This is what’s called rebranding - “it’s not a religion, it’s a relationship” is the Christian equivalent of “it’s not a cookie, it’s fruit and cake.” The whole rebranding campaign was developed to compensate for the fact that we are living in a society that’s becoming increasingly secular as time goes by and religion becomes less and less relevant: they want to shed the negative imagery or religion that exists in the minds of many without changing their substance.

After a decade of imploring God for any sign, no matter small, that he was with me, it was especially galling to see pastors and other Christians casually talking about how God had spoken to them that morning, or how he had answered their prayer about some silly little trivial matter in their otherwise comfortable lives -- like their stalling car starting at the first attempt after praying. There are Christians who even relate the "conversations" they have with God on a daily basis. Do they never think of the millions of people who suffer incredible hardships and suffering without ever having a sniff of assistance or comfort despite their desperate prayers and pleas for help? Of course they don't, because it would burst the tiny little bubble they live in.

I brought this up at Bible Study where we were focusing on prayer. The answer I got in regards to finding lost car keys or a parking place was that maybe God answered this prayer because it wasn't trivial, that maybe the person looking for their car keys had some real important place they had to go. One person even said, well, I know this is probably going to come out badly, but maybe the people in other countries who don't have it as good as we do are so used to going without that it really isn't as big a deal to them as it would be for us. So God may be answering their prayers differently than how we would answer them. No, that didn't really come out well . . .

@racerx4152 12 сағат бұрын
so you think that god should never punish sin? that he should just let everything go to hell? look at how much this world has gone to hell, and that's because they ignore god. by destroying wicked people, god incentivise's the rest of us to stop being evil. non christian authorities do this all the time. are they cruel? human beings are never satisfied with the way god does things, and their not happy with the way secular authorities do things. that's why we have prisons. this proves that people are evil. christianity is not a delusion, you just love your sin too much too repent. there's tons of evidence for christianity. read " evidense that demands a verdict" josh mcdowell, and books by lee strobel.

There are 100s KZbin apologetic channels for every single religion and cult under the sun. Every single one of them declares that their faith, and theirs alone, are a relationship and not a religion. Yet, when you get into the faith, all these rules show up . The God or Gods that you have this "relationship" with is suddenly interested in what I wear, what I eat, what I think, what I do, and who I sleep with. No religion is a relationship. It is all about controlling behavior.

Thank you once again for the video. The section around 14:00 - 16:00 about how it difficult it is to have a healthy relationship with God when there is silence all around is exactly what happened to me. I prayed and prayed to God when I was a Christian, yet it felt like talking to a brick wall. The response from other Christians about needing faith and time. Well, after 30 plus years of waiting, I realized that it is better to just give up and that maybe there is no God that will answer your prayers or is listening to what you say to Him in quiet time. And yes, Christianity is a toxic religion and relationship.

Let's assume you life in a kingdom. Your king is your king who in a way takes care of his kingdom, as your live in that kingdom of course the king 🤴 indirectly takes care of you too. But he's nevertheless the King and not your best friend. Do you have the right to personally talk to your King because he's your king? Can you stand at his gate and demand the king come down to talk to you? Expecting such a relationship from your King truly tells more about you then of the king. Doesn't it? If you then walk around town slandering the king because he didn't come to talk to you calling him abusive and the king nevertheless leaves you to do so that tells alot about both you and the king too.

