i used to live in a jewish neighborhood in brooklyn new york and i was walking home with my hispanic friends when a jewish guy in a van pulled up and told us that he doesnt want our kind around and he followed us to our homes while living in this neighborhood i made multiple hispanic, black, asian, even arabic friends but not one jew remind you that this is a jewish neighborhood where the majority are jews the chances of me making a jewish friend should be higher than an asian but no i had tons of asian friends not one jew the only time a jew ever made conversation with me was when it was shabbat and they asked me if i could turn off the lights for them in their house i lived there for 10 years and i do not have a positive memory dealing with jews in brooklyn they have their own ambulances police and even public transportation they take any extra precautions to not associate with "outsiders" to the extent that they cross the street when they see you its a shame that a group that faced as much of discrimination as your own is discriminating against others

My answer, as an Israeli: I think we Israelis are extremely rude, very racist and of course, we do think we're better than all other people. I don't accept the answers/excuses given in this video. Why are we like this? In my opinion it's a mixture of answers. Here are only 4 reasons: 1) We think we're the best because we sometimes believe in the Jewish concept of the Chosen People. Every Israeli Jew, even the secular, is secretly asking him/herself why are we chosen? What's the purpose of being chosen? -The land, "The Holy Land" is the chosen land some would say.. Why is this tiny piece of hot desert chosen? Remember, as Jews we don't necessarily care that Jesus walked here. For us he was Joshua or something, a Jewish guy from Nazereth. Why were we supposedly destined to live in this awful part of the world?.. 2) Overly dense, life is extremely hard: Israel is in many ways, the opposite of Canada. Canada is huge and has room to breath. It's got no wars, no aggressive area politics, it cannot be easily conquered. It has resources, we had only Salt for the first 70 years. Not even trees and shade when the country was established!! While the countries are opposites, so are the people. In some ways, people are shaped by the land and its reality. 3) We are indeed still a tribal society. In mentality at least. Worst than that, we are 12 tribal societies mashed together, with hate, racism and exclusion all very apparent in between our different tribes. The tribes, fight between themselves, though some would deny. So of course it is the attitude others get from us. Just imagine, a French and a German or a Polish and a British are far more similar to each other than an Ashkenazi Jew and a Yemenite Jew living 20 meters apart in Israel. 4) We are the as closed as any liberal society can be, so much as to be similar to dictatorships in that manner. Meaning, for example, Israelis literally can't drive outside their country's border. In all 70 years of existence, Israelis could never as to even walk 1 meter outside their country (apart for a small period where we were able to vacate in Egypt's Sinai and not without risking our lives). As Jews we receive hate and violence in almost every part of the world when we travel. etc.. etc.. This, among other things, drives us into being a very closed society where we choose to elect those who will keep us close and safe to power. Sort of a Stockholm syndrome. We choose to read the papers that tell us we can keep being a close and safe society. We are, in a way, caught in a cycle that perpetuates itself, it will take a long time or a catastrophically proportioned event to shake us out of this rotten state. ---We're not a very nice people, rarely ever outside our tribe.

I'm living in Israel (even better, in a settlement since childhood) and have to agree, most have forgotten the genuine "human" inside of them. It's a social / psychological destruction journey that begins since childhood. There are a million of details on why and how: the jewish religion, psychological mirroring, the military service, the holocaust, all together create a strong "Israeli" self-identity while throwing the "human" identity down the garbage. My favorite point of reference is that it's very rare to find Israelis going solo and joining another group of mixed nationalities to hang out and travel. That's a big red flag, and probably all the proof you need that something is fucked up in here. "Chosen people" of course is only relevant for the religious people (50% of population) and I don't even need to discuss this ridiculous detail. Me myself, I'm heading out to a more friendly country, I'm actually surprised I "survived" it and kept my normal human touch throughout the entire process, which felt almost as self-torture I guess cause I've could have done it sooner.

