It's still weird seeing LHC on a KZbin video. I am excited for the lake weather and trips to Body Beach this season and I hope to see if my old 440 is too small for me and I need to upgrade to a 650 or bigger or if a 440 is a perfect fit I don't need speed I just need to know if it'll move my heavy butt.

Love the content. Questions using a TS cdi coil in a 89sx, is the stator and cdi coil different? Compatible? Can they mix and match ? If so ,how to modify the ts cdi? I had to pause the video so the answers might be ahead.

Ever messed with a 750SX West Coast head? I bought an engine for my '95 750SXi that has one of those heads on it. Swapped it in and it runs fine. I want to take the head off to inspect inside, but not certain if I need to get a West Coast specific head gasket for it, which they made but are discontinued.
@jetskijim007

Yes, you can use stock gasket with westcoast head. U still have to replace the o rings though.

@@jetskijim007 Awesome, I really appreciate the info! Perhaps I should source a stock 750sx head since finding those West Coast o rings might be tricky, and sourcing same-size generic replacements might be difficult to match exact dimensions and material properties.

Jim, I noticed on the breather of the oil tank which you converted to be a reserve fuel tank you have one of those aftermarket machined aluminium one way air breather valves that come from China. I have found that these things require too much pressure in order to breath properly so that a vacuum is not created and starving the engine for fuel (ESPECIALLY under load at WOT!). This may be part of your problem, but at the very least, it is a variable you should get rid of. I have tried using several different ones of these one way breather valves and every time I've ALWAYS ran into this being an issue! I would seriously ditch that valve as you will go down a rabbit hole trying to figure out why it's not running right when the whole time it may have been this cheep Chinese aftermarket valve that looks pretty but absolutely is garbage!! Hope you see this and that this is helpful.

Hey Jimmy,I know it’s just a couple of three weeks ago. You did a segment on fuel pumps. What was the name of that company?
@jetskijim007

Yezoauto. It looks like they have since sold out. The key is that it is the same fuel pump from a kawasaki mule 4000. There are other companies selling them for around $40 with over 99% positive feedback. :-)

My 650 was at .005" piston to wall which was at the limit but straight, honed it, new rings, stock milled head was only pulling 125 psi, swapped a mariner head, bumper to 155 psi. Guessing something is really wrong or the gauge reads low.
@JetSkiBuyFixPlaySellChannel
@JetSkiBuyFixPlaySellChannel 7 ай бұрын
Cheap gauges, especially Harbor Freight ones are notorious for reading low. In an earlier episode Jim mentioned swapping out the shrader valve core with one off a tool truck like Snap-On for better accuracy.

@JetSkiBuyFixPlaySellChannel it's a snap on. My fresh 550 with a stock milled head reads 125 with the same gauge and my stock ts650 reads 75 lol

How are you making such high compression with the top end worn out?
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 7 ай бұрын
The oils we use today are 10 times better than the oil of 30 years ago. Ring wear is different than piston wear. I know it is strange, but aluminum is softer, and wears out quicker than the rings do. Years ago the rings would wear at the same rate as pistons. Todays oils slow down the ring wear enough that the pistons wear out long before ring seal is compromised..

Hey Jim, how did you run fuel lines to the oil tank
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 7 ай бұрын
Remove the air check valve from the fuel pickup. Run a hose from the fuel pickup where the check valve used to be to the bottom of the oil tank. Now while riding, as u use the fuel out of the fuel tank, it draws fuel from the oil tank. Make sure the air check valve on the oil tank is working properly though.

Can a person remove the starter on a 1993 650SX without removing the muffler system to get to the bolts and have a passage way to get the starter out of the engine compartment? Is there a trick to do this?
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 4 ай бұрын
It can be done, but it is way more difficult than just taking the top 3 bolts out of the exhaust pipe, the one bolt on the side, loosen up one of the large hose clamps on the large coupler, and the back half of the exhaust assembly rotates up and right out or the ski, exposing the starter.
@claymilner1201

In one of your videos, you say the threads in the exhaust manifolds strip out, that's why I did not want to take the riser off the exhaust manifold. If I do remove the three bolts and remove the riser, is the gasket (11009-3752) re-usable or do I need a new gasket? I thought in your video you removed a "metal" gasket and said you would be re-using it. Thanks for the assistance!! @@jetskijim007

Why do you reuse the gaskets and tell us not to? Did you say you are taking it apart again?
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 7 ай бұрын
Yes, i am confortable reusing gaskets, as these are torn down often. On my ski's i ride all the time, i don't reuse gaskets, as i may go years without tearing them down. This 650 in paticular though, will be apart 3 or 4 more times this season. :-)