@platzhirsch4275
@platzhirsch4275 14 сағат бұрын
@@Kelley_X the analogy was held simple for you to understand. I could use another analogy, but first these two points: 1. God doesn't demand you worship him and praise him to go to "heaven". That's not the idea of what life on earth is about. You're life on earth is solemnly about YOU! God made you and gave you all your talents and gifts to use them however you please. He loves you to use those talents as you please and Rejoice in it. The praise to God comes when understanding that naturally to many, but unfortunately not to all- like you. You received your life and gifts and think therefore God owes you the right to be constantly there for you on a direkt personal level. You have a problem and pray and expect God to immediately interact with you and if he "doesn't" you turn your back and post slanderous videos full of abuse and belittlement and at the same time, despite your felt entitlement towards God, you call him abusive towards you. So let me tell you a story: There was once was a young couple that loved themselves dearly, war broke out and the husband had to go to war. The couple kissed and hugged at the train station and the woman vowed to love him forever. The husband went to war always carried the picture of his beloved bride in hid breast pocket, kissing it every day. The woman wrote many letters ✉️ to him, but couldn't call him of course. He got many letters from her and send many flowers to drop in front of her front door to show his love. One day after some years the husband got a leave on short notice and came home 🏡 . The woman had thrown all his belongings in the trash, thrown their marriage ring away, burnt their pictures, removed his name from the front door and was using social media to slander him badly what a wicked and abusive man he was. He found her with another man. On seing her husband she was shocked but accused him it was his fault that she did all that as he never answered any letters all those years. The husband looked at her in tears saying: those flowers 💐 in front of the door 3x week where from me, your favourite song I got your radio station to play every Saturday was from me, the coffee that was left every Sunday with your favourite marmalade and toast every Sunday morning was from me. Truly you are this woman and Christ shall likewise return. He loves you too. Think again weather your behavior is appropriate. ❤

I remember being forced/guilted into going to church by my grandma on my moms side. Sitting there and hearing how I was nothing but dirty rags and the lowest of the low was hard. And just how the preacher said it, and how people agreed....and then they said the only way to be worthy was to let Jesus into our hearts, and it meant letting him control our lives. I just couldn't do it, I tried, but even as a little kid, I had terrible anxiety, and I felt worse for not allowing him his way. So I just resigned myself to never actually being saved. It also made me put up with a lot of bullying at school because it just felt like reinforcement that I was a terrible person and deserved it. I still struggle with negative self talk but im trying to get past it and deconstruct as best I can.

Yes, this is one of the things that Christianity-- even the secular versions of it we encounter in our schools, laws, businesses, and social mores--programs us with: we're unworthy to be alive. Heck of a thing for a god to say, but then, Yahweh was originally a god of war, so maybe that's why we get this message of annihilation. (Yahweh was one of about 80 Canaanite gods. They allowed their gods to have a lot more qualities than constant warfare.)

Self esteem is hard to find once it's damaged. My situation was very different (autistic person surrounded by well meaning non-autistic people, rather than an abusive religion), but deconstructing my own negative self talk has led to a sort of defiant insistence on my own self worth. Others make demands without realising what obeying would cost most of the time. And if someone believes you're inherently worthless, they don't deserve your respect or any more attention than it takes to protect yourself from them.

Some Christian’s are so legalistic, pious and religious in their walk with Christ that they don’t know how to show compassion or understanding towards others who may not share their same beliefs. I’m a Christian and just want to let you know your questions are valid, even in the Bible people questioned God. Habbauk is such an underrated book in the Bible because he asked tough, unconventional questions that a lot of unbelievers asked yet some Christian’s are so pious and uneducated in scripture that they bash people for having those questions instead of trying to understand and show grace. I hope you can understand that all Christian’s aren’t judgmental and ignorant. Hope you don’t see us all that way. Aagin your questions are valid! God bless you!💖

"When a 'Relationship with God' Turns Unhealthy"--A relationship with god IS unhealthy. I know because I was there for 18 years. Kristi, regarding your comments beginning at 14:08 that you continually prayed to god for him to reveal to you what he wanted you to do, that was the final experience that broke me of christianity. Besides doing all the other things believers do, seemingly with no results whatsoever except confusion and emotional pain, I constantly prayed to god for years for him to tell me or reveal to me what he wanted me to do with my life for his glory, how I should serve him, how I should witness, what career he wanted me to pursue, and I prayed for the well-being of others. I NEVER prayed for any earthly or material thing for myself. I got nothing but silence--or, as you put it, crickets. Long after my de-conversion, a believer confronted me about my unbelief. I made the general statement to him that god never answered any of my prayers. Without enquiring of me in the least what I prayed for, he launched on a lengthy lecture about how I prayed for selfish, worldly things, and that if, instead, I would only pray for god's guidance as to how I should serve him, he WOULD answer my prayers!

