my priest just shows up outta nowhere-didn’t call, didn’t knock, just strolls into my yard like he owns the place. He looks at my dog, then at my neighbor’s cat, and goes, “By the power vested in me through the priesthood, I command these two to unite.” I swear to God, I thought he was joking, but he wasn’t. He raises his hands like he’s summoning rain or something, and BOOM-my dog and this cat suddenly start acting... I don’t even know, weird. Like, they were drawn to each other in this unnatural way. I KNOW animals don’t work like that, right? Dogs and cats can’t, y’know, do that. But a few weeks later, the cat straight-up gives birth to this... thing. It had fur like a dog but this weird slinky cat body, and its face? Man, it was like it couldn’t decide which species it wanted to be. It just stared at me, like it was mad I even existed. And then-get this-the priest shows up AGAIN. Just walks right into my yard like he’s on some divine mission. Doesn’t even say hello, just grabs the weird hybrid creature, looks me dead in the eyes, and says, “This is holy work.” And then he just LEAVES. No explanation, no nothing. I didn’t see him for months after that. That whole experience messed me up, man. It’s like I couldn’t trust anything I thought I knew about faith or reality anymore. I started questioning everything, digging deeper into other beliefs. Eventually, it led me out of Christianity altogether. That’s how I found Judaism. It just... made more sense after all the madness. Still don’t know what happened to that hybrid thing, though. Probably better I don’t.

Why would you put yourself greater than God. Those that exalt themselves will be abased. Don't forget why you wear that skull cap, a sign of humility before God. God does not need you otherwise he would not be omnipotent (which he is). God does use, love and care for his creations. God said in the Bible that he didn't need the Jews. If they would not worship him, he would just have the rocks of the earth do it. He doesn't need you, he will use you and care for you and all his creations though. You might see a very beautiful lady on the street, you don’t love her of course, but you need her attractiveness to pleasure your needs. Just like an investor needs people to take care of his investment and those people need the investor to provide them what was promised. It is just like when artists create their art - after the creation there is many people who take care of the art: people who protect copyrights, conservators, agents, other artists reacreating it to keep the memory alive and so on. This is actually a very simple and basic concept of life. Hope this makes sense :)

@peninagreenspan9878
@peninagreenspan9878 Жыл бұрын
He uses the phrase "practicing Christianity " rather than "was a Christian " because according to Jewish law, in the eyes of G-d a Jew remains a Jew even if he "converts". The 613 commandments were not given to prove they can't be kept. They were given with precise instruction and with the promise of reward and punishment. G-d does not lie, nor does he play games. He means what He says. We don't need to be "saved"; we need to live up to our mission in life, which is to seek out G-d in our lives and connect with Him with Him with live and awe by fulfilling His will. For Jews this is the 613 commandments, for non-Jews this is the 7 Noachide Laws. Unlike other religions, Judaism teaches that you have a place in Heaven even if you are not Jewish, as long as you keep the 7 Noachide Laws. Judaism is not for everybody, but G-d's love is there for all who love Him. G-d's "vulnerability" is that He leaves it up to us to excersize our free will (a gift from Him) to decide whether we want to pursue a relationship with Him (which He wants). Certainly G-d showers us with love and compassion all the time, even when in hard times, but it's up to us to recognize it. He wants a connection with us, it's why He made us, but He doesn't force it on us. This chosen vulnerability does not detract one iota from His Supremacy. Only the Almighty Timeless Master of all has the ability to be so vulnerable with the assurance to ultimately have what He seeks.

@peninagreenspan9878 Жыл бұрын
@TheSeptuagint Talmud is the oral part of the Torah. As an emergency measure at the beginning of our current exile, it was written in an abbreviated way, so as to retain it while still requiring the personal, teacher student mode of transmission. Without the Oral Law, the meaning and intent of the Written Law (what Christians call the "Old" Testament) cannot be properly understood. For example, in the Written Law, there is a commandment to use phylacteries, but the Oral Law is where there is a description of what they are.