Gilad Atzmon comes to mind as a brilliant spokesperson for coming to terms with a religious/ethnic/nationalist identification which denies the universalist/ humanist impulses of Western Civilization, derived from the Greco/Roman/Christian "evolution" of thought. You could do no better than read his work "The Wandering Who", to help separate yourself from a former identification, which no longer nurtures your "human touch". Best of fortune to you.

I’m a Canadian and I visited Israel in 1998. I too found that Israelis are very unfriendly, arrogant and rude people. Smiley faces to a stranger?! Huh, forget about it... However, few Israelis from European roots showed some sociability. But my final impression is that there’s too much hate in Israel. By the way, I also visited Lebanon (which is a Middle Eastern country) and people there, especially in the Christian areas, are the friendliest, warmest and most loving people I've ever met in my life. In just some minutes, one feels he's one of them. They just adore strangers and I felt I don’t wanna leave this beautiful people… So it's not an excuse to say that rudeness and arrogance are middle-eastern traits!

Born in Ukraine, grew up in the US. If you ask a Russian tourist what they think about Americans, you'll hear about "rubber smiles, which are just masks, where nobody really likes you, but smiles all the time like an idiot" etc. etc. etc. Ask an American tourist the reverse and you'll get how nobody smiles on the street, everybody looks at you suspiciously, etc. etc. etc. But as you spend time in either place, you realize that this doesn't really define the people and the culture. I worked at an israeli company for a couple years as a non jew. People were very welcoming, warm, funny, and straightforward. BUT i did get a sense of underlying exclusivity. It was never in your face but always under the surface. Like they were all part of a secret society with a secret handshake. That might've been my imagination, but I'd imagine the same exclusivity would be present at any organization where the majority is made of a group of people with similar values and backgrounds.

I think it is because you are one man in a lot of Israelies, but also we Israelies see what people say about us in the world news and it effect us, and also we have different culter, traditions and religion and usually don't feel at home in other countries. Also military service and the reality of wars and terror attacks, being on constant threat creates trible connection that we can't explain to somebody that comes from outside. We care for each other more, and will do a lot to help others from our "tribe", but it will take us more effort to connect with someone from another coutry who doesn't really get our directness and less formality, and feel like they don't really understand us.

I'm a Macedonian /Australian, I have worked as a contractor for Jews of different ethnicity's. Most of them I found are very direct which can be taken as aggressive or rude, this goes especially for Hungarian Jews very serious people. On the other hand South African Jews a quite the opposite, friendly people. One thing about them all is they were all very wealthy people, I never met a broke Jew. From what I can see on the video is they all seem to be educated well spoken people, yet the last guy in the clip shows what I was saying about arrogance. This does not mean that he is a bad person it's rather a cultural thing. For example listen the way southern Europeans or Middle Eastern people talk, you'd think they were fighting. It's the way they converse nothing more than that. Love your clips they are very informative.

Israelis are actually VERY friendly. When I was there, EVERYONE was very nice to me. Chutzpah is a HUGE part of understanding the Israeli people. In Yiddish it means boldness, audacity or strong nerve. Israelis have a lot of Chutzpah, because they've had to in order to survive. If people don't understand that, then of course they will think Israelis are rude. Especially Americans. You also have to understand the identity of the Israelis -- the notion of the Sabra. prickly on the outside but on the inside -- soft and sweet.

This creates an ethnical competition everyone tries to prove that they are better . and the behavior that remains after this fusion is very aggressive 2) The Jewish mother wants her son/daughter to be a doctor and tells all the time that he/r is the best . 3) Israelis have a huge problem, they hate to feel cheated and especially that they are "suckers" this fear is very strong, stronger then anywhere else. In the US people are very polite and nice, but it is very shallow and people are not very warm, If you do not mind your own business you may find yourself in deep troubles Where I live,it is very nice but 20 min from here to the south side of Chicago, it is a real zoo of drugs and violence In Israel every place is safe The US is huge so they have to have strict rules and regulations the individual is not important as the country and the law. Israel is a small country that should make rules and regulations but the government is doing a poor job. The individual is more important the the country

I recently spent 3 weeks in Israel and did not find Israelis arrogant, aggressive or rude. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and helpful. They are direct but so am I so it was actually nice to talk to people that said what's on their mind. Loved Israel!