Nah, you've got it wrong. They wouldn't say, "Ah well, that's too bad" They would be cheering for it, and might inspire others to join in. Remember, God in their eyes is the ultimate incarnation of good. He is righteousness and justice and goodness itself. So if he ever did indeed do that to a child, it would be seen as an ultimate act of good. Who cares what the child thinks, God is doing it, therefore, it is good. Honestly, with all the times God committed genocide and other such atrocities in the Bible, it's a wonder why most people who follow the Bible don't get in on the action nowadays.

One thing you didn't mention that I see among devout Christians I know is an attitude that Christians are to be dependent on God at all times. What kind of father wants his children to remain dependent on him throughout their lives? A bad one! I think the better analogy is probably the shepherd/sheep relationship, but in these modern times, admitting that you are a like a sheep is not a very good look.

The main point of my atheism is that either god is an uncaring bastard or that there is no god. It's less frightening and hurtful to believe there is no god rather than believing in the god of the bible. That's the emotional side. Rationally, I agree with Aron Ra that there's no evidence and therefore god is not true.

That particular god is self contradictory. You can’t be both petty and perfect. It’s ridiculous. Give him some of humanity’s worst traits and pretend he’s perfect? It’s like walking into your teenager’s room and finding him threatening to burn his ant colony because the little bastards won’t worship him. Their god needs a celestial therapist, not worship.

The main point of atheism is that there is no god. If you think that god is uncaring, that's not atheism. But I think a lot of people out there do believe there's an uncaring god out there by their constant badmouthing of him. I would imagine a lot of people who believe he never existed probably would dedicate as little attention to him as possible since it would be a waste of precious limited time.

@theboombody One can talk about a fictional character's attributes while not believing the character exists in reality. The reason you don't hear people "bad mouthing" characters from other stories is likely because people aren't using those characters to justify harmful worldviews. Lets use an example to expose the fault in your logic... If people didn't believe Darth Vader existed, then they wouldn't talk about him in popular culture all the time! A well reasoned person should be able to differentiate between internal critiques of a worldview and rebellion against a real world threat. The interesting thing is, both of these things likely drive the motives of people like Kristi, but not in the way you are implying. Ideas can be dangerous once people manifest them as a real life entity, but the idea itself is not real. Only the manifestation is real. Without the manifestation of the God character through the ideology of people who proclaim the idea as truth outside of manifestation alone, there would be no need to talk about it. Manifestation (how I am using it): The phenomena attributed to an idea when it can be observed through actions of individuals. (Example: Love is manifested when a husband listens to and values the feelings of his wife) "If God didn't exist, it would be necessary to invent him." - Voltaire

I have a relationship with my wife. If I'm away, I can call her and have a 2 way conversation with her and she can tall me things I need to know that she does, like what is on the store list that I should buy, or did I lock the cat in the bedroom where there is no litter box. Christians don't have that with Jesus. They get warm and fuzzy feeling that Jesus hears them, but that is a feature of Mormonism, and they don't think Mormonism is true. Christians never get any useful information the they don't know, but God would, like what is the street address of the nearest person being held prisoner in a basement as a sex slave. God would know that, but they never get that information from God.

God testing people feels so unnecessary when he supposedly knows everything past, present and future. He should already know what anyone is or was going to do. When a person has an addiction, it warps their self view and their view of everyone they are in relationships with -- because their relationship is actually with the addiction. An alcoholic can't have relationships with other people because their primary relationship is with alcohol. Same for drugs, sex, gambling -- and religion. When Christians are addicted to their version of God, Jesus, holy trinity, whatever -- that can be their only relationship. Everyone else is secondary. The religion doesn't give them love back -- just like the money, sex and alcohol. It's an empty relationship since it's not based in reality. It's very sad. Thank you for what you do. Also, if not believing in Christianity makes us warped or un-loving, you certainly are a direct answer to that argument - you look radiant in your confidence and your self.