@@solomonstolberg4383 God is the Creator of all that exists, including animals, plants, fish, etc., but does not NEED them. The word Need, as a verb, means to be in want, or under necessity. King David said that he could give nothing to the Lord that the Lord did not first give him. All things are from Him, for Him and to Him. He is not dependent on mankind, who is frail, impure and fleshly in every manner and can do nothing that God does not permit. He is in control of everything in heaven and earth. He knows what is in man, and had eliminated all mankind by a flood due to their wicked ways, and even repented from creating them. All perished but 8 people and the animals that God selected to live. We can do nothing without the Lord, not even pray. He puts the prayer in our heart to seek Him so that He can give it to us. All things come from Him. He hears the cries of the poor and needy. Those of a contrite heart, He will not deny. He is God and there is no other. Nothing in the heavens or on earth compares to Him. If there is not one person to cry out to Him, He will cause even the rocks to cry out on His behalf.

A relationship with G-d is complex, sometimes distant, sometimes intimately close. It is never, never, "abandoned". He has not "given up" on us, Jews, either. Moshiach is coming to finish the preparation for this world to be perfected for G-d to dwell here with us. Here. Not in heaven.

I'm a Jew who likes your post. In Judaism beliefs don't matter as much as your actions as part of your community. I was raised atheist Jewish. My dad was devout till the Holocaust. He would be 110 if he were alive today. Since some parts of Judaism see history as an expression of G-d's will, a lot of Jews who were adult during WW2 became atheist from that trauma. Ironically my return to Kabbalic beliefs started with participation in Native American ceremonies in my 30s. My atheism began cracking when I became a camping nut in my 20s & I had mystical experiences in nature. My own belief is that if your religion gives you compassion & courage & a sense of responsibility, you please G-d, no matter what religion you believe in.

I am Christian and can only speak from that point-of-view, but to me G-d would not want us to be rude to each other. In the New Text, it says to respect the Jewish people because they are the roots and Christians are the branches. And, that the branches cannot survive without the roots. The Jewish nation was anointed to bring the knowledge of G-d into this world and everyone should respect them for that. Normally I love hearing Rabbi Friedman‘s messages. However, this time I can’t be on board with the idea of “God’s vulnerability” a god whom is vulnerable, must be capable of being flawed. Seeing how God and God alone determines what is good bad flawed or perfect . God in and of himself is quite incapable of being flawed or vulnerable. A God that is flawed is not worth worshiping. Therefore, the God of Abraham can only be an all powerful all-knowing and an invulnerable God. I still love hearing your voice, Rabbi. I hope that I may gain some kind of better understanding as I rediscover my faith.

Because many would consider God’s being both loving and compassionate towards others as vulnerabilities and flaws. Entering into a loving relationship with someone else comes with very real risks. They might turn on you and reject you at any time. You might show compassion, and someone might take advantage of you for doing that. But, the alternative is for God to become a cold, heartless robot to shut out any perceivable vulnerabilities.

a complete nonsense what he said. God needs us? He needs us for what? To lift his throne? To shine his crown? To pull his kingdom carriage? Does this mean when the humanity doesn't exist anymore God will cease to exist? he imagines a God similar to Steve Jobs, he created his mac computer because he needs it, doesn't make any sense just like the Christian concept three in one, go and try to make a sense of it. If God loves us this means he is vulnerable, imagine a vulnerable God? vulnerability is the quality of being easily hurt or attacked. for how long the humanity has bee hostile and transgressed since the existence of the earth. God has a lot of patience and he doesn't get hurt easily otherwise he would have buried alive George Bush, Tony Blair and their clan when they went caused destruction and death in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Lybia...etc Again, this Rabbi is comparing the love of God toward his creation, to the love of humans toward others or objects they create or already created by God, God is self-sufficient, all-knowing, all-hearing and all-powerful therefore he doesn't need us, we need him badly especially these horrible times we live in where the wrong became right and the right became wrong. God loves the one who loves him, he loves the one who wants to sincerely connect with him, who doesn't associate any partner with him, who doesn't abuse his other creation. God loves the one who struggles to perfect his character, the one who serves other creation of god. God knows humanity he created like the back of his hand[metaphorically], he knows who is the sincere and who is the insincere so he won't get shocked when the insincere turns his back on God.

