I got my Dashing about a month ago and my fuel consumption has been a lot better than that. In town it's around 8.9 and on the highway it's 7.4 which for me is great. It's a really nice and comfortable drive. I'm super happy with the purchase. Edit: A few things I do want to add is that the speakers are not great. Also, it felt like very little was said about the car during this review, I notice this trend during recent reviews that more time is spent on competitors.

even the amazing pluses, some of which could have been compared to the moreexpensive Europeans, Japanes or Koreans were watered down, there's always this shade undertone thrown about her and there when it comes to Chinese car reviews generally, we need to shed off a bit of more eurocentricism in us
@Sibusiso_NtibaneАй бұрын
Well, said. Makes the whole review biased.
@TD1237Ай бұрын
Yeah, he was needlessly critical. For one, the number of sub-brands doesn't really have any relevance to the consumer. We just need to know about the product. And the fact that the Chinese brands' presence is growing here is a good thing. They're outselling the legacy brands. Meaning, people want them. And if the others can do any better, then they will need to step up their game. But, overall, most of the criticisms in this video could easily be applied to the non-Chinese manufacturers. P.S. people saying "criticism is good so this review is perfect" are being very silly. It's only good if it's consistent. This means criticising VW's ample use of (very similar) sub-brands (which use the same parts and platforms), the flooding of the market by Germans and Japanese (which has been happening throughout our modern history), and a host of other things which apply more to the legacy manufacturers than to these cars. Obviously mentioning these things in upcoming reviews makes no sense. And it doesn't make sense to do so in this case either. As another user said, we need to shed off more of our Eurocentrism here.

An actual review reflecting a real world experience. Addressing concerns around parts availability, dealer networks, power delivery and a lot more. Yes, it is an affordable 7 seater, but load it up and hit the road and you will definitely comment about it's 1.5 T engine. Fuel consumption is a huge factor as well, possibly a deal breaker too. Often times than not, we become too critical if a reviewer only praises the car instead of actually advising on the not so good parts, sponsored much? Anyway, a job well done Mr Jacob. I do get a feel of what this offers in the market. 🙏🏾
@sandisongwenya4667Ай бұрын
@@AvuxeniWeAreTorqueingCars I think the part about fuel consumption is the same you will get to similarly weighted cars with the 7 seats. Take the 1.4 TSI VW All Space Tiguan. Load it up, same thing. So that is not product specific. The problem for me with this review is not that I expect Jacob to be praising a car, but id like a review more focused on the product without personal opinions about Chinese cars in general and the parent group. You don't hear any of these things when other brands which are under the same parent company do this. He really needs to be more impartial and objective and focus on the product. I watched the entire review before commenting. Its actually becoming a common occurrence with Jacobs reviews. Are their products durable enough? I love their new offerings and I accept them for what they are. As a car head? Maybe not so much, a few elements are missing. Plenty of car reviews out there, all reviewing the same new cars. Who better to give an objective opinion than someone driving these days in day out.

Question: Why is the reviewer criticising Chinese car manufacturers for entering the market with far more affordable products - when the real question is why are the legacy car makers (particularly the Germans, but also the Japanese) charging such high car prices in SA ? I am sick and tired of being charged an arm and a leg in this country for cars which are far more affordable in other countries - I’m talking VW, Audi, Ford, etc, etc, etc.

@granwillmurray6441Ай бұрын
Hey Jacob, I totally agree with you. I feel like Chery is at risk of cannibalizing its own market by lacking clear segmentation compared to GWM. I've been wrestling with this same issue because the cars Chery brings in seem to compete with each other-they're mostly SUVs without distinct positioning in my opinion. GWM's segmentation feels much more streamlined: the P-Series for bakkies, Haval for SUVs, Ora for electric vehicles, and Tank for off-road SUVs. With Chery, it's a bit confusing. Take the Omoda C9, for instance-its direct competition could be the upcoming Jaecoo J8 so then what about the Tiggo 8? Then Jetour is bringing the T2 which is in direct competition with Jaecoo since according to them are their offroad SUVs. Eish! 🤷 This all may leave buyers wondering why they should even choose one over the other and my opinion is that I feel this overlap could even push some potential buyers toward other brands to avoid the confusion. I don't hate the brand, I mean Chery is amazing and the quality they provide is tops but for me honestly their segmentation is really confusing.
@sandisongwenya4667Ай бұрын
I think you don't get Chery brand segmentation. C9, J8 and Tiggo 8 don't compete at all. A C9 is to a J8 what a X5 is to a X6 - completely different buyers. A Tiggo 8 is less upmarket. Test the C9 and the Tiggo 8 back to back and you will understand. Then we go to Tiggo 7 pro and J7, again 2 separately different places in the market. A J7 is more refined and more capable than a Tiggo 7 pro. A person buying a Tiggo 7 and J7 are a different profile. Then going to Tiggo 4 and Omoda C5. Same story as the above, it is after very different customers. Adding Jetour into the mix. The X70 doesn't compete with the Tiggo 8 pro either. One is more upmarket, power is more and finishing is better materials. That's reflected in the pricing as well, its why Jetour didn't bring the 1.6T variants of the X70. The Dashing also doesn't compete with a Tiggo 7 or a J7, different buyer profile for all 3 cars. If you have driven all the products then you understand. VW group does the same thing. Speaking about the T2, it doesn't compete at all with the Jaecoo products. A T2 is a pure rugged luxury offroader. The Jaecoo products are not rugged at all, it is as capable off road as an X5 basically.
@DiveshRSAАй бұрын
I also feel there’s too many brands within Chery. And they all compete with each other. So I don’t get it. I feel SA car market is too small to sustain all these brands. Which means ultimately when some of them get discontinued, the consumers that bought them will be stuck with a car that’s no longer existing in SA. For me, this massive rollout of models is just way too much for our market

