OK I was just watched a video from Matt,, he was working on his Corvair motor,,he showed some kind of fancy dancy super Duper cooling fan. I don't remember what it was, but it was pretty cool and being an old Corvair fan I think it's pretty cool that you guys are doing what you're doing with the old Six-cylinder

Dang Jimmy ... for you to get home from Merlin's place and that part to still be hot, Y'all must be 'walking distance' neighbors. That has to be a great place for gearheads to live. No wonder you guys can rip around the block without any Po-po interference. Can't wait for the Birthday Episode!! Best of Luck to the both of You. ✌🤠🙏

You need to hit up Matt's Off Road for info on that slick new billet aluminum Corvair cooling fan Matt just picked up, looks like a must have item for a modern Corvair engine build. Looks great so far, good luck!

I remember having to scrape the sludge out of an oil pan with a putty knife back when I was still in high school when I was working part time at a gas station. It was at least 3 time thicker than what you were scraping out of the corvair motor. Also almost an inch and a half deep. Had to use desal fuel to help cut it to do the final removal. It was a mess.

Nice to see Merlin actually putting a welding tip on his torch for welding the extension to the pickup tube. Pet peeve of mine to see folks welding with the cutting torch head or even worse using the cutting torch head as a hammer. Had a Brother-in-Law use my Harris cutting head as a hammer wailing on it so badly that he broke the seals on all the tubes. It burst into a nice starburst of flames as oxygen and acetylene shot out where the tubes joined to both the head and the base when I went to use it and found out the hard way what he had done. He didn't see the problem with beating on a $300 cutting torch head and using it in place of a $10 ball peen hammer. BTW: Check out Matt's video today where he covers the differences in Corvair cooling fans and displays a new lighter cast fan that is now being made by some Corvair aficionados that flows more air using less HP. Best!

Everyone knocks Pensoil, but my dad used it his whole life. His 1974 GMC 3/4 truck with a 454 had over 860,000 miles. When we took it apart, to repair a bad valve. It did have a lot of sludge. Good lubrication. I use Shell Rotella. 21:18 21:18 21:18

That oil pan is a "no name" brand and is considered the cheapest(it works....kinda) way to have an aluminum pan. The Otto pan and the Clark's pan are the real deal and should be used if you can afford one of them. I have personally used the Otto pan(and the valve covers) and they are sweet. I will one day get to use a Clark pan and valve covers and have the best in the world parts:) Nice idea about the oil pickup ut not needed with properly made pans.

When you took that to Merlon I knew it would get brazed or silver soldered back together. That silver solder is handy to have around. I’ve even fixed a seat spring in my Toyota that broke in the middle using it with a jewelers torch.

Love the videos. A couple of things. The oil pickup tube gets an O-ring. Typically you mill out the fins on the inside of the oil pan so you can sink the pickup closer to the bottom of the pan. Help minimize starvation and you pick up the coldest oil. With the pickup raised up, the cooled oil will just sit in the bottom and not be circulated very well. Usually you do the engine adapter, then the oil pan. The adapter gasket is made a little long. After installing the adapter you shave off the extra gasket. Will probably be OK if you cut the gasket and put some silicone at the corners. You don't need all the engine shrouds but you do need the top, front, and rear pieces (the ones that seal off the ends of the cylinder heads). You need spark plug boots....no...not the VW ones you probably have a crap-ton of. Get the Corvair boots. Thanks, good luck.

Matt@MORR just posted a video of a new fan for those motors he is trying. Supposed to use less HP and cool better at higher speeds. You might want to talk to him about it. It is custom/experimental, I believe.