@@HEBREWHAMMMERR Rabboni, I took your words in love. How does one explain when God is described as speaking with Moses and Aaron in Numbers 12? How does one explain The Lord speaking to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend in Exodus 33? What about the story of the Tower of Babel that is found in the book of Genesis in the Torah, specifically in Genesis 11:1-9. According to the story, the people of the earth, who all spoke one language, gathered in the land of Shinar (Babylonia) and decided to build a city with a tower that would reach the heavens. They wanted to make a name for themselves and prevent their dispersal across the earth. Did The Lord come down to see the city and the tower the people were building? In Isaiah 53, who is referred to as the "Suffering Servant"? In Genesis 18, three men (understood to be angels) visit Abraham, and he extends hospitality to them. Similarly, in Genesis 32, Jacob wrestles with a man who is later revealed to be an angel. Were they in human form and were they angels ? Please point me to the Torah version (English but I will learn Hebrew if needed) you want me to read. I would like to learn. Baruch Shalom! With Love and Peace. Sri

At the appointed time, I will return to you, at this time next year and Sarah will have a son."17And the Lord said, "Shall I conceal from Abraham what I am doing?19For I have known him because he commands his sons and his household after him, that they should keep the way of the Lord to perform righteousness and justice, in order that the Lord bring upon Abraham that which He spoke concerning him."20And the Lord said, "Since the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah has become great, and since their sin has become very grave,26And the Lord said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous men within the city, I will forgive the entire place for their sake."32And he said, "Please, let the Lord's wrath not be kindled, and I will speak yet this time, perhaps ten will be found there." And He said, "I will not destroy for the sake of the ten."33And the Lord departed when He finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.” The tanakh is clear, so why isn't it understood as written. I don’t understand why he is saying no one cares if you are perfect. The whole point of the law was to call humanity toward perfection and holiness so that we can be with him once again instead of separated from him by sin. God cares about us being perfected because if we aren’t we can not be with him, we will die in his presence without being purified in perfection, through atonement, through a heart that is for him and his law. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. Isaiah 53 53 Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished. 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. 11 After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

But the ones who do not turn away will be spending eternity worshiping in his presence and loving him because they chose to. Not because they were forced to. Love is not love if you have to be convinced or coerced into it. While I love hearing Rabbi Friedman speak and he has very deep wisdom to impart, if you are posting a video explaining why Jews don't believe in Christianity then this isn't really it. As an ex-Christian myself who came home to Judaism with a great deal of amazing help from Hashem, I can tell you briefly that for any Jew to worship a created human being, including an orthodox Jew of his time born 2000 years ago in Judea who would have kept kosher, Shabbat and the holidays according to both the written and the oral Torah, is idol worship. We are commanded as Jews to worship G-d alone (eg read Isaiah chapters 43 to 45). And G-d is more than capable of forgiving sins directly when people repent, as he did the people of Nineveh in the time of Jonah, no sacrifices necessary. If you are Jewish and considering embracing Christianity, or a truth seeker who wants to understand why Jews do not accept Christianity, check out Jews for Judaism, Rabbi Tovia Singer, Shannon Nuszen, an ex-Christian missionary who set up the organization Beyneynu, or even my own channel. Or all of these if you have time.

Why are you telling this rabbi, born into Judaism, a kohen, that he doesn't know why Jews aren't christians? Your perspective is not invalid though it's hardly universal. Advocating Singer is predictable since he caters more towards christians than towards Jews. Rabbi Friedman shares knowledge with us that is useful and even important for non-Jews. Sometimes directed to them specifically like when he talks to visiting groups that he shares. Also for the edification of Jews. Not all of us are scholars. He is a rabbi, after all.

@@anti_missionary_mission being a Jew is 'exclusive', like it or not. It's not a "club" to join or to "think" they're part of, as people see fit. Being a Jew isn't part of the "make everyone feel good by being "inclusive" nonsense". There are requirements of us that we take seriously. It's not up to you to trivialize it either. It's a relationship with G-d that He designated as such. Argue with Him if you're unhappy with that reality.

