This was a very moving testimony. Her insight is remarkable. She is a survivor. Her childhood was stolen from her. So very sad but she has turned her suffering into aiding so many others. The people in Belgium who cared for her and her brother are to be honored.

Absolutely wonderful interview. All the various experiences weave together to make such an incredible tapestry of those times and events. So glad she opened up so honestly about not only her hiistory but her inner feelings even short comings and lacks she experienced due to her years in Belgium. Thank you so much ! Thank you also for admitting the difficulties you faced, relationships that you felt were damaged and maybe never really repaired while at the same time showing us that life can indeed be rebuilt , if not in the way we would like, it can still be a wonderful outcome even in the face of the ups and downs you must encounter to get there ! Thank you !

I had commented BEFORE her husband spoke at the end. What an amazingly modest woman of gigantic achievement Hilde is , Thank you Hilde for not letting your past destroy you but rather allow it to shape you for the greatness you have produced for so many others . Thank you

An amazing, beautifully spoken testimony of endurance and courage. Such an inspiration for others. Sad! But beautifully weaved together, as she explained, in such details, on what these families endured. Her husband, really summed up her life accomplishments, so beautifully! Amazing testimony. Thank you for sharing. Remarkable life accomplishments.

Wow the audio is really really bad, I could barely hear this woman. Wonderful that she survived. Thank you for sharing your testimony. Jodie Molody, you do not understand that the world went crazy during WWII, she had no choice but to leave her brother, don't judge until you walk a mile in someone else's shoes. My father was with the Canadians who liberated one of the camps, but Canada's shame is we wouldn't take the Jews, we all know how low our quoto was.

This was a very thoughtful interview with many details and feelings she had. It was a different kind of testimony. It was well worth listening to, but it took some patience. Because the Survivor really thought about what she was saying. But it felt like a very natural process. It turned out to be very informative and heart felt. Perhaps one of the best testimonies recorded!

I watched many holocaust survivor stories .by far this is the saddest .she doesn't seem happy .I hope she is .comparing with the other survivor she is the luckiest .but she seemed the most affected by her childhood .she accomplished many things .nobody died from her immediate family .others they are happy they survived ,have a new life and family .I didn't mean that it is to grew up in orphanage .it is sad .I admire her mom.separated from her children ,but she made it .brave woman

She possesses the ability to introspect in a very intelligent way. Her insight is acute. Rare quality that unfortunately is not that common. And it was clearly painful.

She's in a lot of pain. I can imagine it wasn't very easy for her mother, having just survived the camps, dealing with a child who was probably clinically depressed.

I have watched many of these and this lady seems to still carry a lot of anger and hate. Very understandable, however, it's interesting that she was extremely lucky considering the circumstances. Very interesting to see how people process emotions/experiences.

I really like her honesty with her life and how she felt. She also was right about Roosevelt saying he didn’t know. Of course, he knew Karski actually tried to get a visit with him with all the documents about the camps, and he still didn’t believe him, or if he did, did not pay attention. Unbelievable.

wow - this has been a very emotional & sad to hear of the childhood of Mrs. Scheraga. worse that she received no love from her parents after the war as her mother had such a horrible time in the camps. who could blame her. lucky to have found love a 2nd time. and her husband speaks so eloquently about Hilde s work and observation. how lucky she was to find love again. but soooo sad that Hilde died so young. May her memory be a blessing .

What an incredible story. Hilde and her brother were saved by the Nazis by Belgian orphanages. As children, had they been deported with their mother, especially her brother being handicapped, they wouldn't have survived. Coming back to her children is likely all that kept their mother alive in the camp so long. God bless them.

I think you must be like your father .. you seem like a very quiet person.. I think your feelings are hard for you to deal with even today..how brave your mother had to be .. to part with her children and being left by your father.. she had to be strong and any demands she deserved! My lord if you hadn’t bonded with your mother by age 7 and she suffered what she did .. I don’t think you are very loving or forgiving .. I’m sorry for your life being hard but lord it was better than so many other Jewish children..

It both saddens and sickens me to hear her talk about leaving her mentally challenged brother in Belgium for his entire life and being happy how Belgian taxpayers have paid for his care all his life. Hilde however, moved on to the US to enjoy a very comfortable life here. The meaning of family always changes when money is involved.

Jozie, it sounds like he was taken care of with love and care. That sounds to me like It was the best place for him. He has been there for quite a while and is settled. To change where he is cared for and settled could have made him worse Also when the organisation was offered money, they refused. It also seems that the Belgium government has been willingly paying for that facility for a long time. I'm glad I'm not you.

Put the focus on what they didn’t have, like a Home in Germany where they took residence centuries ago . They had to leave their home an country and you’re talking about money. The reason she emphasized that was, that healthcare isn’t for free in the US , but it is everywhere here in the European Union 🇪🇺.