This claim is not true. Im turkish born norwegian citizen (dont be fooled by my youtube name, im not jewish). I was in Israel 2 years ago. i arrived at ben gurion airport 2am and realised there is no airport hotel (i was supposed to meet rest of my group 5pm, so i had 15hrs to kill). I was advised to take the bus to tel aviv and lodge there for the night. I took the airport bus to tel aviv and had no idea where to go from there. So i asked an Israeli couple from the bus where the nearest hotel is. They told me that i was in the city center and that there are lots of hotels, but they added that they would be happy to host me in their home for the night. To be honest i was suprised. I had a quick though about their offer and accepted it (i would not have accepted if it was a man/men but they were a nice couple of husband and wife. I joined them to their home which was in the city center. They were sooooo hospitable - made me bed, gave me towels and told me i could take a shower if i wanted to etc. In the morning when i woke up, the lady asked what i wanted for breakfast and how i wanted my coffee etc. Soo we had breakfast together and chatted and got to know eachother. After i left their house they even sent me a follow up message to see how i was doing, whether i managed to meet my group etc. Sooo nice people, gave me super good first impression of israelis. And i must say people that i met during my holiday were generally very nice all of them. Soo i think that this colombian tourist was unfortunately very unlucky with people (s)he met...

I am just back from Israel, I stopped by at an antiquities shop in Jerusalem owned by an elderly man. He was so moody and definitely not trying to sell me anything. He was also direct, funny and honest and I found him hilariously rude and really liked him. A few meters down the street another (bedouin) shopkeeper invited me to a cup of sage tea over which we philosophised about life for an hour. I bought nothing from either shop, but won't ever forget the encounters. I love Israelis :)

I think Israelis are unique, but also much like all of the other people who live by the Mediterranean Sea. They are mercurial. They blow hot and cold. They are lively. They don't give a hoot. Wow, Sharon is a major babe. I think I just fell in love. Also, I lived in Israel for a year and found Israelis to be very friendly but they are also very competitive by nature which at first came across as rude. I agree though that once you scratch the surface they are very friendly and helpful people. They just won't go out of their way to "sugar coat" things to make others feel better like a lot of Americans like myself do. It's their directness that can make them come off as being jerks.

I'm American and I have many Jewish friends AND Columbian friends. None of them feel they are mistreated here. Of course there are exceptions to every rule. There are also jerks everywhere. I have also met both Israelis and Palestinians and they were very kind. I think they should learn to live together in order to better all of their lives; especially the children. Hate is taught and it is up to the younger generation to start to change the tide and stop considering all people in a certain group an enemy.

Israelis are just generally direct. Westerners may put on fake smiles but not actually care about you. Israelis are not about sugar coating thinks and putting on fake smiles. If they like you they like you. If they don't they don't. But in Israel I found strangers were much more willing to do huge acts of service to me while there that I NEVER would have recieved from a stranger in the west. Not saying it was all Israeli strangers, but definitely some where in the US is none.

I worked in a hostel for some years in Amsterdam, we had guests from all over the world, the most annoying ones were by far the Israelis, almost all of them would immediately check the receit in front of your face, ask questions in an attacking/blaming way and tone and almost always try to get a better deal, room, lower price etc., and usually complain about a lot of things. I don't think it's a jewish thing, since we also had a lot of jews, from the US, that were nothing like the israelis. To me the israelis were very similar in behaviour with Turks and Middle Easteners (also not my favorite guests usually) in the angry/rude tone, the mistrust towards others, trying or havingh to negotiate prices and being pushy, not accepting 'no' easily. I guess it's because they have to be in their own countries. I don't think it has to do with the 'chosen people' or being closed for outsiders or because they feel superior, it might be the case, but Koreans and Japanese also believe they are the best in general and they are one of the most polite and friendly people usually.

