weight diff fluid did you end up using? I tried using 500 K and then 1 million in the center of my stepsons mini Erivo that’s been converted to VXL and even that wasn’t heavy enough so I went all the way up to 20 million weight and I think he’s pretty happy with it.

I have two of these e Revo vxl 1/16 th scales and one big 1/10 aka imo 1/8th scale e Revo plus 6 other cars. All electric ALL TRAXXAS lol. My two mini e revos are both VXL’s with that same mini 380 size 4000 KV motor. All my cars are worth it man they are incredible. I decided since I’m a speed demon to do mod 1 gearing on my big e Revo mamba monster brushless 25 tooth pinion 40 tooth spur. With my two minis I’m geared 31 pinion 45 spur lol. I love speed man I can’t have much fun with 20-30 mph. 32-35 mph and up is when it starts to get fun.

How much run time do you get with those 2200 2s batteries?
@huzaifaabdulrab4458

Yo! This video is amazing!👌 Thanks man! The point that you mentioned to replace the stock steering servo with the Savox is very true. I had my stock servo strip on my first runs as well😂. Since you have a lot of experience, I wanted to ask somethings. I run a single 2s Venom 2200 35C on my Mini Erevo VXL on stock gearing. I know that when the battery dies on Lipo cutoff mode the truck shuts off and limits itself to steering only. But sometimes the battery doesn't die but the truck goes into 'limp' / steering only mode, and I've noticed when that happens the ESC is pretty hot. You got any ideas what's happening and any solutions?
@jethro450
@jethro450 3 жыл бұрын
There’s two modes on the esc when things happen. 1) too hot. Does exactly what you said. 2) low battery ( not all the way dead). It will run at 50% throttle to warn you battery is low. If it gets too low, it’ll act like it’s too hot. Won’t run at all and steering still works. Do you have bigger tires on? That’ll heat it up with stock gearing. You probably need to hear it down just a tad to keep the electronics cooler.

Thinking of getting this car as my first rc ever, would you say it’s a good first time car? Also, to achieve the 50 mph “top speed” I need 2 batteries and the included 23 pinion? What batteries are best for performance, last a while in one run on one charge, and keep the truck going fast??