During my church "daze" I always thought the relationship with God was one sided..... I was forced to believe in this crap, until my parents just ultimately gave up on me. There was that one time I thought God had talked to me, but it wound up being indigestion. Christianity is based off circular logic, and it drove Christians crazy when I would tell them that. I was brought up a southern Baptist, but as soon as I developed logical reasoning, I called hogwash on the whole idea. I've had a long history with dealing with the church and a lot of it could be written as a comedy because I refused to bow down to anyone or anything. I'm not trying to sound tough by any means and I've suffered a great deal in the process, the constant wars of religion between me and my dad, and the refusal to be tossed into a Baptist group home which is a great story for another day. My parents throwing out everything I owned musically, cds, cassettes, showing my age here, and posters, not to mention all the horror books I had bought. In the south during the early 90s we were still dealing with the side effects of the satanic panic from the 80s, especially in the Baptist churches. Everyday I was getting into trouble about the music I was listening to. Despite it all, I got the last laugh, every time I pick up the guitar, I'm playing music that I was previously barred from listening to. Christianity has been a thorn on my rear since I was 14, and being old at 44, I don't think I'll ever get out from that shadow. At least now I'm not chained to a set of beliefs and or threats, and I live freely as I would like, not dependent on some invisible being waiting to strike me down with a lightning bolt. Sorry for the long winded comment, I've got a long, sordid history with these darn Baptists and I fully support what you are doing.

@@josephaltman460 I never really followed Manson, or NIN. In the mid 90s I became annoyed with the fan base of Marilyn Manson. A lot of Mansons fans were obnoxious back in those days. Music is subjective, though, one mans trash is another mans treasure. I hated Pink Floyd in my early teenage youth, and as I got older, they became one of my all time favorites. The church I had went to frowned on all secular music so it didn't really matter who or what was playing. If you weren't listening to the Gaithers or Ray Boltz, then you were probably considered an outsider, which is what I became since the youth minister felt I wasn't fit for what they had going on at the time. I figured if I was going to hell, then at least I'll enjoy the music I wanted to hear, and not some crap being pushed onto me by some know it all preacher.

Finally got a chance to see the whole video. Honestly, breaking it down into those 3 categories of relationships goes a long way to explain how the relationship is unhealthy in every way from a creator being that states he loves you. During my last few months of identifying as a Xristian, it finally dawned on me that I was talking to myself. Listening to my own inner voice. And just like Kristi stated, randomly opening my bible to get a word from the lord. Only to find that what I turned to was no where near what I needed. Making excuses for the lack of real answers.. blaming myself for not fasting long enough or some lack in my prayer life. All B.S., just glad I was able to see the inculcated mythology was in fact just a story from bronze age ppl with limited understanding (not due to their own fault)... it just should not be used as something speaking to ppl today for answers to life's deepest questions. ~ As always, great presentation easy to understand breakdown 👍👍

There was a movie in 1999 called Dogma, where George Carlin played a Catholic Cardinal that was making waves rebranding his church with "Buddy Christ" as part of the "Catholicism, Wow!" campaign. I grew up as a Catholic in the 70s and there was not even a hint of Jesus being your buddy, or your relationship with God. It was clear we were all lesser beings that needed to be in awe, respect, and afraid of what God would do if we were not good. The church didn't shy away from the flood or smiting or turning people to salt just because they looked back. You did what you were told and you didn't ask questions. So, it's pretty interesting hearing the modern Christians ask about someone's walk with god, or singing love songs to Jesus in church. No wonder having real relationships with other humans seems so hard when 60-70% of the people around you view god as the ideal parent and think they have an amazing relationship with someone they can't see, touch, or even actually get a real reply from.

The teachings of Jesus Christ about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" written in Luke 4: 43 and John 11: 25, 26 are the guarantee that all the loving, kind, respectful, and submissive Worshippers of the Creator who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, Ruth, Naomi, King David, Jesus Christ's Followers and disciples, and many others will all be RESURRECTED back to life in the right and proper time so they can happily and peacefully live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects and citizens of the "KINGDOM of GOD" and fully enjoy the eternal love, kindness, goodness, compassions, generosities, favors, and blessings of the Creator and his Christ for eternity under the loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection of Jesus Christ as the Creator's Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth as written in Revelation 11: 15.

Kristi, you have been learning about God for a long time. I can understand how much God has disillusioned you. Am agnostic. Good work, Kristi. Good luck.

I remember my uni christian group put on a talk called "God hates religion" I went up to the pastor and said "before we go in, I looked the word religion up in the dictionary, and it refers to belief in the supernatural or god." Naturally, he went on to preach about how god wants a relationship, not rules. Suffice to say, my respect for him plummeted