I've been in Israel for half a few months, in Kibutz Ein Carmel. Every weekend visited another place, i found Jews outside the Kibutz closed, not rude. My thought is, not because they think they are better. It is because everything happening to them throughout the centuries, so they needed to be inventors,closed, direct in the face etc etc for the sake of surviving. my husband and i have good friends from Israel, because beneath the surface they are warm and true not false. I am from the Netherlands so we are also some what direct in the face maybe that's why we find the mentality of Jews not disturbing.

I've been to Israel 4 or 5 times, mostly in Tel Aviv though I've traveled up North a few times. I have met some very nice people while there (both Arabic and Jewish). It's a different culture than my own, and yes I can understand if some people interpret their behavior patterns in supermarkets, bus stations, and other public places as being rude. The important point to remember is that it is not intentional; they are just used to pushing and shoving in certain situations; it's not a unique behavior but it can feel unpleasant if you are a tourist and you're trying to get something done (buy tickets for the train, book a hotel room, deal with taxi drivers, etc.)

I heard it said about China, South Korea, and Turkey but also European countries like France and rural Poland. There's no doubt that many Jews - religious or ethnic - are very condescending towards others. They may not realise it all the time, but it plays out in their need to control their surroundings in the hopes of avoiding persecution. This overreach, this OCD also causes resentment, as does the arrogance of many Jews.

Thanks for that comment at the end about Israeli culture. I also believe that any adjectives are not permanent. One person may be having a bad day and react rudely, but that doesn't make the person rude. And this applies to every culture and country in the planet.

"the chosen people" is not about being better than everyone else, it's about being chosen from all the nations to serve God. the origin of "the chosen people" is a few verses in the book of Exodus (19:3-6): "Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.” these verses right there is the reason why Jews never tried to impose their religion on people of other religions. because they were chosen to serve God and others were not. but that doesn't mean that other people cannot join Judaism, anyone can convert to Judaism and be a part of "the Chosen people", it has nothing to do with the race. BTW, I'd rather have a religion that calls its followers "chosen" and doesn't impose itself on others than have a religion that thinks it's right for everyone and therefore feels justified to forcibly converts others, like Christianity and Islam did. and if someone finds himself offended because a text of region he doesn't believe in, says he wasn't chosen - he needs to get checked.

Many people of the Jewish faith/culture have this issue HERE in the US. There is a conditioned mentality of special-ness in Jewish culture. I have so many friends who will be honest and tell you this directly, here in LA. Especially orthodox people. It's sad and gives others a bad name

I was in Israel one year ago right in the middle of stubbing wave.Rudeness? No way! I had excellent service from Jews and Arab and everyone thank us for visiting Israel.Both jews and arabs specially in trade, food service and tourist business could not be more polite and accommodating. A lot of people on street speak good English and very helpful.Israeli are a bit noisy, a lot of them carry guns in open and have this "ready" look but otherwise very friendly people

People who carry guns are usually on military service but off service, they have to carry their weapons where ever they go. Some people carry weapons because they are ready for any danger. We have constant terror attacks here and we are allways preperd for any senario... (when I was a teenager it was bus explotions, than car ranothers, now mainly stabbing events, and of course entering sheltters in case of misilles attack (especially in the south close to Gaza). You can't really explain this survival mode for someone thst comes from outside, this is our reality and it is not simple, that is why we are more though and seems agresive...

I've been to a few countries and the first week, maybe couple of weeks, people usually *seem rude*. Then when you adjust to the *rhythm of life* in a place, people start seeming to be the *most friendly*. I think this is *most true* in ex-Communist countries and Israel, but largely true everywhere. Most Israelis are kind and helpful. If we can really beat religious extremism over the next decade, hopefully the world will be better able to see just how much.