I think the point of the different brand names is to segment the market clearly for the consumer while keeping business/operational efficiency. Chinese auto makers have so much manufacturing capacity that they will gamble on introducing cars that compete with their own existing brands because I think they know they will get market share away from the legacy auto makers. I think it's Savvy business and let's be real 7-seater for under 500k vs 1-2 million for the same thing from a German maker? It's hard to shut that down unless you're drowning in tender money.

Look at it this way, why is Opel in the market despite the Mokka and Polo literally sharing a platform? Same reason. On the car itself, at that price a Xpander doesnt make any sense, for one youre getting way more airbags, plus you get a way more luxurious cabin and tech you would find in a Range Rover. The fuel consuption is worrying unless you take into account this thing is a big 7 seater with Merc levels of luxury. The boot though is a bit concerning, is it that the cooler box couldnt fit in any orientation with the third row down?

Agreed. We have to take into account though that the Chinese local market buys mostly EV's and tech, there is no real financial gain to invest in improving the combustion engine. If you take a German car with similar spec that on average uses 1.5-2l/100km less fuel, the average buyer will still need to drive the car for a minimum of 6-8 years to break even. To be fair VW has been using various, albeit improved versions of EA888 engine since 2004 - current day.

Most cars aren’t that fuel efficient really in their first couple thousand KM I believe after at least 30000km will your car truly start shining with fuel. Driving style is important too. I reckon that 5 year 60000km service plan could be better chuck away the 1m km warranty story offer a 5 year 100000km maintenance plan rather then value proposition changes😮

Why different subrands. If one fails it does not tarnish the others

I personally believe the Chinese are doing a great job with all these exterior and interior designs for such price. I only wish the engine was 2Ltre . I would but it without second thought. If you were to buy other SUV car with all these features, the price would probably be Double Double.

The problem with all these influx of chinese cars is quality will go down because the competition will causes different Chinese car manufacturers to undercut one another on price I mean theres GWM which makes the Haval then theres Chery with their Jetours etc i looked at the prices of the Jetour and its slightly cheaper than the Haval Jolion and i dont understand what's the point of having so many models under one brand with the same engines and features like which car must i buy? We need a law that limits the number of Chinese Car Manufacturers that can operate in South Africa because i know BYD will also release an influx of SUVs

I don't see a problem with chinese cars except that i'd like to see some variety, like hatchbacks, sedans and sports cars. I enjoy the pricing the most though
@theonewhowatchesthewatchme2275Ай бұрын
Liked how GWM has actually bought all they're brands under one name. But still dont understand why there's a bakkie brand name a suv brand name a sedan brand name, Toyota, vw and all those just give model names for each car not make a whole new brand.

just those exhaust are a put of esp when you know there is a 1.5 under the hood lol.. i also think we need more details on the car, exterior design and less on its sister companies etc.

@thobekanikhoza4038Ай бұрын
well, VW has Seat Scoda etc. not a problem, the issue plaguing the Chinese generally is the naming convention across the board. They need to look into that...

Agreed, we have too many Chinese cars now. The engines and refinement is a problem for most. But how big of a problem

This fully specced 7 seater is the same price as a fully specced polo 1.0 So not really a problem at all

We consider ladder frame platformed offroaders as posh vehicles in SA, I don't think refinement is such a big deal
@seanfenwickАй бұрын
@@biafo4541those ladder framed posh cars will still be around when you buy your 5th Jetour because they wore out.
@biafo4541Ай бұрын
@seanfenwick yes I know because I own an 4 yr old ladder framed chassis car and it's not posh, it's considered posh. But reliability wasn't the point of this chat, we were talking about on the road refinement.