I converted to Judaism over 20 years ago. I was told by a Chabad Rabbi in Jacksonville Fl that because I converted as a conservative Jew I wasn't really a Jew.I told him that he does not define my Jewishness my heart for Hashem. Thats why I chose Yeshayahu as my Jewish name upon my conversion. I am the only one in my family that is Jewish.

God's love for us must not be misinterpreted as His vulnerability. I love my children very much and I always want them to be safe and successful. Most of the times they do not want to do things that will make them good persons in their lives because they don't understand the life since they haven't experienced it. So, I had to tell them things with good degree of sternness. All because of my profound love for them. God also loves us and want us to LIVE.

In your life, what is more important, more meaningful; what you want, or what you need? If your house was on fire and you could grab only one thing as you rushed out, would it be what you want, or what you need? If your spouse wants you, you can wonder why, and for how long, but if your spouse needs you, then your spouse recognizes and acknowledges that the two of you are really inseparable. We are not just wanted yet unnecessary playthings for G-d; we are a vital component of what He created this world to achieve. He created us because to fullfill His plan He needs us to perform that function. You can walk somewhere or you can drive your car. If its closeby and you can walk, your motor is unimportant. But if you choose a distant location to drive, you NEED the motor. Vulnerability is a strength, not a flaw. The 613 commandments were not given to prove they can't be kept. They were given with precise instruction and with the promise of reward and punishment. G-d does not lie, nor does he play games. He means what He says. We don't need to be "saved"; we need to live up to our mission in life, which is to seek out G-d in our lives and connect with Him with Him with love and awe by fulfilling His will. For Jews this is the 613 commandments, for non-Jews this is the 7 Noachide Laws. Unlike other religions, Judaism teaches that you have a place in Heaven even if you are not Jewish, as long as you keep the 7 Noachide Laws. (If you are born to a Jewish mother, according to the Torah you remain a Jew, even if you convert.) Judaism is not for everybody, but G-d's love is there for all who love Him. G-d has no need to incarnate Himself to suffer for us. He already suffers with us because He is always with us, we are a part of Him.

God doesn’t NEED us. He WANTS us. His love is not like human love, His love is PERFECT, COMPLETE and WHOLE. He can ‘feel’ vulnerability without literally being vulnerable. Remember he made us in his image. He gave us feelings. They are useful, but should not be blindly ‘followed’ as he warns us plenty. If we experience the “feeling” of vulnerability as images of Him, then He clearly experiences vulnerability Himself, yes? We are human, sinful and fallen, but He is whole and perfect and complete. His vulnerability is not the same.

Sir, what you're saying about love and vulnerability is absolutely convincing and I appreciate it. These are absolute truths that are true, I agree fully, to ALL relationships. That said, though I would not even think of trying to convert you, or any Jewish rabbi, whose lectures I enjoy, to Christianity, I still would like to add that this does not hold as an argument against Christianity. This concerns the Trinity, that may be understood, experienced or not. But those who have experienced -, reflected it in light of personal experience know that the Trinity is Unity, that is One and NOT three,- but Three IN One. That much a statement I felt your lecture was sure worth, Rabbi Friedman, no offense meant, in respect and appreciation of a statement that moved me deeply.

The rabbi isn't offering an 'argument against christianity'. He offered a few reasons. That's it. Never is enough though is it, respectful as you're trying to be? There has to be a back and forth for hours, days, years, centuries, yet you still won't "get it". We have to get it all "right" and convince you which isn't going to happen. We don't believe as you do. We won't ever. We also don't have to justify our beliefs. Nor explain them. It is the Torah. Who'd give up all that beauty and content for less? Not us.

According to the scripture the have no arguments or excuses. ✝ Romans 1:19 "because that which is known of God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them." ✝ Romans 1:20 "For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuses In other words there's no logical or scientific reason to reject YHWH. They do it because they don't want to be told what to do. If there's a God he's the Creator in order to be GOD he at the very least has to know more than anyone else and be more powerful than anyone or anything else. To tic off another box he is also everywhere. He's before between and at the end of time. If he made everything that means it's his and he gets to make the rules. It was said by a famous atheist once said eather there's a GOD or there isn't and both possibilities are equally frightening.