I think if they have travelled, they know well enough that you can meet with higher levels of courtesy in some other places. In my opinion Israelis are a fortress people due to the political situation and this contributes to a tough, terse outward image. A lot of them came from cultures (German, Russian for instance) where people are generally not smiley and tripping over themselves to help you. This doesn't mean cultures like that are necessarily bad, just not immediately endearing to tourists. Then on top of that they are a hurt people, well aware of the Israel bashing that goes on, defensive of their country, not wanting to be vulnerable and lay themselves open to attack. I could imagine that having a holocaust background would have intensified mistrust and wariness of foreigners. Mainly I think it is down to having been a country under attack since its creation which didn't lend itself to acquiring courtly manners. I didn't personally find them rude when I was there for 10 days in the 90s. Maybe it has changed since then.

It's not rudeness - it's stress from living in a country that is constantly under threat, which causes Israelis hardships on many levels: economically, socially, and so on. People are too preoccupied with daily survival to be smooth and polite. HOWEVER - Israelis know they must help each other to survive, and had that tourist fallen into REAL trouble - she would have discovered Israelis to be very caring and helpful. I speak from personal experience.

My personal experience in Israel was awful extremely rude men n women I couldn’t believe even the girls in a gay bar were so rude to me when I ask them if I can take the empty chair next to them. At airport also rude no one even smiles seems like depressed people

Why did God promise Abraham the land of Canaan? Why did he promise him a land that already had plenty of people in it? Why didn't he promise Abraham a place that didn't have so many people in it? Why didn't he make a special uninhabited place for his BFF's people could build a nation? Why did he promise him a land surrounded by powerful empires and much bigger nations who would threaten the Israelites for all of their history? Why does the archeological evidence we have point to the Ancient Israelites being an offshoot of the local Canaanites and why aren't their clear cut signs that the Israelites conquered Canaan through violence? Spent a fair amount of time with Israeli. First I want to say people should be seen as an individual and not as a group. Now, from my experience...if I had to described the majority I encountered... it would be LOUD and ARROGANT. Giving off a sense of entitlement. I had a guesthouse and had many as customers. A small handful were so nice and polite. Others annoyed you to no end with the haggling and neediness. All through the market in this small Indian town, they would be giving shop owners a hard time. In one way they were right because foreigners were always 'over charged' - but man they took it to the next level. Our rooms would sometimes only be selling for 300inr. Rooms were clean, hot water, private baths beautiful view, complimentary chai and room service --- and they would still eat your brain to go lower. I can still hear the sounds of that nasal whining 😣😜

Let's tell it like it is! Jewish people are highly accomplished in so many areas - both intellectually, and professionally. It's not politically correct to say, but Jews register, as an ethnic grouping, as having the highest I.Q. on average, in comparison with others. It is a little known fact that Jews, since the beginning of the 20th century, have won almost 25 percent of Nobel prizes awarded - despite the fact that they represent only one 5th of a percent of the world's population. As I said - they are a highly accomplished people - and it should not surprise us if some rudeness is found in Israeli society. It is no doubt that continuing anti-semitism, into present times, colors the way Israelis feel themselves perceived - and a good amount of their disdain for the nations of the world, is frankly, justified. Many Israelis also feel that the so called "good manners" of some people from other parts of the world, is quite superficial and disingenuous. Israelis have to think of their survival on a daily basis, and the fact that the rest of the world doesn't seem to care about this exemplary people, has jaded them to the rest of the world. Let's leave it there...

I think, speaking in broad generalities, Jewish people tend to be direct, and that can come across as insensitive, hence, rude. I also think Jewish people, in general, are extroverted and expressive, and more than willing to share their opinion with other people. This may come across as rude to some people. Also people who live in crowded and stressful environments often seem rude whereas in reality they are under a lot of pressure, and aren't really rude, just stressed. In America New Yorkers have a reputation as being rude, and in Europe, Parisians have the same reputation. Yet I find that if you are respectful and mindful that they are stressed, Parisians and New Yorkers can be charming and warm.
